Mets Trade: Walker for Niese

Post#1 » by Jeffrey » Thu Dec 10, 2015 2:03 am

Mets traded Jonathan Niese for Neil Walker

Less than a day after missing out on their top free-agent target, Ben Zobrist, the Mets swung a deal to fill their second-base void, trading left-hander Jon Niese to the Pirates in exchange for Neil Walker.

Niese's and Walker's salary is pretty much a wash. The Mets have yet to add additional salary on their payroll. It's a good trade, I believe if we give him the QO next offseason, we get a pick back as well. Let's hope he does well.

Good trade, but I still think we're all waiting for something more "splashy". Still need a big hitter. I'd prefer that we bring back Colon. At this point, he is the perfect long-reliever for 6th and 7th inning setup work. I don't mind bringing Clippard back, either, but I think they're gonna roll with Reed in the 8th inning spot. Hard to say. Pitching isn't a problem. I'm worried about history ... the Mets have never made the playoffs in back to back seasons, ever, I don't think. But with this pitching, we should reverse that.

Agree. I want Clippard back as well. Would love to have a dominant 7-8-9 guy throughout the year.

Would love to see Colon, Montero, and Verrett fight for the 5th spot until Wheeler comes back.

I don't think we will see a splashy signing. Unless it's Heyward and trading Lagaras. Other than that, it is about filling holes.

For the love of god, WHY are the Wilpon's so cheap??? This drives me nuts. Is it the Madoff fallout, or just the way it's always been? Been a Mets fan for 30 years, but I don't live in New York, so I'm not quite privy to all of the inner dealings with them. It just seems like they don't ever want to spend any real money.

Also signed Cabrera so they're solid up the middle. Need a good right handed bat.
Let Clippard go. He was painful!
Their bullpen will be fine with Familia, Mejia, Robles, and Reed. Need a lefty reliever. Blevins?
To me a big righty bat is most important like Cespedes but looks unlikely.
