There's a chance the Nets finishes with the 2nd worst record overall.

Just need the Lakers and a few other teams to win a few more games...

Probably a better chance they pass the Suns and Pelicans and finish 5th

Seriously. They would be 8 and 28! Half a game ahead of the Lakers who seem to be growing with every game. We suck. :nonono:

We "gave" them two wins. And they lost Jack for the season.

This is the world we live in. We still have their pick for years. Our glass is more than half full.

I think the Nets will pass the Lakers. They are playing better basketball.

The Lakers are not that bad of a team. They have some solid players in Williams, Bass, Clarkson, Randle, Russell. If they had a better coach, maybe they would be fighting for a playoff spot.

So do I. I also think philly has an outside chance of catching them too with their recent acquisition of Ish Smith. RHJ is the nets only saving grace this season at this point

If I have it right, this is what we have as of the standings today:

#3 - from Brooklyn
#14 - Own
#20 - from Dallas
#31 - from Philadelphia
#35 - from Minnesota
#47 - from Memphis
#54 - from Miami
#58 - from Cleveland

So, 8 total picks. The 5 seconds look like a lock to convey at this point. None of those teams are going to move enough in the standings to change their position.

That is about 4 or 5 picks too many. With three rookies already on the roster and other young guys, something has to give. You can't stash that many guys overseas.

Trading up looks like a very real option to me. If the celtics can get back into the latter half of the lottery and come away with Poeltl I'd be estatic. Throw a max offer at Whiteside and you're looking at

Whiteside/Poeltl
KO/Mickey
Crowder/Ingram(assuming the nets pick is #2 overall
Bradley/Hunter
Smart/IT/Rozier

I can live with that

While I would be annoyed at having to just toss value into the bin, the worst case scenario here probably isn't too awful.

Say you just don't want to sign more than 3 kids, and you can't find any player-trades of consequence worth making. Then, the worst case probably looks something like a.) just not signing the players picked at 47, 54 and 58 (maybe you can stash 47?), and b.) using 14, 20, and 35 to move up however much you can, even if it's only a couple spots. Now you're picking at say #3, #11, and #31.

I'm a little afraid that that's exactly what we're going to see happen. But, it wouldn't drive me to autodefenstrate.

An alternative to moving up is flipping a pick for a future pick with upside. For instance, flipping the Dallas pick for a pick similar to the Memphis pick that won't convey for several years, but has the potential to be a very good pick. Or maybe flipping 35 for a very protected 1st that would turn into 2 seconds if not conveyed.

Yup, and you can also do it with current players to make space for the new picks, if need be.

Even though Danny has a ton of assets to form a kind of glut, they still have real value. Teams will want them. They might try to get him to overpay, but if he waits, he can probably get (close to) fair value. For future picks, etc.
I'm totally on board with overpaying to get a top 50 player.

Put another L in the Nets loss column. They made a run in the 3rd Q, but this one never felt in doubt. Now a season worse 17 games under .500 and a game with the Spurs looming on Monday.

Said as much yesterday. It's exactly what they should do. A much better chance to increase value than overpaying for slobs like Gallo.

The Nets would win 40+ if they played us every night.

Utah got Gobert back and beat Miami. Will be better once Favors comes back. Any chance the Kings, Jazz, Rockets, and Grizzlies all overtake Dallas?

Spurs vs Nets lol.

That will not be pretty. 20 point blowout at minimum.

I'm hoping this stretch brings them close to .500.
