Should the Heat trade for Carmelo?

Post#1 » by lowermerionfilms » Fri Dec 11, 2015 12:40 am

As the Knicks continue to lose and their hopes of the playoffs shrink, I expect they'll start to consider trading Melo. It seems to me the best offer in the league can be made by the Heat (Winslow, Deng, Andersen, Haslem & one or two 1st Round picks). Losing Winslow is tough but Melo instantly makes the Heat a threat for the title. Thoughts?

Melo had been absolutely terrible this season. In the last 10 games he is averaging 17.9pts 6.4rebs 2.9asts on 39FG% absolutely awful.

Now will he improve? Maybe, but will he ever return to the 28pts 8rebs guy he was at 29? Doubtful.

On top of that we've played the Knicks twice, once with Deng and once without him. Did Melo look good to you in those games? Because to me he looked like a complete non factor and in our second meeting he allowed himself to be outplayed by Gerald Green.

Now maybe Melo can bounce back and be a useful player when surrounded by a better supporting cast. He's a great 3pt shooter and he can play the PF position but honestly he's turning 32 and he has $100mill remaining on his deal. I'm not sure that I want to take that on.

Especially with a player whose been struggling after coming back from knee surgery.

I actually have it on good source that We are trying to do just that. But Phil wants Whiteside included. And Riley isn't having it. Talks ended supposively. But I think this gets done without Whiteside.

Melo is on a severe decline. But I'm ok with it. While Justise is a good defender he looks like he will never project to be a superstar or even a star. Deng is a bad fit here too.

If Phil agrees to no Whiteside we might see Melo here pretty soon actually.

We are in good position because Melo has a no trade clause. He would only waive it to come here, clipps, cavs. No one else has any shot at it.

I can't believe I was for this trade some months ago. Now that I see our problems, I don't think melo would fix that. We will be the new Brooklyn nets. Cap hell with a bunch of aging stars. Guaranteed.

If we traded for Melo and Whiteside stays, he would never get the ball. May as well trade him if we are getting Chucky Anthony.

The only way it works financially for resigning Whiteside is if Dragic goes out. Not the best idea (unless we can get a PG in the deal as well), but it at least preserves another $15m cap space over the deal proposed.

Yes I'd trade as long as we keep Whiteside. I'd like to keep Winslow too but it's not a deal breaker. Better a guarantee of memo now than maybe strike out on KD later.

I think Melo will heat up towards the end of season and maaaaybe even be a threat to the scoring title. That being said, I wouldn't want to trade for him, especially if it means handing over Winslow AND Whiteside, not to mention any picks (hell, do we even have any to trade??). Furthermore, he's getting older and his contract isn't really something we want right now.
