That's funny because I remember seeing one of those Q&A interviews with the team, and they asked each player individually "Who's the strongest player on the team?" They all said Nicholson.

Frye is the best jump shooting PF in the league, by quite a margin. But I agree that Nicholson is above average here. Where Nicholson exceeds Frye is in his post-up game. Nicholson's slow ball approach to the rim almost seems unguardable. It's like a change-up pitch. Nicholson might be the only PF in the league to play offence so slow. He is unique at the basket.

On defense, both are below average. Rebounding wise, both need to be better.

On a traditional roster for a championship contender, neither player should have a starting role. Both are, at best, good bench players, for a 60-win team.

In conclusion, I am also "Happy for Nicholson." But the Magic must upgrade at starting PF to win a championship.

Think about it this way though. If you go bigger player on him, he can draw that player out of the paint via the 3pt threat. If you go small on him, he can post-up the smaller player. If he can keep this up, it could be huge for us.

Agreed good to see hard work pay off. I remember having high hopes after his rookie year then he just tailed off. He always had the tools on offense but he just couldn't defend. Now he is solid defender and rebounder. Amazing what hard and good coaching can do.

Two months later since 1st post in this thread and...

Why aren't we playing Andrew Nicholson anymore? I was checking our boxscores here and he played over 20 minutes in 26 games for us this season and we had 16 wins in those games.

I know this analysis is pretty simple, but he was playing OK and he succeeds exactly where we need (offense), so why kill his confidence one more time?

He's gonna leave us and go sign in Toronto and become a 20ppg player for them since they need more scoring from their bigs.

If I were Portland, I'd also throw him an offer. He's gonna be the best bang for buck scorer once someone locks him in for an $8M or less annual deal.

Nicholson's expiring contract could be a throw-in for a deadline deal or he could be swapped for an end of the bench veteran with an expiring contract.

His time in Orlando is likely coming to an end.

I agree, Nicholson survived much longer than expected, but his time here is up either in the next 10 days or in the offseason.
