Guy is improving. This is a thread for him. He deserves it. You can say we won because of him in the Boston game. He's better than how he started. Could he continue to get better? That contract doesn't seem so bad right now

still think he's overpaid and pachulia would've been the better choice

but he's playing well right now, hope he keeps it up

Have to admit. He was the one Piston I found myself shaking my head at the most this year, but he has played very well recently

I'm starting to come around to him, He's gotta put some glue on those hands though.

Zaza is killing it and would have been about 1000x better than Baynes

So would Biyombo

Another dud signing by SVG, just like Meeks, Cartier Martin.

lmao^ I love good laughs

Your seeing Baynes now with a competent PG to play with as well as getting up to speed and finding his place in the 2nd unit..remember he had surgery and missed most of camp and pre season..so no surprise at his slow start..

Was fine with the signing and still am.

Gortat himself gives a lot of credit to SVG's faculty of developing him. I'm thinking Baynes will get better. He's got fundamentals. If he catches the ball more often, he'll get one or two better possessions. I think he'll still get better specially with Jennings playing

Tiago, Zaza, and Biyombo all would've been great. Even Kosta Koufos.

But he had a good night tonight, finally got that contract deserved for one night.

I think later the same will be said about Baynes. Those guys ha to develop into what they are now too

It'd be cool to see him shoot that Tim Duncan bank shot more. I know a lot of people hate it, but it's probably efficient, he looked doing it too

It's a high percentage shot if you know how to do it. There's a reason Duncan is called Mr Fundamental. Whatever he does it's efficient and the glass shot is efficient if done correctly.

Tiago was traded and RC has a better relationship with the Hawks than us. Pachulia is a vet and am sure would've chose the Mavs regardless.

Its no surprise hes playing better with jennings out there as well. Some players take alot longer to come around then others and this is obviously the case with Baynes.

It's one game. We overpaid for a meh backup.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Incorrect. Its now been 4 straight games he has had a positive impact on the game when hes in. This is of course due in large part to having a starting Point Guard in Brandon Jennings running the show and utilizing Baynes in the correct way instead of Blake or nightmare Dinwiddie.

I know he has played beyond poorly but lets give him due when he does indeed deserve it and he has played very well the past 4 games.

So its been four straight games having a positive impact and for context before these last four games he was only a positive net 9 times in 32 games.

Jennings has made the bench an asset.

This...

One game does not equate to $8m per. We could have had Bismack who's impact defensively and on the boards I believe would be much greater than Baynes. I'm from Australia and even I hated this signing.

I think SVG signed him and not a Biyombo-like player because of Baynes FT% (not so good this year) and ability in the offensive end.

Still overpaid.

I'd much rather him shoot 12 footers than him to have carte blanche on the block. He shouldn't be posted up, he needs to get more pick and pop/roll opportunities.
