So let me get this right, there are metrics that say Ross is a plus defender?

My eyes say VERY different. He doesn't even put up an effort, I've seen Vasquez stay in front of his man and at least fight compared to Ross.

He tries to steer the defense in a certain direction and gives them the Calderon red carpet treatment.

Ross was absolutely awful based on the metrics last year when it came to defense. Doubt that has changed. So lazy and gets lose easily.
