I think these trades are based on the premise that Grunfeld won't have a choice about overpaying.

If you KNEW that someone would offer Beal a max salary this summer, would you trade him for WCS instead?

I probably wouldn't because I'm not sure of Cauley Stein's potential. But it's a tough one.

Agreed.

As much as I like loathe parts of Beal's game, and his injury past, he has proven that he steps his game up in the playoffs. It's just between the months of December through about February where he plays poorly and misses games.

Hopefully, Grunfailed doesn't overpay.

There's nothing wrong w/ discussing a trade sending Beal somewhere -- everybody should be available to trade, John Wall included. It all depends on the deal you can get. This isn't family; it's business. It isn't love; it's competition.

Moreover, this is the "official trade thread", so no surprise that's what is being discussed.

Now, if you think Bradley Beal is going to get a max contract, and you think he's worth a max contract, then for sure you'd have to get a lot back for him. But if you think he's going to get it and he's not worth it (and not going to be worth it), then of course you're going to be willing to take less back.

So, AFM, what do you think -- is Beal likely to get a max offer? And either be w/ us at that level or be with some other team and we get no value?

Yes I know this is the "official trade thread" doofus, that's why I said "this board". The Beal hate is spreading over into multiple threads.

We're talking in circles at this point. I had said earlier that I expect Beal to get either a max contract or very close to one. This team very obviously considers Wall and Beal as the foundation. I can't imagine any scenario where Beal doesn't reup with us, and I have a very vivid imagination, as you know.
I'd like to think him reinjuring his leg is a blessing in disguise in terms of contract negotiations, but soon to be 30 years old Wes Matthews just signed a 4 year/70M max contract with a ruptured achilles.

I put the question wrongly: it's great to know what you "expect." Do you also think Beal *should* get a "max... or very close" contract? I.e. would *you* give him one (or match it if it came from another team)? If no, well gee, that's why people are discussing trading him.

If yes, are you sure enough that he's worth it that you think it's foolish of this board to consider that he may not be?

If you're not *that* sure, why then how could it be foolish to discuss trading him?

Bluntly speaking, it would be foolish for us to give Beal the max. He is often injured, and there is nothing in his history, so far, that can lead us to believe that he will stay healthy through a season. Yes, he is young and he is still growing. Having said that, I havent come upon a good example of a player than has had an injury filled first few seasons, and has rebounded for a great career. I cant see Beal becoming the first example. So, no to a max contract. If we can trade him, and the "price is right", we should certainly consider. Showing up in the playoff counts for something, but its not everything.

I think everyone should get a max contract. It's a really nice way of letting people know you care.

They all try so hard, and it's not their fault if they aren't good. No one should be punished if they do their best.

Plus I just realized that AFM really meant to be talking about his "flushlight" -- someone should tell him where he lost it. But whisper, ok? You don't want to embarrass him.

This team, as its currently constructed, will not win the title. It may make it into the first round of the playoffs, but that is looking like a stretch right now. I had this team winning 50+ games, but we have had lots of injuries, some players decline, and some just not step up. I would like to see us reset. Trade away all our assets (the mature players, not the young pups) and rebuild with draft picks and young players...something like what the Celtics did a few years back. Lets face it, if we stand pat, then given what the team will have at the end of the year, we are not a Durant away from the title, and waiting for him is not wise.

You know what. To put off joking for a moment. You're right about the wave of anti-Bealism. It's hard to understand negativity addressed to the players themselves; they are who they are. Save it for our bumbling FO.

But, *of course* if you were going to "just let (Beal) walk and sign someone else" for that max or near-max contract, you'd trade him instead for the guy picked 6th in last year's draft! Gives you a young guy w/ an upside and a rookie contract, and it doesn't much affect your ability to sign that "someone else."

And there you have the reason for talk of exactly that trade. Not saying I agree. But I don't think it reflects the anti-Bealism. Moreso reflects your own line of thinking. Make sense?

FWIW, I've ramped up the "Beal hate" with an intentional purpose. I believe that management and the players read this board (and BulletsForever), or at least are in communication with people who read this board, and that this board does affect the group think around and within the organization.

I really want the conventional wisdom among hard core fans on this board and BulletsForever to change on Beal. I want Beal to be seen as "just a guy" and not a "budding superstar" because that is what he is. If that opinion percolates throughout the organization, then maybe Beal's agent and/or EG will get more realistic on his asking price.

Maybe I'm just kidding myself on the influence of the board, but maybe not.

Ironically, the Wizards might be better off if Beal played like just a guy. Beal being featured as a ball handler even for one possession is a total waste.

It takes our most effective ball handler off the ball, and puts the worst ball handling guard on the team in a position to manufacture offense out of thin air.

That said, there may be someone or more than one in the organization who reads some of our posts and takes some of our ideas into meetings. As smart as you are I find this reassuring. I poured so much in the past into this forum with the same hopes and motivation.

Right now I have much better things to do. I've had ideas in the past but right now I am happy to no longer obsess over this team or Realgm. They are not friendly to me so F them. There's a whole lot more to life.

They have had years of FREE good advice from some great minds, yourself and Dat2U included.

You can keep the fight. I feel like I'm happy with my life elsewhere. Leonsis can take his billions and remain up there on high with Ernie.

Well said.

He can stay smug and I'll say, "Millsap or Pecherov? Faried or Vesely? Steph Curry or one season of Foye/Miller? Clarkson or cash just because of a pattern of disregarded round two picks?"

Regardless of what's said in their meetings; years and years of wisdom have been dispensed in this forum. I once had an idea for a screenplay based on an organization run by polling and incorporating consensus best ideas. GM by proxy, with the capability of using trending and social media tips.

Yes, a poster like CCJ would be the twisted protagonist. Nutcase? Psychic? Prophet? Informed fan who literally dreamed up a deal...

I'm out for now.
