He will get paid soon, yes, but he's also already fully adjusted to the NBA while WCS might take a season or two before we know what he is. Beal's also still getting better and, though he hasn't played his best ball this year, has still been a 20/5/3 guy with respectable efficiency. (Side note: I feel like fans can often get overly restless when a top pick is only a good player, there's this weird dissatisfaction when a guy's who's drafted top-5 isn't a big star.)
In the end, you know that Beal is an above average starter at the shallowest position in the league, who can shoot at a high level while creating some and not hurting you anywhere. WCS is a big athletic guy who'll have to learn some new skills and develop to become that. He has some vague star potential but I'm not betting on that if the price is someone like Beal (who's already a borderline all-star). Given that they're the same age, I can't see a preference for WCS at the moment.
Nice post. I hadn't realized that WCS was 22. While they both still have considerable upside, the fact that WCS is in the first year of his rookie contract and Beal is about to great a max deal off his rookie contract make it attractive for me as a Wizards fan. I recognize the scarcity of SG's in the league right now, but the Wizards have three other promising young perimeter players in Wall, Oubre and Porter and no one young and promising up front.
As an aside, I see that Kings fans in the thread very vocally say no. The poll results say this is a far worse deal for the Wizards. To me, that shows the makings of a decent trade
