Summer 2016 Early Edition

If you havent read the GBB article, i recommend it http://www.grizzlybearblues.com/2016/1/11/10745700/what-the-grizzlies-future-means-for-today, they make some very good points, so I will be playing off that.

On contract:
Gasol, ZBo, Allen, Jamychal Green, Ennis, Adams, Martin, Wright, Carter (lets not be so hasty to cut him with rising cap) - thats 9 guys

What they are explaining is renouncing our FA (Jeff Green *PLEASE* , Lee *Meh*, Chalmers *Okay*)

Something you notice about Memphis here though is they have some young guys Joeger likes/trusts like Jamychal Green, dont see Memphis needing another roster spot so probably see Ennis stick on the roster, and he seems to believe in Jordan Adams whenever the kid gets healthy.

So on to the offseason moves:
Available Cap room 19m roughly that is including all cap holds like conley

I was never a big advocate for getting Fornier, I would liken his game much to Marco Bellinelli or Danny Green, but there is no denying he is a consistent player and a solid floor spacer who can play with clogged lanes and Memphis needs more of that. So the proposition was to give him all 19M with a trade kicker so Orlando wouldnt want to retain him. I think that is a very solid option, definitely an overpay but lets break down the rest of the offseason.

We will most likely have a pick around #17-19 this year, and we also have a late second round pick via Toronto, and with conley and fournier we have 11 guys on the roster leaving 4 roster spots , 2 of which could be draft picks and one more explained below.

So Memphis is testing the waters on Elliot Williams, havent seen much out of him yet, but lets conclude that he or someone else (preferably one combo guard named Erik Green) is on the roster as well come next season.

I dont care about front office, Im not high on Martin and I dont think he fits the mould of what Memphis is trying to build for the future, I think you trade him to a Brooklyn team who could use cheap prospects, especially in the position he plays, trade him for Barganani (gets us some depth at low cost) , and swap the TOR 2016 second for the Brooklyn second this year (Estimated 33-36 range)

Draft DAY!
Picks owned:
Pick 18ish
Pick 34ish

Pick 18: The Memphis Grizzlies Select Melo Trimble 21 yr old 6-3 point guard out of Maryland University!

Pros: Great shooter from range, good at playing a very Mario Chalmers-esque role off the bench playing both with and without the ball. He is very good at slashing the lane and getting to the bucket and drawing the foul, shooting about 88% from FT line. He is a great ball handler and doesnt turn the ball over alot compared to his usage, shoots 42% from behind the arc, averages about 4 Rebounds a game.

Cons: More of a scoring guard less of a facilitating guard, despite averaging 6 assist a game, needs to work on playing with the ball in his hand more and work on leadership skills on the court calling plays. He also isnt a big shot blocker, albeit able to stay infront of his man well.

Pick 34: The Memphis Grizzlies Select Brice Johnson (if he is still on the board, who knows) 22 Yr old 6-9 PF out of UNC!

Pros: We need a guy to play that grind it out basketball for when Z-bo retires, Johnson plays a very similar game to Z-bo, he pulls down 4.5 ORB a game and is a good Rebounder overall, has a nice touch around the rim, he isnt flashy, isnt the best passer, but he can finish a lot of shots around the rim, good defense, even a bit on the perimeter which Z-bo struggles with, consistent shot from 12-15 feet as well, very fundamental grind it out player.

Cons: He doesnt have a lot of different flashy moves around the rim, can get a bit predictable, he isnt the strongest guy, he can back down in the post, but against a strong NBA Center he might struggle backing down in the post. He isnt the most flashy player, he doesnt do alleyoops or run the fast break often, just grinds out ugly, but efficient buckets. He struggles a bit with Pick and Roll Defense being a step slow, but with coaching on where to be should be able to improve.

So now we have:
Conley(34)/Trimble(15)/Erick Green (8)
Fournier (34)/Adams (15)
Allen (20) /Ennis (15)/Carter (0)
Jamychal Green (25)* /Z-Bo(25)/ Johnson (0)
Gasol(34)/Wright(15)/Barg (0)

*Green going to see some lineups playing SF or C for short stretches in the game (5 mins)

so we have 1 roster spot available with roughly a 2.5M 2 year biannual we can use.

So we could sit on this and be content, or we could sign an old guy basically. I'd sit on the roster spot and play these smaller younger lineups.
