Wasn't I, though I can see the argument. He's gone from regional no name to can't miss TV in a single year. No easy task.

Max Holloway should be on this list imo. His trajectory is almost the same as Tony Ferguson in that his 2014 was good as well but then he was beating meh fighters whereas now he has moved on to beating ranked fighters and is a true contender.

Holloway's 2015:
1) Beat Cole Miller
2) Destroyed Cub Swanson on Fox
3) Beat Charles Oliveira in a weird fight
4) Beat Jeremy Stephens
(His 2014: Akira, Collard, Fili, Chope)

Compare to Tony's 2015:
1) Beat Tibau
2) Beat Thomson
3) Beat Barboza in a foty candidate
(His 2014: Kikuno, Castillo, Trujillo)

I voted for Sage but I think I took him as more of a bigger news story than a breakthrough fighter...

The interpretation here is more of someone going from obscure to contender than someone going from contender to top of the game.

Sage isn't a contender but few people grew from a kid in a a (admittedly one of the larger) regional shows to making 40/40 on a UFN main card and getting a ridiculous amount of media attention in as little as 3 months.

It just depends how you define it. Is it relevancy in terms of ufc marketing machine and Sage's bank account? Or is it relevancy in terms of beating good fighters? Sage has the former.
