Can't believe some of you got the unmitigated gall to talk about if it's premature of Cho to sign Lamb to 7mil per for 3 years when he's been one of the best scoring guards off the bench in the entire NBA. The guy is averaging 11 points in 23 minutes with the best FG% among our guards and a 18 PER. That's a damn godsend for this team as miserable as we've been at the wing position the past half a decade. Lamb is basically averaging what Hendo did in 30+ minutes.

Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
I understand the concern that Jeremy has only converted a quarter of his threes since the start of December- it's concerning.
But despite the struggles, he's been terrific inside the arc. Hell, he's been elite inside the arc this season. The only other players who have played as many minutes as he has and have a greater FG% inside the arc are Steph Curry, LeBron James, Andre Iguodala, Andre Roberson, and Thabo Sefolosha. Calderon, Mills, Giannis, Korver, Parker, and Afflalo are right behind him.
Once his three ball is falling again, he'll be balling like he did early in the year but he needs to find his shot ASAP

hendo wasn't a layup line on the other end
you almost made me miss henderson for a second reading all that...
but despite me crapping on the dude for being one of the main reasons that the 2nd unit's offense has become much, much less efficient with his ballstopping i DO like him. but maybe by playing for a contract, he'd play with a bit of consistency too.
you don't buy a car without a test drive. same concept - why sign a guy without seeing him play for your organization for a while? i'd feel so much better about the entire situation if he wasn't already set to count his money regardless.

Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
Still one of the better scoring bench wings in the league and he's only 23. Need to be congratulating Cho on foreseeing it instead of complaining about if it was the right move. Whether his defense is bad or not he still have one of the better defensive ratings on the team, actually top 3 among rotational players, so it's not like he's ruining us on that end of the floor.
Need to be complaining more about Hairston's negative net ratings and horrible defensive rating. I don't care how hard it look like Hairston is trying on the defensive end, he gets torched night in and night out.

Is he really? How is he shooting less than 40% from the field in December than, are that high of a % of his shots 3s?

He's shooting 41.3% FG, so not really below 40%. He's shot roughly 1/3 of his shots from three. His 2PT FG% in December was 48.8% on 4.7 attempts, still quite good but way below his November % of 63.2% on 6.3 attempts.
I'm not convinced that we'll see a significant bounce in his 3PT% this season. Even when he was balling out in November he only shot 33.9% from three. The highest % he's ever shot in a season is 35.6%. He hasn't proven himself to be an elite 3PT shooter at this point in his career, though given his midrange game the potential is obviously there.

Your strange obsession with PJ will never allow me to take anything you say about Lamb serious. Signing him was a gamble that the organization was willing to take. They saw a lot of him in practice and pre season where they figured with consistent minutes he will improve a lot. They didn't want to have to get into a bidding war for him after the season is over and probably loose him. Once the salary jumps up and he has a year or 2 of actual consistent minutes he will end up being vastly underpaid.

Ok, thats a little better than I thought, but i'm not really anti Jeremy Lamb, I think potentially he could still become a viable player,I just oppose that we resigned him before seeing him play more than 10 games.

Potentially become a viable player? He's 5th on the team in win shares, 3rd in PER, 2nd in PIE%, and is the most efficient scorer among wing players. There's no potentially about it. Lamb 'is a viable player' to the Hornets

Yeah, I could have worded that better, for 7 million dollars a year I just want Lamb to be consistent he can't be amazing for a month then take a month off, maybe going into 2018 Lamb puts it all together and this contract looks like a joke, but right now I think its a slight overpay if he is going to continue to be so erratic.

I'm telling you, I don't understand them. PJ have a couple games he finally score over 10, just a couple, and they start complaining about Cho not exercising his contract talking about fearing not being able to re-sign him. Look at PJ's stats, he stink, and we stink as a team whenever he's on the floor. Our defense stink with PJ on the floor. He doesn't contribute to our offense. The list go on of bad for PJ.
But here we got Lamb and they bitch about everything from his shooting to his defense even though he's been one of our better players all season. Just as good as Lin if not better if we're looking at stats, advanced or raw.

Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
I mean if you ignore their contract situations, that is a fair argument. It's not exactly comparing apples to apples to express concern about committing $21M to Lamb who had never played a regular season game for us while deciding that a one year, $1M deal was too rich for a player that we drafted in the first round a year ago.
I'm not upset about Lamb's contract or about giving PJ the tough love treatment, but it's a valid critique IMO.

Nothing valid about comparing a wing player that has the worst net and defensive rating on the team to a wing player that has one of the best net and defensive ratings on the team. Lol. Not at all. I want to name call but I know I'm on the ledge of suspension for telling the truth.

Nothing valid about comparing a wing player that's shooting 47% to a wing player that's shooting 35%. Lol
Nothing valid about comparing a wing player that average 18 pts per 36 to a wing player that average 12 pts per 36. Lol
Then I know y'all are gonna wanna throw defense into the equation. Lol. Don't make me laugh. Hairston has the worst defensive rating on the entire team. He try hard and die hard. Effort don't equal results.

If you were "on the ledge of suspension" it would be due of your tone and failure to engage in good faith discussion without name calling and mocking. There is no reason you should feel unable to express your point of view or opinion as long as you do so respectfully.
And as to the substance of your post, the decision about PJ's and Lamb's contracts were made before any of those advanced stats were available so they don't really contradict the criticisms that I mentioned.

I view it as a wise decision by Cho, nothing more and nothing less. The numbers support Cho knowing what was what. End of discussion. Nothing valid about the comparison when Hairston has been nothing but a joke with and without consistent playing time.

Even if I agreed that they aren't similar caliber of players, saying that it wasn't worth $1M to retain PJ because Lamb is worth his money just doesn't make sense. There shouldn't be a comparison between the two - they are completely different situations and have completely different roles.

Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
Way I see it, Cho factored in the salary raise and took a calculated risk on signing Lamb. That's what he gets paid to do and it looks like he made the right decision. Currently Spencer Hawes is being paid more than twice the amount as Lamb this season. His contact won't start untill next season when the NBA salary cap jumps 22 million and by the 2017-18 season it will be 108 million compared to the 67 million cap right now. Anyone complaining about the Lamb contact clearly has no idea about the salary cap increases coming in the next 2 years. This contact will end up being a steal for the Hornets.

We needed the roster spot to sign somebody worth a damn whether it was $1M or $10M. I'm happy we didn't retain him. Time to move on and let bygones be bygones next year.

Lamb said he would have played yesterday when he was "doubtful". He said it would have hurt, but everybody is banged up in the league now and you just go out there and play. Lamb's interviews have gone from bad to good. He interviews pretty well now.
