The "Nobody Remembers He Played There" Thread

Post#1 » by Quotatious » Mon Dec 21, 2015 3:43 am

I just stumbled across this photo, and it made me wonder - who are some players you were surprised to find out were members of a certain franchise?

Being an NBA fan since the 1995-96 season, I totally forgot that Sam Cassell and Robert Horry once played for the Phoenix Suns (in the 1996-97 season).

I was going to say Hakeem on the Raptors but it seems people like to bring that up often for ironic reasons.

Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

I was wondering if someone would mention that, when I was starting this thread. That has to be one of the funniest things that ever happened in the NBA - he was a member of the Hawks franchise for only 10 days, played only one game - and it's not even like he was just an irrelevant addition to a big trade (like it happens when teams have to balance out salary to make a trade happen). He was one of the best power forwards in the league at that time, and a top 15 player.

Moses was totally irrelevant as a Spur, but Nique was still solid, averaged about 18/6/2 in 63 games. Imagine if the Spurs had Dominique alongside prime D-Rob between 1990 and 1994, when Wilkins was still a superstar...That would change the NBA history quite a bit, I think. Would give Admiral a really good co-star, that he desperately needed.

Well, Moses had one memorable moment as a Spur:

Some of the above were well known. How about Tim Hardaway for Nuggets and Shawn Kemp for the Blazers.

Even though everybody knows Kevin Durant was drafted by Seattle, it's still weird seeing him wearing a non-Thunder jersey.

Don't bring me the Nate Robinsons or Jamal Crawfords. They do not fit the bill.

Perfect candidate for OP's question, would be either a superstar or an important player from a championship team, who broke out in the second part of his career, while basically anonymous in his early part of career. Guys like Brandon Roy playing for twolves, or Tmac for Spurs, or Hakeem playing for Raptors, you remember them crystal clear because they were pretty much established at the tail end of their careers. People were following them.

This guy though, was a hardly known Rockets once.

Yeah, too bad he played in the tank season when Pop took over the team

D-Rob with prime Nique would have been awesome to watch. People would have a totally different perception about D-Rob if he wins the title pre-Duncan. Too bad most people don't remember how amazing the Admiral was. Most of them only remember the WCF when Hakeem outplayed him.
