I think MU takes it
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I went to the MU game on Tues and outside of Ellenson they look so small, San Jose State had a bigger guy at every position except for Ellenson (who is a monster out there)

I think San Jose St is abnormally large. Ellenson and Fischer I think are both 6'10", Cohen is listed at 6'6" and you have small guards in Tracy/Wilson, but I think that is decent height for a college team that plays a lot of 3-guard lineup. Cheatham and Johnson are 6'5ish, D-Wilson is a 6'1" off guard. They aren't exactly midgets.

And that may well be, I certainly didnt get down on the court with them but watching them play Cohen looked like a guard out there. Maybe Fisher is 6'10" in shoes, but if he or Ellenson get in foul trouble...eek.

This is probably the worst matchup between the schools in like 20 years. I'm a MU guy so hoping Ellenson can go off.
I dunno...if you consider UW to be done after a loss to MU, then you're assuming that MU is going to be terrible in the Big East and it's going to count as a bad loss? If not, the Badgers can go 10-8 in conference and boast Temple, Syracuse wins and a few marquee B10 wins and make the tournament as a 9 or something. A 20-13 overall type record in the BIG with some nice wins should get you into the tournament...even with 1 terrible loss and 1 bad loss.
Off the top of my head, I chose Purdue last year - passed the eye test most nights as the Badgers do. Lost to Kansas State, North Florida, @Vandy, lost to Gardner-Webb, (also lost to Notre Dame). Won the games they were supposed to in the B10 and a surprise or two and got in the 8/9 game.

A chance to keep it within 10 I guess.
I agree.

Good points. I think I was looking at after looking at what MU needs to do. MU is in seriously trouble despite being 7-2 due to their god awful schedule and loss to Iowa. I think they are 197 in RPI with a somewhat tough conference schedule coming up. UWs schedule has been pretty good. Marquette needs a quality win bad ever since their thrilling win against #24 LSU now looks mediocre at best.

I bet Wisco beats Marquette, Bo ain't going to lose to two in state schools in one season, especially at home.

If Ellenson is playing well, I feel like MU could get the star player selection into the tournament even with minimal marquee wins if they're on the bubble. We'll see, of course.

How many college teams have a surplus of quality bigs to put in if foul trouble hits?
Hell, look at the Badgers. Vitto Brown is their starting center and he's bad a lot of the time, yet he plays because there is nobody else Bo feels can contribute.
Sure, there are some teams with quality depth at PF and center, but not that many.

But with the Badgers Nigel could slide over to PF for some time, to me Cohen looks way to small for that.

College ball is somewhat of a different game. Teams go small often if one of their bigs get in foul trouble. So long as you have at least one big man in to rebound/defend, a team can still be productive.
Obviously though if a team puts say some combination of four guards/small forward types in along with one big man, those four smaller players have to be skilled and productive.
Then again, we see this also in the NBA now. A number of teams, not just Golden St will go stretches playing a smaller lineup and often it forces the other to respond by going smaller because their bigs can't guard the smaller players.
The bigger problem for Marquette in watching many of their games is overall their guards/small forwards aren't good perimeter shooters, especially from three and the three point shot in both the college and pro game is so important. That shot not only produces points on made threes, it pushes defenders out further, opening up the paint to driving.

??? no kidding. my original point was that MU looks small even for a college team

Riley Dearring has decided to leave the program. No doubt he'll light it up at some mid-major down the road.

Just saw Maryland was #6 and tried pulling tons of quotes bashing his Maryland choice but this board was pretty composed compared to my UW friends. Should be a fun game at the Kohl Center if they come in as a top 5 team. That game will have a lot of hype.

No. You don't. He's making sure Gard gets his chance. For a half a season at least.

Gives Gard a full Big 10 season to prove to Barry he deserves to be HC. Plus expectations are lower now than heading into the season (not that that part played a factor necessarily). Hopefully it's not health related.
Bo did so much for this program. He gets to retire whenever he wants to.
