I don't think the problem is that these guys haven't been told and shown what to do. I think the problem is that the talent doesn't fit.

Please stop trolling the board with your nonsense. They need to match salaries. I doubt they want him. His shooting is terrible. But it's probably him or if they want to do it sooner, it would have to be Lawson, and I'm sure you'll then go on about the Suns being obsessed about PGs. Personally if they want Jones (I know you want D-Mo but he is not likely going anywhere) I'd just make the trade now and take on Lawson and waive him or whatever and send out Tucker too.
Who gives a s**t, Terrence Jones isn't the next Charles Barkley we shouldn't have to take on one of the worst contracts in the NBA to get an decent not great player in Jones. Jones btw is a player that most of their fans on their forum clutchfans hate similar to Bucks fans on Knight but who cares let's just hoard as many Kentucky players as possible.
I would rather just trade Kieff for an expiring contract like David Lee (expiring contract) then even if it's a 3 way but with us only getting Lee in return.
If the Suns want Terrence Jones oh so badly, then they can wait 6 months and sign him then when the Rockets aren't gonna care about matching the hefty contract he recieves since they have ton of talented big men plus would probably rather use money to get help for Harden on the perimeter, not the front court.
If we somehow miss out on him, oh well. T-Jones isn't some super hot prospect to cry over so no big loss.
Fans in general have a constant theme except when it comes to the very obvious stars (guys like Curry and Nash, for instance). Since they watch every game and don't watch every game of other teams, and they form expectations relative to their favorite teams, they end up more or less critical based on team performance. If the team is winning and had low expectations, almost everyone gets overvalued. If they are performing below or at expectations, they are tougher on guys they have high expectations for (Bledsoe, Knight, etc.), and tend to exaggerate the value of guys who they have low expectations for. When a team overall has high expectations, and the team drastically underperforms, almost everyone gets blasted except for guys that are injured.
Houston fans right now hate everyone. There are plenty on that very forum who want Harden traded because he's not a team player, has a low basketball IQ, isn't a leader, and just doesn't know how to win (sound familiar?), and this is a guy who only 30 games ago was arguably the NBA's MVP at 26.
The only player who is really off limits for them in terms of board hate right now is DMo because he has been injured, so they can sell him as the "hope/part of the reason they used to be good".

It's for salary purposes. Houston is hard capped, so they essentially have to trade about $7-8.2 million in this deal if it's for Markieff only, and accordingly the only other option would be Ariza, who has more value than any of the players in the trade so that won't be an option, or else what I would want--McDaniels and any other $1 million salary, but Houston probably doesn't want to include McDaniels. I'd throw in a pick to make that trade, but we'll see.
The most obvious solution is a 3 way trade with a team who wouldn't mind taking Corey Brewer for free or an expiring of any kind. We have nearly a month to find that team.
We'd probably be hard pressed to do that. It would suck if we have to actually give up a pick just to dump Kieff.
I wouldn't mind taking on Lawson from Houston instead of Brewer and then just buying out his contract immediately if possible. I know this is the last guaranteed year of his contract.
Again, I'm ok with Jones but he's not that good. This isn't Motiejunas or Favors or Mirotic or anyone like that. Jones will probably end up an average or barely above average basketball for his career. And I'll gladly take that on the Suns over what we have now but not at a steep price.
I would rather find some other team with a large expiring contract and just swap with them. Like I said before, Kieff and Weems for David Lee works.

Re: Potential Trade Thread
I'll say this about Jones. No, he likely isn't a budding superstar, but he's a quality starting caliber big man who fits our system very well, plays hard, rebounds, defends, and can shoot 3s. This board has been complaining about those specific areas and our PFs for like 5 years. His handles and ability to run are very much elite, which plays to our strengths, and at 23 he fits the age window of the players on this team with real talent (Len, Booker, Warren, Bledsoe, Knight). At 23, I don't see how a rebuilding team would say no to getting him unless we got an offer for someone else as young who is better. Also, he's a 2 way player, and I don't believe that can be understated enough. His advanced numbers actually are favorable to DMo's. I'm all for having 2 way players. I think that's part of our problem overall right now. When building a team of specialists and one way guys, everything has to fit so perfectly to thrive. 2 way guys eliminate areas where you can be exploited and make life easier for everybody else on the court. They provide a much larger margin for error.
I am all for having Jones out of the options available (Anderson, DMo, Jeff Green) for the above reasons. I would hate to take on Brewer to do so, but I think we'd find a team that would want an experienced defender with athleticism come playoff time, so I think we'll be okay if that trade happens.
A starting lineup that has Bledsoe, Len, and Jones as 2 way players could be quite good in 3-4 years. You hope by then that Knight (if he's still here), Booker, and Warren improve their defense enough to become average on that end so that your core is made up of 2 way guys.

Yeah, I just got a PM from someone in an exchange where I asked someone their opinion on Horny and I thought this take was good.
I think he's a great coach (both development and game wise) with the right players. McD has played him a terrible hand and he tried remedying it with Chandler and Price but so far no-one is listening.
I do think he deserves some of the blame for not being harder on the guys, but he's definitely not the problem. Bled is starting to worry me more than anything. He looks like he's going through the motions. Even though it might only last a couple more games, it's the fact that it is happening that is more worrying for the guy that wants to be the leader of this team. Knight's a smart guy without a bball IQ and our backcourt is never going to be as amazing as it could be with Horny's offense. We try and spread and share but we end up doing neither.
Playoffs have to happen. Sarver will lose his **** if they don't. McD probably sees a lot of value in playoffs this year too, he needs that experience in the youngens so they can really take another step in their development.
I'd wager we'll try a hot fix with a trade to put us back in the playoff hunt. Horny will see his contract out. If all doesn't go to plan we have plenty of room to move this off season with picks, nice contracts and some guys coming off the books.
But I think Jdidds actually made a really great point. Trading Bled would be a disaster for our free agency chances. So somehow, we HAVE to make it work with him. At this stage I suppose all we can do is hope, and if by the off season nothing has changed, Horny goes for a more hardline disciplinary coach to whip this team into shape.

Would be a classic Riley move that's for sure. Actually quite easy deal for them to make AND they get out of having to pay headcase Whiteside...
Deng, Birdman, Winslow, Whiteside
for
Cousins, Caron
Whiteside has no bird rights. He literally has 0 trade value as a result. You have to be under the cap to re-sign him, meaning whoever ends up with him could have just signed him outright,, by definition. So really, this is Deng, Birdman, and Winslow for Cousins and Caron. That trade is awful for Sacramento. I have no faith in Vlade, but they would be drastically better off trading Cousins for a boatload of picks from Boston or us or really anyone, and then signing Whiteside in the offseason if they want him.

Well, I'm not entirely sure they want him that bad. That's why I said IF they want Jones, that's what they have to do. I had originally thought Brewer only had one more year, so I certainly don't like the contract either but it would be nice to get a guy that might WANT to help the player night in and night out that we have complete control over. It's hard enough to get Free Agents, so Restricted ones are the best ones to have. He's still young, in a rookie contract, won a national championship, is athletic, and block shots and hit 3s.
I mean an athletic stretch 4 is kind of what we want. His age fits us. He can be a perimeter player. He has gotten much better shooting every year and shoots over 40% from 3. I don't know how many rookie contract PFs shoot over 40% from 3 but I'm guessing the list isn't long. He's really exactly the kind of player we need. athletic, shoots 3s well and can block shots.
I think getting restricted free agents is pretty valuable because you KNOW you have them. We knew we had Kieff but screwed that up, or the twins did it to themselves, so it would be best to get a guy you know you can keep instead of shoot for the stars on a FA star and miss.
Everyone is going to have cap space and the premier free agents are not likely going anywhere.
Completely agree here. Also, worst case scenario he's a solid starter. I think he's proven as much in his career thus far even though I think he's coming off the bench at the moment. The reason behind blowing up the team is to get a high pick, so that you can draft/acquire young talent. So I'm a little thrown by why some are so opposed to Jones. I don't think it's somehow the improper way to rebuild. You always add young talent, and it's very debatable if acting like Philly (trading former 1sts who play well for future 2nds so that you can lose more like they did with KJ) is the proper way to rebuild when it involves passing on young talent in an effort to get a higher pick. Guys who were once role players when younger do end up being incredibly valuable. Nobody knows what Jones will become. His athleticism, age, and skill set does give him a ceiling much higher than his current performance.

I suspect they'll push to the All-Star break before making big moves now.
I think they'll move one of Jones or DMo. Their cap situation next year essentially guarantees they lose one of them. It's not like Morey to just let a guy who he believes actually has value walk for nothing. It's only really happened with Goran, who he didn't think enough of to beat Phoenix's offer or guarantee a starting PG spot, and Chandler Parsons, who he never planned on losing and probably still matches if they had Bosh because he'd see that team as title ready.
My hope is that Brewer turns it around, and Houston determines he's too valuable to move as a veteran role player with playoff experience, and instead gets on board with my ideal trade: Kieff for TJ, KJ, and any of their low salaires (preferably Harrell or Dekker).

I'd be fine with Lawson also since his contract isn't guaranteed beyond this season, so long as we also got Jones, or a pick, in the deal. I'm not a fan of straight dumping Kieff for an expiring though. I'm fine getting a pick, but aside from that I want something that could benefit this team at the time it could contend, and so David Lee doesn't fit that for me. Neither would Jeff Green and some of the other mentions.
As far as Jones, his advanced numbers are actually better than DMo's, although I think DMo arguably has more upside because of his size and the fact that his post game is incredibly rare. The coaches in Houston also started Jones over DMo for most of their time in Houston and they see both every day, for what that's worth.
Favors to me is in a different stratosphere than all 3 of those guys. I'm not sure we could trade our entire team for Favors frankly.
Call me crazy, but I'd rather have Jones than Mirotic. Mirotic has this great reputation as a shooter that he has simply never earned. It's likely because he's a white, European big man who does take a lot of 3s, but he has never made many. Matt Moore on twitter actually rails on Mirotic's overratedness pretty constantly. He shoots 38% from the field (truly awful for a PF. That's Kieff this year territory) and 33% from 3 this year, and his career average is actually 32% from 3. He's no elite defender, and his efficiency numbers are actually just not good. He's also 24, so older than Jones, with less athleticism. The only thing I can see that Mirotic does better than Jones is a slight rebounding advantage (this could be slanted though by the fact that Houston's D is so bad this year that they may not have many defensive rebound opportunities relative to Chicago) and be tall, since he's an inch taller.

For teams contending and over the cap, some may be okay dumping expirings for him, in which case we save the pick.
As for as outright taking him--Philly is the main team who could absorb Brewer. I'm not sure their willingness to do it, but with their PGs back I wonder if they'd take our Cavs first and Brewer for McConnell. He's locked into that tiny deal for a number of years, and has proven enough to be at least a solid backup PG, which is worth a late first at least. I suppose it would depend how impressed they are with him versus their desire for picks.
A lot of it will depend on how much the roster gets blown up. If we don't get a trade that deals us out more players than we bring in, we're basically going to run out of roster spots, so I could see any of our 2nds becoming available, and the Cavs pick (late first in a weak draft) becoming available.

I would LOVE McConnell as our backup pg. I'd trade that first and Brewer for him. I had thought Philly as the team that would want the picks, but with Colangelo on board, I doubt he'd want to take that contract for 2nds. But that idea is a good one. They have Marshall, Wroten and Canaan too.

Yeah, you're not crazy. I may have just gotten bamboozled in a fantasy trade because I thought Mirotic was good because I would get 3s. Well, he's not as good as I thought, just from pure shooting %s, and he really doesn't add anything else, unless he is really good at stuff that doesn't show up in the box score and my educated guess is that he is not.

Sorry guys, but I will be the dissenting vote to say that if PHX doesn't make an all-in move to get to the playoffs, PHX will be relegated out of legitimacy for far too many years. PHX has been able to do so well in the past because we have had a great organization, with a great staff, with a great place to live and a winning attitude. Take the winning away and it's one more step you have to build up.
I will go on record saying I think it will be better to get back to the playoffs with a team you know that will not win it all than it will to just tank right now. We need two years in the playoffs to allow ourselves the right to tank again. Right now we have the same staff showing they are executing poorly on a failed strategy and producing few results. There are no guarantees a tank helps. Ask PHI. I think they are maybe 3 more years away from reaching the playoffs. I have no stomach for 7 more years of rebuilding (like the PHI model)
I would go old before I go young. I would go after Pau Gasol (for Tucker, Goodwin and a pick) or Greg Monroe (for Chandler, Morris, and the PHX pick) to start to give us a chance in the half-court. I would make a run at Whiteside and/or Deng and risk him not resigning- we will have the cap to keep him. Lets see what our guys can do surrounded by some skilled pros that know what they are doing. We may need to sacrifice Knight to make some of this happen.

I wrote this yesterday, but I think Lawson could return to form in the right offense without a ball dominant 2 guard (which with Knight could be an issue - tell Knight no more ball handling duties). 30 bad games vs prior good seasons. If not, he is not a long term contract.

You are completely wrong on this one, IMO. Corey Brewer is a horrible shooter and is making 8.2 this year and 7.6 mil for 2 years after this year.
Brewer is worse than any shooter we have on our roster with the exception of Markieff. Yes that includes Tucker.
Brewer's numbers are:
TS% % .500 career and .450 this year and shoots .289 from the 3 point line. In addition Hornacek would play him and that would take minutes from both Warren and Booker.
I also have my doubts that Houston is going to hand over a future All Star for Markieff Morris. If we do make that trade my bet is that Jones signs elsewhere and we end up with only an over priced Brewer riding the bench.
SF 88 is right on the money with his opinion.
It would be cheaper and wiser to dump Hornacek and see if another voice in the locker room can make this thing work. It they continue to suck, then blow it up this summer.
I do not like Markieff but it hard for me to believe that his departure would be a cure all.

McD is looking to trade Kieff, and might be waiting until Jan. 15th to trade him for TJones and Corey Brewer. (Old information)
Gambo's sources are saying the Suns are looking to trade PJ Tucker. (New information)
I was unclear what we will be doing with Tyson Chandler.
Gambo's sources say the Suns believe this rebuild isn't working, and they want to blow it up and play their young players.
Take it for what it's worth from Gambo.

Is the front office (including Sarver) thinking clearly now? You can't blame McD if Sarver has a hard on for the 8th seed. If this is the thought process then get the fire sale started.
Maybe, I kind of think they were thinking in that sense 2 1/2 years ago and planned to trade all the old guys, and the team, unfortunately, vastly overachieved and got Sarver excited that we were already ready to make the playoffs. But many fans felt the same way because we have almost always made the playoffs so that makes it a little tough.
It's interesting because although the Bucks made the playoffs last year, and suck this year, they understand that they overachieved last year and that they are still in a rebuilding process. I wish Sarver would have realized that after the surprise season and know it was fools gold.
I like to hope for the best, and I like many things about Bledsoe and Knight, but my biggest fear is that they never become smarter players, and if your two primary ball handlers are not smart players, I don't care who you have (coach or frontcourt), you're in trouble.
It would have been really nice to have Nash HERE as a mentor. I would LOVE for us to somehow convince KJ to come and coach the point guards. I'm sure if Hornacek asked (if he's still around) he might give it some thought.
Oh, that would be rich. Wonder if KJ will make sex offender list before or after we hire him.

We'll surely that's a coaching failing. Trying to shoehorn players into a system rather than adapting to what's available.

Come on trade Kieff already so we have something concrete to talk about in here.
