On/off is +/-. Where do you think the + and the - come from?
No +/- is a player's total point differential on the floor. On/off is how the team performs with a player
on the court compared to how they perform with him
off the court.
Just checked and Marcus is 10th in +/-:
1 Stephen Curry GS 372
2 Draymond Green GS 354
3 Andre Iguodala GS 259
4 Klay Thompson GS 250
5 Russell Westbrook OKC 211
6 Kawhi Leonard SA 209
7 Tim Duncan SA 197
8 LeBron James CLE 190
9 Harrison Barnes GS 182
10 Marcus Morris DET 172
Wrong. Those are the Oncourt numbers only. The name +/- would make zero sense if what you are saying is correct. Where would the "-" part of the equation come in?
http://www.sportingcharts.com/dictionary/nba/basketball-plus-minus.aspxIt is confusing though since various sites routinely use +/- incorrectly. Sportingcharts manages to give two different definitions on the same site.
It has the name +/- because they took it from hockey. Sure that's maybe what the definition is supposed to be but its never used that way. The +/- on the NBA site is a players point differential per game, the +/- on the site that gave you that definition is the total point differential and anywhere you go for +/- numbers (let's say 82 games) will have point differential on the floor listed. Search on/off and you get on and off the court comparisons.
So yeah maybe the definition of +/- is supposed to be the same as on/off but they aren't the same thing and when you cite +/- its automatically assumed you're referring to the number everyone else calls +/- and not on/off.
Still Marcus has been impressive. Along with KCP and Dre they are playing great defense.
