Statistically you're correct, but do you honestly have any confidence in him anymore?

Yes I do, he's on my fantasy team. 2 teams actually.

His nickname should be Brad "leave the lights on, cause were going in to extra innings" Lidge.

I truly hope you're right, I felt that way last year. It's still early so obviously no reason to panic yet but we wil see.

Wheeler and Qualls haven't started off too hot either so far, can't believe we're losing to the Pirates, and both games we had the lead late.

Not cool.

However, Jennings looked good and Oswalt is still the man, our offense will come around too(Lee?!).

Bow2Yao11 wrote:Lidge only blew 6 saves last year I believe which isn't that high of a number and 30+ saves once again. He did have a high ERA but can still strike out a ton of hitters. Lidge is still one of the best closers out there...

That's horrible for an "elite" closer. Saves are a somewhat overrated stat. It's not hard to come in for an inning to preserve a lead. A closer is supposed to be someone who basically shuts the other team down from 1-9. 2-3 years ago I think Lidge could have gotten Barry Bonds out late in the game, but now he seems to tenative, and a lot of hitters have picked up on him. He used to throw a 97 mile an hour fastball right down the middle then throw that slider which looked the same way, only when you swung the ball was just not there. He needs to start trying to locate that fastball and force hitters to do more than just sit on a heater in the middle of the strike zone they can crush.

I actually believe it's mechanics more than mental. He doesn't locate his fastball as well as he used to, and the slider he USED to throw for strikes now is never in the strike zone, and hitters know this so they lay off.

Atleast, that's what I saw last season...

OMFG he looks so ugly when he does that smirk, its not even funny, it's like a face to distract a pitcher, maybe Lidge was too busy looking at his face to see where he threw his pitch.
