He will get paid soon, yes, but he's also already fully adjusted to the NBA while WCS might take a season or two before we know what he is. Beal's also still getting better and, though he hasn't played his best ball this year, has still been a 20/5/3 guy with respectable efficiency. (Side note: I feel like fans can often get overly restless when a top pick is only a good player, there's this weird dissatisfaction when a guy's who's drafted top-5 isn't a big star.)

In the end, you know that Beal is an above average starter at the shallowest position in the league, who can shoot at a high level while creating some and not hurting you anywhere. WCS is a big athletic guy who'll have to learn some new skills and develop to become that. He has some vague star potential but I'm not betting on that if the price is someone like Beal (who's already a borderline all-star). Given that they're the same age, I can't see a preference for WCS at the moment.

Nice post. I hadn't realized that WCS was 22. While they both still have considerable upside, the fact that WCS is in the first year of his rookie contract and Beal is about to great a max deal off his rookie contract make it attractive for me as a Wizards fan. I recognize the scarcity of SG's in the league right now, but the Wizards have three other promising young perimeter players in Wall, Oubre and Porter and no one young and promising up front.

As an aside, I see that Kings fans in the thread very vocally say no. The poll results say this is a far worse deal for the Wizards. To me, that shows the makings of a decent trade :-)

I think this is incredibly optimistic on BMac despite all the evidence of his career to date. Can't imagine even Kings fans sharing this belief.

It's more about how overrated Beal is and his injury history than being optimistic about Ben's development.

I thought one of the big "draws" for Durant in the offseason is the chance to team up with BOTH Wall AND Beal? I don't think WCS is as attractive a teammate from that standpoint.

the "draw" is that he is from the area. That's the reason his name has been linked-particularly by Wiz fans and the media looking for an angle. I'm not convinced Durant has real interest and there will certainly be better opportunities if his goal is to win right away and I would imagine it is.

You know Kings fans do a ton of complaining about all the Boogie trades and I start to feel sympathy--until I noticed that Kings fans are the one introducing the topic as much as anyone.

We get it--ya'll don't want to trade him and are tired of the speculation. So stop bringing it up yourselves please.

Sorry if it wasn't clear. However, that comment was dripping with an overabundance of sarcasm.

I'd take this and run if I were the Kings, but I really don't see the Wizards going for it.

I love WCS but I don't see how the Kings can say no.

It might be a mistake for the Wiz to sign Beal to a max with his injury issues. It looks like he will have this injury for the rest of his career since it appears chronic. It's scary that he is having this problem at such a young age. This might be the reason the Washington didn't want to extend him this summer for the max. A team can't invest that much money on a player who can only play 75-80% of the regular season. Beal is the better player now, but locking 20% of your cap on an injury-prone player is not a good move. I'd keep WCS, who might be a more valuable asset in a couple of years, if I were the Kings.
