http://mweb.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/25420572/candidates-for-sixth-man-of-the-year-oladipo-lin-excel-off-bench

"1. Victor Oladipo, Orlando Magic -- A starter for the bulk of his young career, Oladipo became the Magic’s sixth man after head coach Scott Skiles decided to shake up the team’s starting lineup. The results have been great for both Oladipo and Orlando.

Embracing his sixth man role right from the start, Oladipo knows that his move to the bench will only help the Magic..."

It would be cool if he were to win that award. It's also nice to see him start embracing it a little more. He's been efficient since moving to the bench and in fewer minutes.

I'm not sure he'll be there all season. I think he's better than Fournier. Although that doesn't necessarily make him a better fit in the starting lineup.

The key to look for here is who can provide the best combination of stats and helping his team win. Thats why imo its really between dipo, Lin and Kanter and dipo has better stats than all of em.

I still really like Dipo, but i got to be honest with myself and be content that this might be all he is at this point. I was hoping for a jump into all-star or at least fringe all-star caliber and it might look like he's regressed. The key was always his jumpshot and it's just not consistent enough to make the defense wary. If he had that it would open up his game so much, then again though that has nothing to do with his below average finishing ability despite all the athleticism he possesses. It's a damn shame man it really is, maybe he'll reflect come all-star break and come back stronger but for now he's regressed a bit.

I'm not sure he "embraces" this role, to be honest. His body language shows he rather thinks he's a star on this team. He disrupts ball movement, plays hero ball too often, forces plays. I hate his performance recently and last game was an epitome of his shortcomings. Defense is mostly fine but true lockdown defender wouldn't allow himself to be anally raped by Kyle Korver like that.

This reminds me of time when Sixers were trying to turn Iguodala into franchise player, while he was always best suited as fantastic all around glue guy. Dipo is the same kind of player as Iguodala, but was featured as a scorer due to lack of talent on Magic roster when we drafted him, despite the fact that he was never that kind of player at Indiana. He developed some bad habits and sometimes is hard to watch how he hijacks the offense. He would be much better in 3-and-D type of role next to a perimeter star.

But no way he lands there with C.J. McCollum.

I like him as our super sub and eventually Tobias will join him on the bench.

Watson
Oladipo
Harris
Nicholson
Smith

A bench of 5 guys that could easily start on most teams in the league. If our young guys develop in the next few years, well have the best bench in the league

I don't think Oladipo "Embraced" the sixth man role from the start. He was unhappy about it.

I think you guys are imagining things. What's probably more on his mind -- or what should be -- is how badly he's played on offense to start the season. Sucking will hurt anybody's body language.

I think "hero ball" is a dumb way to put it too. He did that a little the first few games and the coaching staff told him to knock it off. At this point, he's just trying to make the reads the coaching staff is telling him to make. He's simply not very good at it right now, which makes him look slow and bad. But it's different from "stand back everyone, I got this!!" like Nick Young or something.

He is most definitely playing hero ball, he had a 2 on 1 with AG, Aaron Freaking Gordon...... and LOOKED at him and faked the easy pass and went up for the layup and got stuffed at the rim.

If that's not hero ball, I don't know what else is lol

I 100% agree. I think he hated it at first but has fully embraced the role

I was really really hoping to see improvements in Oladipos game. I've seen improvements in Elf that are encouraging, not so much with Vic. Hopefully that'll turn around soon
