That was so messed up considering Minnesota got a solid return for KG. I can't believe we're repeating Laker fan myths.

Re: Official BKN-DAL-MIN pick watch Thread 2015-16 season
Good analogy with the Kevin Love situation - that definitely hurt Boston. The difference is that Boston can actually help Brooklyn get out of their PR nightmare and really tear things down. Imagine going through three seasons of badness and not having your own draft pick. Now not liking Lopez is another story. I agree a Whiteside player is a better mix for the Celtics. But he will be far more expensive. Who knows - with the Nets maybe they would be so desperate to get back into drafting, it may just take eliminating the opportunity for the Celtics to swap in 2017 and they may get even more out of it (picks) down the road. As much as they hate it Boston is by far their best trade partner and the only one who can give them the green light to tear things down with purpose.mwhis21 wrote:celtxman wrote:One of the reasons I've been a proponent of exploring a Brook Lopez for one of the picks back, is that we don't know how they will react longer term and therefore two great picks would trump 3 good picks and you get a talented All Star center that could be a draw for a free agent. I heard a Brooklyn writer on WFAN said in his opinion the Nets should still tear it down and trade Lopez and Young etc for someone else's high picks and start over. That would be tremendous if you are the Celtics.Smitty731 wrote:
After the Deadline that team is going to be awful. I can't see them winning much at all. They'll trade off some guys and fall apart the rest of the way. That is the hope at least!
But that is his thought - he doesn't personally go through the PR nightmare of being bad, having no chance of drawing anyone and handing over very high picks to the Celtics in the process. So since the Nets are in an unprecented position, they may actually be buyers at the trade deadline of players from other non-contendors being let go. In effect they could be behaving like a playoff team and then promising the guys they go after playing time and a contract next year.
I just don't see a scenario in the near future where the Nets will trade with the Celtics. For any reason. Reminds me of the Love to Boston rumors a couple of years ago. There seemed to be fear of trading with Boston after getting fleeced for KG.
Here's the caveat: I don't want anything to do with Brook Lopez, at all. Skilled? Yes, when he's on the court, and that hasn't happened consistently over the past 4-5 years. On top of that his injuries are ones that can be devastating to a 7fter. I'd rather overpay for Whiteside, then take on Lopez.
I also don't agree that the Nets are going to be buyers because they have nothing to offer. Picks? nope we have them. Young talent? Nope. What do they have to offer these selling teams? They can probably get more from actual playoff contenders who are making a play for the playoffs?
I mean, there could be as many as 20 "buying" teams this year because of the weird parity.
Worst case scenario - no matter what you personally think of Lopez, he would be a tradeable asset, under a favorable contract (with the new cap) that has injury provision. But I think he is better than many give him credit for
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

This loss to the Nets has me as down (as a Celtics fan) as I've been in a long time. This was inexcusable. I need to calm down and reevaluate. I hope I eventually come to the conclusion that this game is not the end of the world but it seems very bad right now.

I'm constantly pessimistic and mentally preparing for the worst to occur, and I'm very down as well. Haven't felt like this since game 6.

I am upset because these games are so important, and I saw effort/body language tonight that was not acceptable. Yes, the Cs made a run in the 4th quarter and they deserve credit for that. But too late by then. It's a 48 minute game. Shots were not falling but that can't impact effort on the other end. Just calling it like I saw it tonight.
Give the Nets credit as they played harder than the Cs did today. And I hope Jack is OK.

Re: Official BKN-DAL-MIN pick watch Thread 2015-16 season
1) This is disgraceful because everybody knows how much this means for the team. Smart and Crowder being the only guys who tried to fight basically sums up who is playing for himself vs team players. But by not playing for the team, you're not playing for yourself.
2) Phoenix is creeping up the lottery boards and New Orleans is simply bad. There is a fairly decent chance we could end up with pick #5.
3) I am much more concerned about Danny's drafting than about the actual strength of the draft. Somebody will come up, 2013 has Giannis, Gobert and CJ MCCollum. The only real dud is 2000. But lately Danny's been iffy. If all the consensus players are off the board and no potential trade in sight, he won't maximize the return by taking the safest contributor.
4) Nets' schedule is harder from now on, so that's good.

I am concerned that the Nets pick ends up 7-8. A real possibility. I am also concerned that the Cs may miss the playoffs. This is a real possibility in a more competitive east and the way this team is playing.
Let me be specific. I see lackluster effort from Sullinger and just very poor play from David Lee. I could stand to see fewer minutes for both of these guys, and Jordan Mickey the recipient. I have no idea why David Lee is getting minutes over Mickey. Kelly Olynyk needs a shot of intensity also.

Welcome to the treadmill. These Nets picks and Danny's assets will be dust in 5 years.

Welcome to the NBA. You can do a lot of things to get better... You can maximize your odds. You can make all the right moves. But unless your in the right place at the right time, you're no better than a 5-per center.
People can be critical of the approach this team has taken, but even if you add a Justice Winslow to this team, it wouldn't change much.
Say a prayer, hope the ping pong balls bounce your way, or cross your fingers that a legit star become available.
That's about it. A whole lot of wishing. That's the NBA. It's the reason I stopped posting here a decade-plus ago. Try to enjoy the (normally) competitive team we have because even if they've set them selves up perfectly (which I think they've done very well), it still comes down to luck.

Well, at least the board kept it classy and didn't cheer when Jack went down with an injury.

Yeah, Brooklyn isn't finishing as a bottom 3 team. They will be competing every night, while the Pels, Suns, Lakers, etc. will be going for ping pong balls by no later than March. We're gonna need the basketball gods to bless us on lottery night. But this organization has absolutely no luck whatsoever, so I'm not counting on it.

If Rockets and Suns can teach us anything this season, it's that all the assets have an¸expiration date. Sully is the first to expire. Then comes Olynyk. And 2018 off-season is when Smart and Young get paid. If the Cs don't user the assets before 2017 off-season, their value will be lowered. It's good we have BRK picks to exchange for Sully and Olynyk, otherwise we'd be doomed.

Yup. Milwaukee Bucks of the early 2000s come to mind. Ray Allen, Sam Cassell, Glenn Robinson, Michael Redd. Fantastic team in 2000-01. GR ages, Redd slowly breaks down from injuries, Ray Allen gets into clashes with George Karl and is traded for aging Gary Payton who bolts for Lakers, Cassell is traded for Joe Smith because there are too many backcourt players and no frontcourt. They go from having 4 stars pieces to none.
If one said OKC wouldn't win a title in Durant/Westbrook/Harden era in 2012, people would laugh at his face. 4 years later OKC hasn't won anything and if they do, it'll be a big surprise.

Lost in the Gotterdammerung surrounding the Nets travesty: the Pelicans beat the Mavs on the road! That kept BK in 3rd place and helps keep the Mavs in shouting distance.
Unfortunately the West's midsection continues to collapse. Phoenix is a dumpster fire that's only burning brighter. Denver just lost Faried. Minny's too young. Portland soft tanking. NOP so far back. Sacramento still as likely to implode as improve. Even if Dallas collapses, it's hard to see any of these guys knocking them out of the playoffs.
Danny needs to pick the one with the best shot and lend a hand.

Yup Pels have improved enough to get passed up by Phoenix as fourth worst team and most threatening tanker as well. Got to hope they have some addition by subtraction potential there. Two straight losses by Dallas though.

Lot of season left before the trade deadline, but if you're all down on this team, I'd be glad for us to slide into the lottery ourselves..
Re: Brooklyn, you don't offer them a pick back for Lopez, you offer some modification or revision, like the '18 pick becomes a '19 pick, or the '17 pick swap becomes protected 2-7..
Brooklyn's collapse, as I've said before, isn't inevitable, they're not Philly- they could easily win trades for Lopez or Joe Johnson, etc.

Would love those team to get Simmons, Ingram or Brown in the draft but the reality is that it probably won't happen. The Nets are just good enough to probably get the 5 th or 6th pick so I'm not opposed to trading the nets pick for an big time scorer

I'm still holding out hope the nets finish bottom 3. That loss was horrible but let's not kid ourselves here, that nets team is awful. Hats off to em, they compete every night and sure do try hard and defiantly out worked Boston last night but it doesn't change the fact that they just aren't that good. Even if the pick falls into the 4-8 range I still think the celtics have the ammo to move up to #2 for Ingram which would be just fine by me.

They do NOT have the ammo to move up from 6 to 2. NO WAY.
That being said, losing Jack for the year would be a big blow to the Nets. I am NOT cheering for this to happen. Just stating a fact. Jack has played beyond expectation and while inconsistent, has been good overall. He is a good guy by all accounts as well. So I am not cheering for this, but such a loss would be very bad for Nets.

Believing they'll get us a top 3 pick is the only way to make it through this season sane. Fighting for a chance to get swept in the first rd takes a toll on you after awhile.
