The only reason MKG was ever even arguably a liability (statistics don't really back up that claim) is because we ran a super predictable offensive system based around everyone watching a guy who refused to pass do post isos. MKG was an easy person to double off when wed force feed Al because he didnt have a ton of range and Al doesn't pass out of double teams anyways.
Teams aren't going to be able to just ignore MKG now that we play with all this movement and we literally have deep threats at every single position now. MKG will get plenty of minutes in lineups where he is the only guy who is a below average 3 point threat and it is not a liability at all to have one guy who isn't a deep threat on the court.
I honestly think it is more likely that he will make our offense better due to his slashing ability, improving range, offensive rebounding, and overall energy. If MKG was really going to be a liability the way some people think we would be seeing this same effect with PJ, who is worse in basically every way and air balls half of his wide open 3's. Stan Van Gundy is an idiot.
Van Gundy was a successful NBA coach. What makes you smarter than a successful NBA coach? And he's quoting multiple executives and coaches around the league. It's no secret MKG is a big zero on offense. Please.
The NBA isnt exactly a meritocracy and Van Gundy is nothing but a talking head at this point. Id be curious to know how many of our games hes actually watched over the last couple seasons and who these execs are that he is apparently quoting. Some statistics to back up his claim would be nice.
