He's slowly coming to form.

Murray's good, I think he'd be an impact player in the NBA sooner than later.

Reminds me a lot of Deron Williams in college. Big guard, plays with great change of pace and can go off the dribble with either hand, shoots the three well.

Reminds me of a young Brandon Roy.

His on-court movement/mannerism resembles Dame. Deadly shooter off the dribble with a lightning quick release, excellent P/R player who prefers to split the high hedge with dribble moves and good use of the inside-out dribble as a hesi to freeze the defense before pulling up. I still think he can clean up his shot selection, but seems like he has the green light from Cal.

He doesn't produce, all hype no substance. He just looks like he is, because he gets the most chances, touches and possessions.

Calipari doesn't do well with guards. I know people will argue that but his guards never produce the PER of their ratings. They're always under. He's average with wings but great with bigs though.

Fwiw - not that PER is always the best barometer, but he's so far under average that it's easy to see why UK is losing.

JM's PER adj for SOS is a 14.7. That's Ronnie Johnson numbers. AVG PER for a 4.5 star combo guard with lottery projections in a #1 role on a top 20 team is around 24.5. He's almost 10 points under. Three point difference in PER is considered drastic. He's 10 points under.

14.7 is average for an 8th option and considered deep bench production. Basically, though he may look good, further in depth study shows Murray kinda sucks, and is the main reason UK is struggling. All flash, no substance. Someone else should be getting the touches and his role should be greatly lessoned.

Cal isn't an analytics coach though so it won't happen.

Murray is a nice player but he is far in terms of strength and built from Deron and Roy, he is not as athletic as Deron was either.
He is going to be a productive player, but I fail to see him been much more than a rotation combo.

Yeah, that's what I thought. DWill and BRoy always had a mean post game. Don't see that with Murray.

I'm not saying he will reach either of their levels, but Jamal Murray is a lot better than Williams was at the same age.

He's plenty strong for an 18yo, lol. You're thinking of prime DWill, freshman DWill averaged 6pts/4.5apg in 27mpg. Murray is averaging 17ppg/2.9apg in 33mpg.

He doesn't quite have Williams court sense, but his ballhandling and long range shooting off the dribble looks very similar.

It's looking like Murray is gonna be right in the Bucks' pick range and I absolutely LOVE what I see in highlights of Murray, his skill-set would be perfect for the Bucks. But I'm not sure what he's like on a game by game basis and what some of his weaknesses are, I don't really follow Kentucky games and I've only watched highlights of his good games. Can some of you guys who watch a ton of Kentucky games kinda sum up what you think of him as an overall prospect (strengths, weaknesses, approach, style, projections)? Maybe if or how he'd fit into the Bucks?

I dont see how Murray's skillset is perfect for the Bucks since you are having issues when similar players have run the point, like Mayo.

Not really, we actually looked our smoothest when we had shooting non-PGs at point, like Mayo and Vaughn. Which is pretty sad considering Mayo is not very good at all and Vaughn, while promising, is a 19 year old rookie. Really speaks to how awful our actual point guards MCW and Bayless are. Our team is best when we run offense through Giannis/Middleton/Jabari, we need a non-traditional point who can move without the ball and excels in catch and shoot situations, but is also capable on-ball as a fallback option when Giannis/Middleton/Jabari need help. Someone who can open up the floor and play off other guys, but can also create when necessary. Doesn't Murray fit that profile?

Without looking I would bet he's in the bottom %2 to %5 of the PER ratings for a player in a number 1 role. If he doesn't get the PER above 25 he's not going lottery, and if he doesn't get it past 20, he's not going anywhere. The pros value PER as much as I do.

I also value PER extremely highly when evaluating prospects, but I'd be willing to place a friendly wager that Murray does not get his PER above 20 AND he goes in the lottery.
