Philly won't be tanking past this year. They brought in Colangelo because it was getting way out of control. They'll be getting a bunch of free agents, maybe on short deals this summer, though that might still result in a 1st overall lol

After seeing that headline I'm convinced that Grunfeld will find a way to add another small forward to the roster with Caron Butler.

I see a thread in the general board about teams making offers for Cousins. We should be in on that. We aren't getting Durant, but Cousins reunited with Wall would be a pretty good consolation.

That would require making a move though.

A Cousins to Wizards trade is a bigger pipe dream than signing Durant in FA.

Washington lacks assets and the Kings would rather pay Karl a **** ton of money than to move on from Cousins.

Trade talk appears to be heating up and the way this season is going I think Grunfeld is good for a desperation move to get this team back into playoff contention.

Would anybody really be surprised if Ernie packaged a conditional first, filler and Humphries for Ryan Anderson?

I wouldn't be opposed to that trade as long as the pick is lottery protected

No, I would not be surprised. It fits that he's a free agent after the season's over.

Of course, the smarter thing would be to wait until the offseason and see if he it makes sense then to sign him - and I suspect there will be options that make more sense.

I would be surprised.

In the Leonsis era, EG hasn't squandered away a 1st round pick so frivolously. He wasted a pick on Vesely, but that's an error in talent assessment, not in assessing the value of a pick. The only time he traded a pick was for Gortat, and at the time, he was reasonably sure Gortat could be resigned because there weren't many other teams with cap room.

Right now, trading a 1st round pick for an unrestricted free agent would be monumentally stupid. The problem is that there is no reason whatsoever to assume that you can retain your UFA in this climate because there are 25+ other teams out there with cap room. I don't think EG is that monumentally stupid. He's a poor evaluator of talent, but he's not dumb enough to simply give away a 1st round draft pick on a 50-game rental.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting that EG is incapable of trading away a long term asset for short term gain, but if he did so, I would expect him to trade for a guy under contract like Markieff Morris or Patrick Patterson, or maybe for a RFA like Terrence Jones, John Henson, or Jared Sullinger.

I think you're forgetting the trade for Miller and Foye - which I would also like to forget. It's in the EG era, even if it's not in the Ted era, so you can't ignore it - especially since EG is Ted's man.

That was pre-Leonsis.

EG certainly hasn't become any better as a talent evaluator, but at least now he operating under a better strategic plan.

Again, EG is Ted's man, so you have zero case if you leave that pick out. Don't make me use the word disingenuous again. :)

I don't understand why you can't make a distinction between a GM with aging players trying to cobble together one last winning season for a dying owner, and a GM who is building for the long term around a core of players aged 25, 22, 22 and 19.

Well, apparently we have completely different outlooks on this subject. I think I made my view pretty clear.

Okay. It seems we have a way of knowing who is right. If EG trades our 1st for an UFA on an expiring contract, I'll gladly admit I'm wrong.

No, that would not prove you're right. What queridiculo posted and I concurred to was that we wouldn't be surprised if it happened - not that it will happen.

Ruzious, why must you argue about everything? You said you wouldn't be surprised and that's fine. I said I would be surprised and explained why. It's one man's opinion.

But then you have to get argumentative and confrontational, telling me that "I had zero case" and was being "disingenuous".

Beal for Willie Cauley-Stein. Who says no? What makes it work?

I've pimped that trade a couple of times already, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Have them throw in McLemore and a right to swap draft picks in 2016 or 2017.

Trill? Interesting, but what to do with Gortat? I don't know that they can play together, so we'd need to add more teams. To the Checker!

Wizards trade: Beal, Gortat, and Blair
Wizards receive: WCS, Faried, and K.Martin

Kings trade: WCS and McLemore
Kings receive: Beal

Nuggets trade: Faried and Foye
Nuggets receive: Gortat and McLemore

Wolves trade: K.Martin
Wolves receive: Blair and Foye (both expiring)

TRADE ID 6636681

Minny saves money and opens up minutes for younger guys, Denver gets bigger, Sacto gets a potential backcourt star to pair with DMC, and Washington takes a chance on a younger frontcourt.

WCS/Nene
Faried/Hump
Porter/Dudley
Martin/Neal
Wall/Sessions

Interesting, assuming you like Cauley-Stein.

Well, any trade for Cauley-Stein sort of banks on him fulfilling his potential as a defensive anchor and ignores his limited offense. Shipping out Gortat and pairing Willie up with Faried would be a spacing disaster and it also ignores that the rook is currently injured.

Then there's Faried's awful contract, I'd pass.

If Washington would make that deal, there's no rush to move Gortat. Cauley-Stein's salary cap hit is marginal and he can certainly learn a lot and contribute playing behind Gortat in the meantime.

Gortat's deal is going to be a bargain a year from now and it should be relatively easy to get value for him over the next couple of seasons.

I'd be far more interested in acquiring Anderson as long as it didn't involve a future 1st rounder or Oubre.
