Well, not only would it give Denver salary relief, as Johnson is an expiring contract, it really would help DEN get passed by BKN in the standings, helping the likelyhood of a top 3 pick. They could also add some value like RHJ or Chris McCullough to add to our rebuild. Very unlikely but not out of the question. ......................................................................................

Yes, 100% out of the question. The Nuggets aren't giving away net positive assets to jump one spot in the lottery and be couple percentage points more likely to get the top pick.

If they trade Gallinari it would be to a team like the Celtics for Lee and a first. Similar with Faried.

Surely you can't be so naive to think that BOS is the only game in town ? If TOR was added to acquire Faried that could change the dynamics significantly. As I did pointed out, certainly unlikely but NOT as implausible as you may believe. It would almost behoove the C's to step up and try to acquire a talent like Gallo diminish that possibility, but I doubt DEN would have any interest for Lee and either the BOS or DAL pick, which is what I'm sure you meant (but something could be worked out).

I said a team like the Celtics.

The point is if they were looking to move Gallo they could get salary relief AND assets. The Nets don't have many assets to include in a deal like that.

It is not improbable or plausible or any other indefinite term implying there is a chance. Denver isn't giving away Faried and Gallo for Johnson just for the salary relief. Too many teams would be willing to give up assets to do something like that.

Looking a bit closer at the Nets, they've actually beaten three teams with a .500 or better record.
They've beaten us once, the Hawks once, and Detroit once.
Only .500+ teams they've beaten out of 23 games lol.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

Boston: 11th hardest.
Minnesota: 8th easiest.
Brooklyn: tied for 4th hardest. (But New Orleans has had the hardest in the league.)

The SOS rankings are very volatile. Brooklyn's SOS was actually very light early in the season as SAS lost their opener, Memphis started out terrible and Milwaukee and Houston we near bottom of the league bad in SRS. As those teams have improved, Brooklyn's SOS has retroactively gotten tougher.

Man, Pelicans made a ton of awful decisions since the moment they drafted Davis (drafting Rivers, matching Gordon offer, trading for Ašik, re-signing Ašik) and now it could turn into opportunity for another franchise altering star, whether it's drafting him or trading the high pick for somebody like Marc Gasol. Borderline disgusting.

They need to clean house in that front office. They could have their pick of top-notch GM/coaching talent. High draft pick, Anthony Davis locked up long-term, some cap space. Might be a good destination for Thibs.

Teams expected to have records 2-5 from the bottom and tiebreakers.

Lakers
Pelicans
Nuggets
Nets

Nuggets-Lakers 1-0
Nuggets-Pelicans 1-0
Nets-Lakers 0-1

I hope the Lakers wins some games, especially their home game vs the Nets and wins the season series. And that they finish with the 4th worst record, hoping they can win a few more games, I hope they lose their pick but doesn't look like it atm. I would hate if the Sixers won the lottery AND got the Lakers pick 4-14. They will have Saric, 2 top 5 picks, Embiid, Noel, Okafor!

Hoping the Nets wins the lottery, I expect the Lakers to get the 2nd worst record, Toss up between Pelicans and Nets for 3rd worst, Nuggets with 5th worst. I don't think the Knicks , Bucks and Wizards makes the playoffs in the east.

Ultimately I hope this is what happens in the draft process.

Lakers finishes with the 2nd worst record, Pelicans jumps to 2nd, bumping the Lakers to 4th (to PHI) and Nets (4th) wins the lottery bumping the Sixers to 3rd.

1st pick (Celtics)
2nd (Pelicans)
3rd (Sixers)
4th (Sixers)
5th (Nuggets)

I hate if the Sixers becomes a powerhouse in the atlantic and the east, but if we get Ben Simmons we're good, if we also strike gold in free agency next year, plus make a blockbuster trade. Maybe getting lucky with the Mavs and Twolves picks turning into lottery picks, then it looks good for us.

I really like this Orlando team.

Not for giving it to the nets but they are a fun team to watch

Yeah, I really enjoy watching them. Particularly Vuc and Dipo (when he's playing well). Wish Hezonja would get some real burn though.

Phoenix coming back.

Amazing how the Nets consistently fade in the second half of games. Lack of depth is so brutal for them.

great destination for Thibs. I was thinking the same thing. They might as well "tank it" and get a Top 5 pick and a chance a Ben Simmons

they're awful. It's only a matter of time until complete combustion for BK. That's why I'm trying to get posters on here to relax about them winning a few games. It's an 82-game season and that team isn't going ANYWHERE fast. IT's highly likely they finish with the 3rd or 4th worst record in the league. Only 2 teams that are a lock to have worst records are the Lakers and Sixers

Totally 100% agree. They will win games upsets happen all the time but they are still a bottom 5 team and it doesn't look like improving over the next 2 years which again is when we will have their picks.

I think ppl are right to be a little worried about them winning now. You gotta factor in that teams are gonna go full tank in the 2nd half. I think 4th worst is best case scenario for them/us, and I'm expecting a few teams from the West like the Kings & Nuggets to eventually tank(especially if trades are made).

I guess the one thing we got going in the East is there are a lot of teams who are competing for playoff spots, so there won't be as many easy games.

If you were hoping for a top 7 pick I think we will be in that 5-7 range for sure. But I was hoping for a shot at Simmons.

I'm curious what happens, but you've gotta factor in the possibility that they end up selling off their guys as well. Even Billy's gotta realize that trying to recruit FAs to a 29 win team is a lost cause, right? An outside guy would come in and sell everything off, I reckon. Just not sure on The Kingmaker.

Starting to officially worry about the Pels. Awful coach and they've dug a massive hole. Gotta be appetizing to add a lotto pick to AD.

Sacramento has nothing to tank for. Philadelphia has the right to swap picks with them. If their pick falls between 11 - 30 it's protected. They have every incentive this year not to tank.

I think at the deadline Billy King begins to sell off some players like Joe Johnson and Jarrett Jack in hopes of recouping some draft capital. It makes little sense for them to hang onto guys like Johnson when their season and pick was lost a long time ago.

^ That's a good point I hadn't really considered. I kind of figured that out of spite for not having the pick and wanting to be embarrassed as little as possible that BKN/Billy would go all out trying to compete. It's really a sunk cost at this point and winning 15-20 games really does absolutely nothing for them. He may as well try to recoup draft currency as you mention with anything worthwhile not nailed down.

Let's hope that ends up being the case and that someone makes them an offer of draft picks for JJ or Thad.

Return to Boston Celtics
