three games and 22 points in his last six, the scout was not nearly as kind.

"Big Skal, no strength, no toughness, no game," the scout said. "Comes off the bench, plays 10 minutes, had 2 points, 3 rebounds, 0-for-3 from the floor. Shot an air ball on an easy hook.

"That guy is what you call a 'Paper Tiger,' a mock draft myth."

Told that DraftExpress.com had Labissiere projected as the No. 5 pick in the draft after he was once at No. 1, the scout said: "No. 5, he's not No. 1, he's not No. 5, he's not No. 51. That's a joke.

"He's not going to play anymore for Kentucky, I don't think. There's nothing he could do. The Louisville big men are mediocre at best. Truth be told, they're below mediocre. He couldn't do nothing with them. He's a fraud. The thing is going the other way fast."

He added: "You gotta see kids play against big-time college athletes and then you can make some kind of assessment. ...This is Rupp Arena, sold out, this is religious tribal warfare. It's one of the great rivalries in college basketball and if the kid didn't have a big name, he wouldn't even have played because he didn't deserve to play. That's my opinion.

probably not. Ainge goes BPA

I wonder how long it will take before it dawns on him - combo guards are so easy to find, maybe they're not actually the BPA. "What are the odds! The best player left on the board falls to us again! So weird, another 6'4" defender who can't shoot..."

I don't think he will have to make that decision on Dunn. I think he'll take the BPA at #1 or #2! :)

To add to this, Marshall Plumlee completely had his way with Skal earlier in the year. Just utterly abused him in the first 10 minutes of the game. Once I saw that, I knew there was no way you could waste a first round pick on him.If Marshall Plumlee could beat him that thoroughly, an actual NBA big man would make him cry. Skal would best be served with at least one more year at Kentucky, trying to follow a path similar to WCS.

I am just cautioning against that, and I am cautioning that even the Nets pick could be a while before he contributes. Just look at Jabari Parker. He was viewed as "NBA Ready" when drafted but still is struggling to make a positive impact for MIlwaukee.

I generally agree with this but from many celtics fans point of view they see #6 pick Marcus Smart starting at PG on a playoff team last year and a late first and early second round pick this year that a large portion of the fanbase wants to see in the rotation this year in Hunter and Mickey. People are naturally going to expect it can be done again. The point I was making was more along the lines of quality of team related to draft position.

Do you not feel guys like Russell and Okafor would be rotation players here? Their teams aren't in playoff contention because the rest of the team is garbage. That's not the situation here. I would expect a top 5 draft pick to be able to contribute very early barring injury (like your example in Parker) or the player flat out sucking. Hell, even Porzingis was supposed to be more of a project and he's certainly contributing for the Knicks.

Vast majority of rookies are useless for winning games. You play them to make them better more quickly, not because they are better than your top 10 players for winning games.

Rookies don't understand what they can do mostly. Vets understand how to apply themselves to max effect. Drafts for 3-5 years down the road, not for immediate results.

Thought this guy held some promise after a decent year as a young freshman. Nice strong jump across the board this year, will be 19 at draft night.

Need to see Onuaku play in the ACC - he was mediocre vs. the only two decent teams Louisville played in non-conference play.

Avery has been a disappointment lately and Thomas hasn't played well vs. good teams. Hield and Felder are looking like good choices with the Philadelphia pick. Center is a bigger need, but guards are a bigger need than forwards IMO.

Looking at our draft. 4 picks in the top 31 and 7 picks overall?

What the heck are we supposed to do with all those players? I would take a shot on every Euro out there. Any reach, we gotta take the chance.

Add that to the 3 guys we have now, we can start an expansion team or something. I would throw 2 first round picks and the Philly pick towards some help this year.

This is why I am insistent that we need to be seriously attempting to make a move now, even if it's one where we slightly "lose" on value.

I have us at 8 picks this coming draft (BK 1st, BOS 1st, DAL 1st, PHI 2nd, MIN 2nd, CLE 2nd, MIA 2nd, better of DAL/MEM 2nd).

It's all well and good to pretend that we'll just make a consolidation trade on draft day, but as we just saw, you can't force a team to trade with you. And if we thought we were grumpy having to make all four picks this past draft, just imagine the board implosion if we actually were forced to make and keep all eight. Further, if we actually get to that point, then teams will know that we're desperate to do something, and will try to play hardball with us - the Charlotte near-miss will seem reasonable compared to the offers we get this time around.

If it were me, I'd plan to keep the BK 1st and the Philly 1st, then attempt to utilize as much of the rest as possible for a meaningful upgrade now.

Of course, a counterpoint is that you can say that those late 2nds aren't really worth enough to fret about losing or to take any risks to account for - if we pick someone at #58 with the CLE 2nd and then just waive that kid, it's not the death of the franchise or anything. So, depending on where you draw the line, maybe you only really care about 4, 5 or 6 of those 8 picks.

Not really worried about it at all. Pick consolidation deals happen every draft including last year. They didn't get the one they wanted so they chose not to do any,no need for people to have a complex about it now.

It's not my most favorite move, but pressure is on even more so on Denver to trade a wing with Will Barton's emergence. Can't keep him, Chandler and Gallinari into next year and keep everyone happy.

Heck do it if necessary after the draft, that way they can still pitch Durant.

Dunn with another studly game - 20 points on 6/12 shooting (2/3 from 3), 9 assists, 7 boards, 2 steals against a top-10 Butler team on the road, and if you watched the game, he completely dominated every second he was on the court.

Stone looks really interesting, since he lost fat and put on muscle he moves a lot better on both ends. I was wondering why Maryland hasn't given him more minutes. He could easily shoot up the boards.

So what's a fair top 6 heading into conference play? Something like Simmons, Ingram, Bender, Dunn, Poeltl and maybe Rabb, not in any firm order.

Your first 4 are OK. I'd replace Poeltl & Rabb with Brown & Hellenson. Not as high on Poeltl but I do like Rabb. Diamond Stone would be intriguing if he has more games like his 39 point performance.

Those are the two (Brown and Ellenson) I'd put in if I extended the list, but it's pretty loose for me still. Would be great if Luwawu from France can look like a top 10 guy, that would start to round out the top group pretty well, with one of the other guards or maybe if one of the Kentucky kids has a revival.

I want to see more of Poeltl to try to get a handle on what he would project as. I feel like he could be potentially a Bogut level player but there is a good amount of Joe Klein downside there for me as well. Haven't decided yet.

I hate when people factor in age of prospects too much (even though I constantly do :)) Dunn will turn 22 before he even plays an NBA game and in fact is almost the same exact age as Smart. I think he is a great player, but does that factor into the thought process for where he gets drafted?

Ellenson intrigues and terrifies me at the same time. He's tall, strong, reasonably long, his post moves and shooting are impressive, he can rebound and pass. But he's also a bad defender, has a not-very-impressive standing reach and his competition isn't mature as he is. I can see him as an exception of "white player who dominates college but won't be spectacular in the NBA" rule, but just as easily a poster boy for the rule.
The positive is that Ellenson's body seems stronger (in some cases much stronger) and more athletic than most of other similar players. The only comparison in that way is Spencer Hawes who at the end turned out dime a dozen NBA player.

I just don't know. What's your take on him?
