Re: Hassan Whiteside: Road To The Max
I don't think I will be able to take it if we lose this guy in FA.
Just max him an forget about it. Guy is a game changer.
Block shots are great, they take points off the board. But, that's not what I like the most. This guy alters everything at the rim. Probably the best help defender in the league.
No lie, Lebron an the cavs (or anyone in the playoffs not named GS)are gonna have a hard time vs us. Lebron hates driving at huge walls like Hibbert, and Whiteside is 10x better.
Add in that Lebron is shooting a league worst in jumpers. Well that's exactly what he is gonna get vs us. A plethora of jumpers with guys like Deng and Justise all over him.
I like our chances.

He was great in the second half with the blocks, he's a natural elite rim protector. But Gortat also got like 8 offensive boards when Hassan just looked lazy. His body language is just terrible sometimes, I would be very nervous if I was expecting someone with his on-court demeanor to be a leader of any team. He often pouts for no good reason or looks disinterested when things aren't going well for him. Luckily we don't need him to lead, but still if you're giving him a max money deal, it can't go unnoticed. Mentally, He's still less mature then 19YO Justise. And I'm talking all on-court stuff. Don't care about off court.
Not having a good motor isn't detrimental it just means that he doesn't have a role player mentality. Maybe he's less mature than Justise but he might have more talent than anybody on our team.
Also Gortat's offensive rebounds, I don't think Hassan just miraculously got lazy he just got tired. Hassan always starts off games strong. First quarters are generally his best rebounding quarters and then that starts to taper off as the game goes on. It's just him getting tired and not knowing how to properly pace himself.

Is Wade considered a high motor person?
Is Bosh considered a high motor person?
Was Shaq considered a high motor person?

You can't merely max a guy in fear of him leaving. What are we some chump organization!
Riles will get his way.
Unless we make a significant trade there's no way we win vs Cavs in the playoffs. We may take them to 7 games but i do not see us winning. Lebron will eventually fix his % issues. If Irving gets close to 100% that will be a tough and hungry team. We are hardly peckish as it is.
If u don't want 2b here, the way things work, u don't like it, then don't b here. U have 2 stand on something. If Miami ain't standing on something, they become alot of these organizations trying 2 find their identity. This is the culture, bro -Wade

Re: Hassan Whiteside: Road To The Max
He doesn't deserve the max IMO. You don't max someone that's becoming an artifact in the sport. We have to see if he offers us any tangible advantage down the stretch and in the postseason. Otherwise we'll must be tethering ourselves to the treadmill. Right now, I don't think we're good enough to beat the Cavs or win the East. This off season should be focused on making us contenders. I'm still on the side of analytics there. Get shooters and build around the wings. Bosh is paid like a centerpiece and we're great with him as our 5. Get another mobile big to spell him and move heaven and earth to get Durant here. Then recruit shooters and run the small ball system Spo wants. Indiana has a brick wall center that was a staunch defender, and even they've moved away from that mentality. The age of the dominant center is dead and buried until they move the 3pt line back. Until then, exploit that advantage. There's 50% more points out on the perimeter. That's where our focus needs to be.
Maybe sign Whiteside with the intention of moving him at next years deadline. That's my opinion. I believe in the numbers.

Re: Hassan Whiteside: Road To The Max
An offense that continuously generates open shots doesn't stink, sorry. It is being refined, but an offense basically in the upper 3rd of the league doesn't stink. I know you probably think you could run some post based offense through a non passing big and beat teams scoring 82 points like it's 1997, but the league doesn't work like that anymore.

Full max, not one single penny discounted. If we didnt offer Bosh that, he was gone.
Bosh had Max offers from many teams...
Whiteside will have max offers from many teams...

artifact in the sport?
the reason small ball worked is because the league had no good centers so there was no penalty to going small. we got a legit center. not just some big bodied bum. he's not an artifact.

He's no bum, but to fair non of us can say with certainty that Hassan will be able to consistently punish teams that go small on us.
It's possible that we'll have some huge games where Spo benchs him for that reason.

hopefully the knee is nothing. whiteside is only going to get better as he learns, especially when he matures. guys like howard are going to be getting 20mil. deandre, kanter, brook all getting close to 20mil.

I am also a tad concerned. McBob also has a bruised knee and it's 30 days later and we finally got to see him on the sidelines yesterday in his pimp suit.

Well, McBob bruised his surgically repaired knee which is a bit different but yeah, it is still a concern as it is knee related.

I'm not concerned at all about Whiteside. He'll be back and play fine. In the meantime we have enough to keep our game going, but he would really help (especially in Denver, Utah, & against the Clippers) so let's hope he's back sooner rather than later.

I dont think Whiteside injuries is serious, he will be back.
His absence may not be good in terms of winning games but I believe it will help the team in future games if his not on the court.

This is what I'm saying all along in this board, that the current roster will not just pass the Cavs. That is why I said Heat needs to add another big name free agent to go along with the current roster. Yes Whiteside should be paid but not for the max coz he will hinder the chance to add help this summer, aside that he's not worth the max. And knowing Riley, he wont just sit in his office without thinking how to improve the team.Unless we make a significant trade there's no way we win vs Cavs in the playoffs. We may take them to 7 games but i do not see us winning. Lebron will eventually fix his % issues. If Irving gets close to 100% that will be a tough and hungry team. We are hardly peckish as it is.
