D-League Showcase = Our next Great White?

Post#1 » by Temuhjan » Thu Jan 7, 2016 4:14 am

For five days this week, NBA eyes will shift to the NBA Development League. Teams can begin signing players to 10-day contracts on Jan. 5; the NBA D-League Showcase, the minor league’s premier in-season scouting event, takes place from Jan. 6-10. It’s the one time of year when all 19 NBADL teams and all 200+ prospects will be playing in one location — Santa Cruz, Calif., for the second straight year — one representative from each of the 30 NBA teams will be in attendance.

Last season, a record 47 D-League prospects received call-ups, including Iowa Energy center Hassan Whiteside (Miami Heat), Westchester Knicks guard Langston Galloway (New York Knicks) and Grand Rapids Drive No. 1 overall draft pick Robert Covington (Philadephia 76ers). Who would you like FO to sign to a 10-day contract? Can we discover another gem from the D-League this season?

I voted for Roberts & Hobson, but the truth is I don't see much in this list. There are other players I'd suggest including Bryce Cotton (a guard), Chris Walker (a forward), Perry Jones III (a forward), and (especially) Vincent Hunter. I might want to look at Jordan Bachynski too, the center from Arizona (all defensive player of the PAC-12).

I was just about to post about Putney. I keep seeng him putting up big numbers and I didn't know he could shoot threes until today's 5 threes in the first half explosion.

He's averaging 19.7 pts, 9.6 reb, 3 blk, 1 stl, 38.6% from 3 on 7.3 attempts :o Last season he shot 43% on 2 attempts in 9.8 mpg. He's like Khem Birch and Shawne Williams had a baby. Maybe I'm overreacting; I tend to get excited.

Edit: After todays game he's averaging 40% from 3 on 7.5 attempts. Also 20.6 pts, 10 reb. I hope Chet and Adam have been scouting this guy.

I voted Walker and Putney, but Jones III is closer. It's a pity Vince Hunter can't shoot 3s. Both Walker and Putney can be signed under Tyler Johnson's conditions because they've not played for another NBA team.
