I wasn't willing to believe all the tinfoil hat reports about this FO being straight-up Machiavellian before. But now? I think we have a bigger smoking gun than we've ever had. Jimmy speaks up, and suddenly everyone under the payroll or closely linked to it is on his ass about it. And they are sneaky about it, too, because they'll sort of do some backhanded insults surrounded by praise. What sort of set the alarm off for me was when I listened to Mark Schianowski's (sp) interview. He was so critical of Jimmy, but just heaping excuses for Derrick. It was all like "oh, well, it's understandable that Derrick is still sucking, he's been through so much over the past few years". It's a complete joke how the FO has such a tight control on the media in this town. They rule through fear.

Well cowley has some nasty hit pieces on Rose, even when he doesn't play. While at the same time he praises and makes excuses for Butler and Hoiberg. The media overall is a joke.

Everybody who appears on a Bulls telecast is gonna give the company line. With the possible exception of Will Perdue, sometimes he goes off and I'm not sure that is all fully approved.

Report: Jimmy Butler was ready for Bulls to fire Tom Thibodeau

I can’t stress this enough. In talking to players, in talking to people within the organization…

The relationship was broken. It was gone, and I’ve been told repeatedly – even recently, Tim – that Jimmy was one of those guys who was like, “Hey, you know what? I’m done with this I’m done with this.”

And I think they have a nice relationship, Tom and Jimmy, now after some time has passed.

Nick Friedell and Dan Feldman are also in the FO's backpocket now?

Cool.

It's interesting that the Bulls that are probably the 3rd (sometimes 4th) most popular team in town has such a strong pull on all of media!

Must have jedi's working in the org.

Basically any article that comes out showing the FO or ownership in good light OR their opponents in a bad light is Jedi Mind Control.

Yes, they have connections to the Russian mafia.

From Nick Friedell's most recent article:

The feeling from many within the organization is that Butler's personality has changed over the past year during that rise, which included Butler signing an extension for more than $90 million over the summer. Butler has been open about the fact that he is adjusting to his new role as a leader, a mantle he has never had to wear on a daily basis before.

Sounds EXACTLY like someone who doesnt know how to deal with new found fame.

As long as he says little and keeps doing a lot on the court, thats the proper way to be a leader imo. He did fine yesterday. Although I wish he started giving maximum effort a little earlier.

So Jimmy hates Thibs and then is back to being BFF with him under a month after Thibs got fired?

Does not compute. Smells like the FODF at work.

It's easy to be acquaintances with someone when it no longer has anything to do with your job.

Absolutely. Jimmy obviously still respects him, but was probably just sick of working for him. I've been there with some previous bosses.

"I think we're both learning a lot about each other," Butler said. "He's probably learning how moody I am on a daily basis, to tell you the truth. It's hard, but I think he lets me be who I am. He handles everything that I do very well.

"I'm not a big communicator. I'm not great at it. But he's always talking to me. He's always asking, 'How are you doing? What can we do?' He's always asking me my opinion on a lot of things. It helped a lot."

Now that Butler is an NBA all-star, it's easy to forget he grew up in tough circumstances in Tomball, Texas, left to fend for himself as a young teenager moving from home to home. Even while he's succeeded in basketball and has plans to be a leader for the Bulls, his confidence can still waver.

"There's always something going on in my head. That's what it is," Butler said. "I could come in a happy-go-lucky guy. But when something's bothering me, I don't got no energy and you can really tell. (Hoiberg) is always like, 'Do you want to sit down and talk?'

"Whether it's him or it's (assistants) Jim Boylen, it's Charlie (Henry), it's Randy (Brown) -- they're checking in on me. That's a lot of love. It's very important to me."

Butler lost his father figure when the coaching staff changed after last season and Adrian Griffin took a new job in Orlando working with Scott Skiles. But the relationship didn't end when Griffin moved.

"I still talk to Griff," Butler said. "Griff knows everything that's going on in my head. I can't get enough phone calls and text messages from him, asking 'Hey, what's going on? I can tell ...' That's my guy. I miss Griff, but he's in a great position right now."

Got a source for that? I'd say the Bulls are the clear 2nd most popular team after the Bears followed by the sCrubs/Hawks, Sox.

I'd say the Bulls are 3rd most popular in this town. Baseball is still the 2nd most popular sport in the country after football. Basketball is in 3rd place. And the Bulls are 3rd place in this city, unfortunately.

If you think that's bad though, think how the Blackhawks FO must feel. They're winning multiple championships and are still 4th

Ask our owner. Who said he'd trade all 6 Bulls titles for 1 baseball title.

and JR is about ready to throw a $100 million contract at a star FA, either Alex Gordon or Cespedes. He wants another WS title badly.

I think it's good that he's not taking the Cubs ascendancy lying down, he's trying hard to build a competitive team on the other side of town

really amazing how well they played since calling out the coach publicly. sometimes teams need a wake up call. great leaders know exactly what to do and when to do it. you can't argue with the results Jimmy got. Incredibly strategic mind at work here....

I am enjoying that players are asked post game why the team is playing so hard they laughingly make a "Props to Jimmy Butler" joke and crack up. Bobby and Doug both did it last night after the Knicks game.
