If you grew up outside of Arizona or ESPECIALLY outside of the states, what made you a Suns fan?

The Barkley trade. I was 9 and didn't have a team. I loved MJ and the Bulls but it seemed too easy to be a Chicago fan so I went with the Suns as soon as Barkley was traded. Loved Barkley.

In the early 90's in Australia, all anybody spoke about or supported was Jordan and the Bulls. I wanted to support someone different. I started following the Suns at the beginning of the 92-93 season when Barkley was traded. Luckily they made it to the Finals, but I then had to put up with all the Jordan band wagoners when we lost. I have stayed a Suns fan ever since.

Living in NY, I had a friend that was really into the Knicks, I had another who was into Michael Jordan and the Bulls so I felt I had to have my own team. I picked the Suns because of Barkley and KJ. This was around 1994 and have stuck with them ever since. It's a really stupid reason but now being a fan of the Suns is in my blood. If only I had known then the kind of heartache and masochism I was getting myself in for. lol

I loved that game. In college me and another guy went to this 7/11 all the time to play, and we were Orlando, and I was Shaq, and he was Skiles actually, and it saved all our record, and we were demolishing any random two guys that would show up at 7/11.

Then one day we walk in and the star basketball player for the AZ Wildcats, Khalid Reeves, was playing, and we were like "Man, this will be fun." Well, he and whoever he was with DESTROYED us.

This is ridiculous, but the Suns were the highest rated team in NBA Live 06...
I then became a massive Amare fan, and just stuck around after he left.

I became a fan in a very similar way. NBA Live 06 is what got me interested in basketball. I live in Michigan, so I would always play as the Pistons. I was awesome at the game, but Steve Nash would destroy me every time I played the Suns. I decided to watch one of their games to see if he was really that good, and I ended up falling in love with the team and their style of play. Like you, I just stuck around after Nash and Amar'e left.

Pretty much same for me, but its was NBA Live 07.

Nash 89
Marion 93
Amare 93
Diaw 83
Bell 75
Barbosa 79

Beastly team.

Stuck around after Nash and Amare left like many others.

Fav player growing up was McGrady though.

I'm from Australia and it was Sir Charles when I was a kid that made me follow the Suns. Ever since I was a kid iv wanted to go to Phoenix and watch us play! im actually leaving Melbourne on Saturday to come and watch the 76s, cavs and spurs games. It just sucks that it's taking me so long to make it happen and right now we totally suck as a team. Just my luck hey.

Well on the plus side you get to see future potential star Jahlil Okafor, LeBron, Kyrie, Love, Duncan, Aldridge, Ginobili, Parker, Leonard and a bunch of players that would be great to watch in person.

Yeah I'm excited about the talent I get to see! I'd be more pumped if some of that talent was wearing a Suns jersey. Either way i get to do what I always wanted to do as a kid.

Basket in europe was very popular back in 90's when very good players from europe become hall of famers. Drazen , Kukoc , Stojakovic ,Divac and many others. In my country the best player was Nick Galis . A superstar , holl of famer and the biggest failure of Danny Ainge because he didnt want to pay a small european guy to play overseas. BIIIIIIIIIIIIG MISTAKE DANNY !

So we started watching NBA ,one game per week because our TV Channels didnt have more money to buy games . One day i saw Phoenix Suns and i see a Kanadian guy passing and scoring and running the floor , changing my whole philosophy about basketball. I felt in love with Nash and the team .

The truth is that Michael Jordan is responsible for the spread of NBA basketball in Europe . Many people are Chicago Bulls fun and i am happy i resist on this tense . NBA live was also responsible for being Phoenix Suns fan.

When internet connection's came in many houses , youtube and many stream sites ( illegal :P ) were my window to this NBA world. I remember the playoff battles against lakers , spurs , mavericks . i always choose not to sleep in order to see NBA playoff matches and then go to school/work . your clock global zone is too late for us . :) . i am still mad about referees and stern's favorite team , Spurs. So many bad calls , in favor of popovic and duncun company.

2010 may . the last chance to become champions . i couldnt believe the power of this team.
---1st round .4-2 portalnd blazers .no hope for lamarcus. Amare was dominant.
--2nd round 4-0 against Spurs . the sweetest sweep in NBA history when Dragon give a hard lesson to popovic and Nash with one eye saw more things than the entire Spurs team.
-Conf Finals . Lakers vs Suns . . The score was 2-2 . and there was 3,5 secs on the floor . Kobe airball and i started to celebrate . But Artest came from nowhere ...... then i was crying like a baby.

Nowadays i am watching markieef being happy to have big money doing nothing . where is the phoenix suns spirit??

I grew up watching the NBA in the early 90s here in Germany. I was 12 years old when the finals were first televised. Everyone around me were living up the Jordan/Bulls hype. Decided to take the other side! Barkley it was! so i was sold.

I became a Suns fan watching the betamax tapes my cousins from Arizona showed me when I visited. KJ and Barkley era, good times!

Now not so much but at least I get to watch all the games I want.

92-93 season, when Majerle made what must have been a 30-footer with 1.6 seconds left to beat the Lakers. That exact game. Growing up in LA I hated the Lakers.

I became a Suns fan early 2000 when he had the likes of Shawn Marion, K. Johnson, Kidd, Googs, Hardaway and of course the one and only Oliver Milller. I was 15 at that time before that I liked watching the Bulls when I came to America (Phoenix, AZ) from Ukraine. Have been a Suns fan since then and will always be one regardless if I move or not. Also, love the Cards, Yotes, Cardinals and UofA. God, I remember that one year we faced the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs having a young Kidd, Nash on our team also had KJ face off against the Lakers, we didn't win but when the last time 2 HOF pg's and one possible pg was on the same team?

Im from basketball crazy Philippines but im probably one of the very few Phoenix Suns fans in here. Im a three decade long suns fan, (since the Tom Chambers days) and have lurked on this board for quite awhile. I became a fan because of the teams offensive and fast paced orientation and that we can always count on the team to be competitive and reach the playoffs every single year. Alas, how far our beloved suns has fallen! it really breaks my heart on how low we have sunk especially the last couple of years
