Could this be our "crunch time" lineup soon?

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Wed Dec 23, 2015 5:27 pm

The last few minutes of a close game, I wonder if Stan would considering running this lineup...

PG Reggie
SG KCP
SF Johnson
PF Morris
C Dre

It's a little bit of a smaller lineup, but I think this lineup might be our best lineup to try and close out a close game. Stanley keeps getting better and better and if he continues to grow throughout the year he's eventually going to find himself in during the final moments of the game, even if he starts the game on the bench and stays in the second unit to give them scoring. I thought about how good he was yesterday and it got me thinking about who he would be replacing in crunch time once Stan feels he is ready to be in there when the game is on the line.

I remember predicting that would be our best lineup before the season began and I'm sure most people felt the same way. With that said, I don't yet trust SJ. He has been consistently better lately but he still makes a lot of rookie mistakes. Also, I really like Tolliver at PF down the stretch, unless Ilyasova is having a good game. That seems to be effective so far.

What about when Jennings comes back? I don't think Stan Lee ever finds himself on the floor in crunch time this season - he's a rookie who will get the rookie whistle, and make rookie mistakes.

I don't like Dre in crunch time because of his horrid free throw shooting.

I don't think there should be a crunch time lineup. I think whatever the best mix out of the starting 5 and Stanley, Jennings and Tolliver on that given night is who should close the game.

Bingo, matchups matter. It's probably right to include Baynes in there, as he'll be playing in crunch time due to Drummond's struggles at the FT line. SJ will play more as the year progresses. His drive, strength, and improving shot will make it inevitable.

I didn’t include Baynes because poor FT shooting is the only reason he'd see the floor in crunch-time. It wouldn't ever be because he's lighting it up like would be the case for Jennings, Stanley and Tolliver.

Reggie, Dre, and KCP should be consistently out there in big situations. But I think otherwise you play the hot hand/guy who best fits the situation. On a sidenote, would like to see Morris' workload get cut down a little.

That lineup is the best lineup right now. SVG does need to use it more.

Eventually, hopefully our "cheat code" GSW style smallball lineup will be:

RJ
Jennings
KCP
SJ
Morris

Pistons Cheat Code
I would love for SVG to pull that one out when teams try the Hack a Dre
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Yeah this is what I was getting at. Those 3 are constants and the other 2 spots should be filled with the hot hand.

My hero Zach Lowe actually talked about this on Twitter. He says, for no reason whatsoever, he feels this lineup has to happen eventually.

I agree.
