Is there any non NBA2K way to acquire Ibaka?
I hear a lot about Horford and Batum being 1a & 1b in free agency to put the Pistons in the class of contenders but I think Ibaka would be by far the best long term fit. His combo of three point range and rim protecting is rare.
If OKC fails again this year, who knows what the new strategy will be moving forward.
I don't view them in the same tier of teams as Golden State, Cleavland & San Antonio and I can see them taking a long hard look in the mirror when this season ends in determining how they want to reload with KD as a free agent.
So again I ask, Is there any non NBA2K way to acquire Ibaka without altering the current core?

I would assume ditching Ibaka would be a push out the door for Durant and Westbrook, and OKC definitely doesn't want to do that. So, no, I can't see any way that happens.

Re: Is there any non NBA2K way to acquire Ibaka?
I'd throw big money at Ibaka just for those two things to play next to Drummond. I'm predicting OKC will lose Durant and Westbrook both this offseason and that way Ibaka will also leave. He's definitely worth the money to spend on. Would he take us to contention? Yeah maybe. But Horford is better and it's more likely that he'd take us there. This is all assumption though. Free agents don't come here. I think it'll have to be through trade and I think our management is capable of pulling ONE more trade to take us to the next level.

Westbrook isn't a free agent until after next season but you see how that team looked without KD last season.
What do you like better about Horford? Beside putting up more shots and having a more developed post game I think Ibaka wins in all other categories.
Ibaka is a better defender, younger and won't need to clog the paint so Andre can be effective.

I think the three things I'm sold on Ibaka more than Horford is his blocking, 3pt shot, and his age. What I like more about Horford is his playmaking ability. Clearly, the team needs one more playmaker in the starting lineup. We have him but he's a rookie. If we get Horford, he'll speed up our team building by 2-3 years. It would be like the Sheed addition or Aldridge to the Spurs. It's necessary to speed up the process instead of taking a step back and getting a younger guy who does other good things but can't put that shot up when it counts. Horford can. The only way I see Ibaka being a better fit on our team is if Stanley suddenly blew up and became a scoring machine.

Make the playoffs, ideally 2nd round (not improbable if the 1st round opponent is CHI/TOR/MIA). That will make Detroit a more attractive FA destination. Success breeds success. Just ask the small market team that is the Spurs.

Obtaining Ibaka would be easy. Just wait til the summer of 2017 and sign him. Duh!

Durant leaves. Realize we might have to take Kyle Singler back in any trade package.

NO. He is among my group of ex pistons that just drove me out of my mind. The horror of that thought just gave me chills. On the other hand, if we exchange Dinwiddie in that package I could at least stomach it...chrbal wrote:Durant leaves. Realize we might have to take Kyle Singler back in any trade package.

We shouldn't trade for him since there is no guarantee we could keep him.

Short anwser; no, no way. OKC want to have a good year in hopes of retaining Durant. While I'm at it, the Bulls and their fans are very enamored of Portis and won't be trading him anytime soon. This, of course, is an IMO.

Re: Is there any non NBA2K way to acquire Ibaka?
If Durant does the unexpected and leaves, Ibaka could certainly be open to leaving as well. Obviously, he'd be a fantastic fit for Detroit. He's the type of player that's a fit on every team though. He doesn't have a high usage, hits open shots, and defends the rim.

I like Ibaka, but he won't be worth quite as much to us as we already have a rim protector.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Miss the play-offs by one game, win the lottery and trade Ben Simmons for him once Durant signs with LA Lakers?

Presti has an aneurysm and trade Ibaka to us instead of Kyle Singler.
That's the only plausible way I can think of. That or tank so hard for a high draft pick and include SJ/Morris in a trade. That'd be idiotic though.

LOL... You're right about Singler. He drove me crazy as well! Having him start for your favorite NBA team is a living hell... I wouldn't even want him on the roster as the sight of him makes me sick. I feel bad for OKC that they have him for another 4 seasons at 5M per.

I was actually thinking in the offseason after they fail again and are ready for change. It was more a thought of wanting him rather than Horford.

I think your joking but just to clarify... If they draft Ben Simmons they keep him no questions asked. No Wiggins style trades.
