Hassan Whiteside

Post#1 » by basketballwacko2 » Fri Jan 8, 2016 9:58 am

I'd like to have Whiteside in a Pacers uniform. Can you imagine next year having him at center, Miles Turner at pf, PG at sf, Monta at sg, and George Hill at point!! The inside out defense would be pretty tough.

What would it take to get Whiteside in a Pacer uniform? According to the wire tap story he's likely to leave the Heat. Could a deal be struck or should the Pacers just wait and try to sign him outright, they'll have the cap space.

I'm still not sold on him and would not want to invest 20 mil a year in him going forward.

If that's what it's gonna take to sign him that would be a huge risk. I'd offer him 3yr $12 million with a team option in yr 3 if that's legal. I'm not sure if it is. Kinda like the deal the Hornets gave Lance.

He's going to get offers significantly higher than that, especially with all of the cap space that will be open next summer.

He seems to get hurt a lot, that's my biggest concern. I'm sure he will get paid quite well.

I love his story and his comeback since last year. For some reason, I see him coasting more once he gets his deal.

I have no reason why I think that and maybe going from potentially lottery pick to bouncing around overseas and the D-League for a while has humbled him. For a guy with an obvious skill set though, that $20m+ a year is what it will take. It is what it is

He's going to get a max contract. No doubt. Most every team is going to have max cap space, and he's one of the few guys worth spending on that are unlikely to return to their current teams and unrestricted.

OK so Whiteside is a max how much money is a max for him next season? And does anyone think we'll go after him?

We are gonna have money to spend that we need to spend on someone. If he is the best player available, there is no reason not to grab him. He is motivated, and Bird likes that. It will also weaken a conference rival while making us better. That said, he also doesnt like to overpay.

Spending huge money on Whiteside when you have Miles Turner seems akin to what Philly is doing with Noel, Okerfer and Embid. I'd look to upgrade another position with our new cap space. Ian Mahamni would be a more than adequate place holder and key rotation player once Turner takes over the position.

With a projected salary cap of $89m for next season, he'd be at around $21-22m in his first year. Around/just under a 4 yr/$100m deal.

Depending on where our 1st round pick slots, right now, we'd be looking at around $27-28m in cap space at an $89m cap, with cap holds on Ian Mahinmi at $7.6m (until we did something with him), Jordan Hill at $4.8m, Chase Budinger at $9.5m (clearly, to be renounced), and Solo Hill at $2.3m. We would again also be limited to the room exception (next year, $2.9m) after we hit the salary cap.

I'd much much rather go after Horford and try to sell him on never having to play center again with Turner and hopefully Ian back. I had also been hoping we'd go after Ryan Anderson, but after seeing what people are willing to pay him on here, I'm not so sure of that.

If Bird sees Turner as a PF, it'd be interesting to try and get Biyombo on the cheap as a backup center and see what Vogel can do with him.

Overall with Whiteside I'm just not sold that he's worth 20 mil, or really close to it. Great counting stats for about a year now, but pretty poor advanced stats and the whole history thing.

Ryan Anderson is the right fit for wanting to play with a legit stretch 4. That defense though....

Hi guys. Heat fan, here. No clue why anyone thinks he won't be back in Miami. We love the guy. Windhorst is taking a shot in the dark here from what I've heard. Miami is the team that gave him his start, they have the space to sign him, and the desire to. I don't think he's leaving, but if he does it will be for the max.

Agreed. I think all the assumptions that he's "leaving" exist solely around Riley wanting to swing for the fences on a Durant like signing, and the understanding that there's simply no way that all 3 of Wade, Durant, and Whiteside could be signed in Miami. That's it.

I would think the Heat would resign him, the story was talking about them not having Bird rights.

They have cap space, though. And they likely have the cap space to keep Wade and Whiteside. The only trouble is if they try and get cute and add a Durant or other big money outside free agent. Then they run the risk of possibly burning a bridge with either of Wade or Whiteside.

I think Durant stays with OKC unless something crazy happens. The problem with OKC is as good as they are can they beat the Warriors or the Spurs?

With Turner starting at PF now, we are one step closer to this being a possibility. Just saying.

IDK about giving Whiteside $18 million. That's a huge risk.
