was about to write something about how wes keeps doing really good things for us and how he needs more minutes.

crawford throws up an awful shot and doc puts jj in. for wes, of course.

Jumpshot Blake is the most frustrating player to watch in the league. And it's not close.

don't agree with that but yeah he has been very off as of late. his arc is a bit flat a lot of the time and it just doesn't look like the same shot we saw in the first several games of the season.

I'm not concerned about the arc of his jumpshot. I'm concerned about how much he is shooting it. Which is far too much, considering he should be attacking off the dribble FAR more often.

He was hot, it would be hard to sustain that level of shooting, so he's essentally just normalizing.

I would like to see him attack close-outs on some of the pick and pops instead of always taking the shot just because it is there

yeah i get what you guys are saying now. i think we'll see that blake in the playoffs again. i'm fine with him practicing jumpers all season long since it reduces wear/tear. plus he's good at it and he's consistently wide open so it's hard to knock him for shooting it.

He's wide open by design of the opposing defense, it's just sort of a situation where they say "we can't stop everything so if we're going to give something up it will be that". Blake has to strike the balance of not being timid to take that like earlier, but also not just taking what the defense gives. Sometimes you have to force what you want on the defense.

The mid-long mid-range area is a hard area to perfect. I think he'll find the balance, and like you said, at least for the most part in the post-season he's in attack mode

yeah generally i'd hate just about anyone except for a few special guys to take that jumper over and over, especially when blake can destroy pretty much anyone in his path. but after years of getting hammered w/out calls in the post i'm guessing a wide open shot is like sliced bread to him. he probably instinctively feels like it's not worth it to fight tooth and nail for an inside shot at that point.

i'm not sure i've ever seen anyone as bad as crawford is when it comes to screens. he dies on EVERY single freaking screen that is in his vicinity. he lacks the agility to move through them but most of all the foresight on how to get past different types or whom he should ice/go under for.

stark, stark contrast to austin who can effectively slice through most screens he sees. really enjoyable to see him solve them and his general overall effort.

Deja Vu All Over Again

Post#13 » by Ranma » Tue Dec 15, 2015 2:28 am

Uh oh. Another lead on the way to being lost. This team really needs to work on finding that killer instinct, but we're too lackadaisical and perimeter-oriented.

Having said that, I don't mind Blake continuing to shoot primarily from the mid-range as long as he continues to work on his defense and take more opportunistic drives to the bucket, but he has been quick to operate too much from the perimeter.

Problems with Closing Out Games

Post#15 » by Ranma » Tue Dec 15, 2015 2:40 am

That's a lot of missed opportunities fumbled by the Clips and plenty of second chances given to the Pistons. Not looking good for a win.

Jordan And-1 with about a minute to go. Free throw is good. Margin was within 3 points behind the Pistons. Proof that DJ is a clutch free throw shooter.
