Anyone else think Hornacek is getting jobbed a little?
As has been reported all over, Hornacek is very much in the hot seat. Does this strike anyone else as the GM scapegoating the coach for a series of questionable personnel moves.
(1) Signing, and then just giving away IT, because you already have Dragic & Bledsoe.
(2) Trading that Lakers pick for Brandon Knight for the privilege of paying Knight a whole bunch of money.
(3) Waiting until Dragic's agent publicly said he's not re-signing before trading Dragic.
(4) Signing the Morris brothers to deals in which Kieff took a discount and then trading his brother.
(5) Holding onto Kieff long after he made it clear he wanted out.
(6) Paying an older version of Tyson Chandler a whole bunch of money to come play for an uptempo team.
I mean if I were Horancek, my exit interview would probably involve security escorting me out of the building. The GM has just thrown an anchor around the head coach and blamed him for sinking.

Hornacek was given a no-win situation, but I am pretty sure the main reason they haven't fired him is because once he's gone, the microscope heads right to the front office/ownership. He's not going to be back in 2016-17. I mean he's lost the locker room, but he has a ton of vets who haven't done squat (save for Chandler) and they don't want to listen.

Pretty much, Unless he's making the moves he's kind of in the Brett Brown situation.

Something has to give. It's logical that he would feel a lot of pressure at this point.

But don't you think that keeping Morris under the current circumstances essentially ensured that the locker room was going to have problems. I mean when the Cavs disappointed and it became clear that Bynum could no longer jump, it was the GM who sat Bynum down to explain that he wasn't going to get a lot of minutes and the GM who signed off on Bynum not being allowed back near the facilities when he disrespected the coaches. There's no reason for Markeiff to be near the team right now except for the delusion that you're going to improve his trade value.

Agree with all but in fairness Knight has been pretty damn good. But yeah you're right.

They killed it with this trade. The rest I won;t disagree with, but anytime you can get multiple unprotected picks for an expiring contract you are either trading an amazing difference maker or killing it in a trade, and my view on Dragic is much more the second one.
(The 2nd pick is straight unprotected, and the first pick is top 7 for one year before unprotected in the 2nd).
But yeah, the biggest issue is that Phx GM kept acting as if the NBA was played on a spreadsheet, instead of caring about things like player chemistry and team environment.

A little? Hornacek has done nothing to show that he's not actually a pretty good coach. All this shows is that Phoenix is a dysfunctional organization with one of the truly awful owners in the league.

Re: Anyone else think Hornacek is getting jobbed a little?
hell yeah.
the FO pretty much left him out to dry by pissing off Dragic and the Morris twins...which in turn **** the lockeroom up...which in turns messes up the on-court stuff.
and now they are basically firing on him by getting rid of his staff...that is generally step one to his own firing.

They might have won it because Dragic looks like a bad fit with the Heat. But if Dragic was as good as people thought on that team, you'd be getting a couple of late first round picks. But that's not really my point. You can't view that trade in isolation. If Dragic wasn't going to re-sign with the Suns, you have to imagine that he made that known to them before his agent said so publicly. So if you were going to trade Dragic, there was no need to give away IT. There was no need to trade for Knight and part with that Lakers pick. Everything they've done has been reactive instead of proactive. This isn't an organization with a plan in place. It's an organization that is lurching from one direction to the other.

I don't think you guys are getting a new coach until the lottery balls have dropped my friend.

I thought they won it the second it happened. Then again, I've never believed much in Dragic.
Obviously bringing in IT, having the situation go so sour 'because' of him that you have to trade him, and then still have to trade Dragic is bad and reactionary. But in terms of that reaction -- Dragic -- I think they aced it which was my point. Getting a single lotto protected 1st would have seemed more in line with the market, all things considered.
The Knight trade I thought was horrible the second it happened for Phx. THe IT trade I was railing against directionally for Boston, it pushed them out of range to get a guy like Winslow who was worth 3-4 mid 1sts to them. However, IT has been great so I might have to re-evaluate that.

This, but they traded their willy wonka ticket for someone they could have got during offseason.
I think Phoenix GM deserves lot of blame for the current situation.

They're lucky he was able to coach the team to as many wins as he did last year. If he gets fired someone will scoop him up right away.
