we have few picks. we have few good players..... if we get barnes and he proves to just be a role player we are in the same spot only with no cap room as well.
i dont like that gamble based on what ive seen from barnes. i dont see primary 1-2 option from him
I'm in similar boat as you.
I feel like he could be the Lopez of SFs, meaning he might disappear when we need him and not really a 1A option.
If we get Barnes then I want to move Lopez for something like Whiteside/Deng.

They pretty much grade HB like I have been (outside of some really outrageous posts). I see 17-18ppg/7rpg/3apg solid clip from deep. Is that something you want to ideally pay 20 mil for? In the post TV deal era, it will be the norm.
He's not a superstar, and he's not a scrub either. But the reality is, yeah Mikhail wants a superstar but we're not getting one because we suck balls and we have no picks.
They are going to overpay on the wing and at PG, and fill in the blanks from there. You hope that C-MacC develops, RHJ continues to develop, etc.
Unfortunately, this is what we'll have to deal with.

This post is beyond dumb. Can Michael Jordan play like Shaq? That's the equivalent of the Harden/Barnes comparison. Harden is a Point Forward while Barnes is more of a Combo Forward.
People keep calling him a corner 3 point shooter like he doesnt have one of the best jumpers for a big in the NBA. He is the 3rd/4th option on Golden State and that is his role with them. People are acting like he cant do anything else because he has failed in those roles. NO he is stuck in that role because Curry (Top PG), Thompson (Top SG), Green (Top PF) all operate the pick and roll from the top and they need Barnes to occupy the corners for floor spacing. His job is to backscreen on the weak side for whoever the is running through screens and to roll into an open space, usually the corner. Saying that is the limits to his game is beyond foolish. All of the simpltons who are comparing him to Harden and dont like him because they cant drive to the basket with him in some video game dont know basketball.
People mistake an elite scorer with someone who takes a lot of shots. It's the Brook Lopez syndrome. People look at the box score and see so and so had 20 points therefor he had a good game but dont see how many shots it took him to get there. Barnes has a 59.1% True Shooting % because he knows how and when he should shoot. He only has a 17.6 Usage rate because of the roster he is on. Put him on a team with less talent and he takes more shots and scores more points. Regardless of if he is taking shots or not, he is always a threat and defenses need to stick to him when he doesnt have the ball. As we have seen this year, the absence of that threat makes offense difficult to run.
Barnes is never going to be the #1 guy but he is an ideal #2. #2 options still get max contracts in the NBA.

I got to disagree with you again on this. I only want Barnes if we keep Lopez. Winning with Lopez is a pain in the azz and requires certain types of players. High usage wings like Pierce and Joe never played well with Lopez. We really only had 1 winning season with Lopez healthy and that was when we surrounded him with to low usage players like Wallace and Evans.
Part of why Thad is successful next to Lopez is because he knows how to move without the ball. He has a lot of points in the paint this year but it's not because he is posting up. Most of his touches come from playing the angles created by the attention Lopez generates and cutting towards the rim. Barnes is a similar type player in that he gets his touches by playing off the attention others generate on offense. He finds the voids created by Curry and Thompson and it leads to open looks. RHJ looks to be cut from the same cloth so all we need is a ball dominate PG who can run PnR.

NS -- Do you see RHJ as more of a SG or SF? Would it make sense to have both Jefferson and Barnes?
And for sake of argument if we sign Barnes and keep Brook, who would you want to play PG with a RHJ, Banes, Young, Lopez squad?

RHJ can defend either wing spot. The title of SG/SF is meaningless for a player like that.

I'm thinking more of offense... how good is RHJ at spotting up and taking 3s? You need to have a SG that can knock down a few each night... and we severely need that going forward.

barnes doesnt get you to the playoffs imo. im fine overpaying, but i want to overpay for someone who gets me to the 6-8 seed at least. someone like derozan or horford

Nets are interviewing.....
Barnes is a piece. He doesn't have to be the face of the franchise. We have to build. We lack talent in tons of areas. He's not going to command the same level of money people are expecting. Barnes is capable of breaking out but I see him as Loul Deng 2.0. Nothing wrong with that either. We desperately need shooting on the perimeter. He adds that. He adds rebounding, athleticism and the ability to go small. He's the best candidate to replace Joe Johnson and he's 23. The coach who we higher will have a TON of emphasis on internal development. You hire someone with the ability to develop talent and sign someone capable of developing into an All-Star? I don't see how we can act like that isn't a good idea.

You keep him at SG as long as you can. I always prefer to have a bigger player at a position as long as he doesnt lose matchups based on athleticism. RHJ as a SF is still a very good defender but as a SG he is unique.

As long as the other wing can score/shoot we'll be fine.

the problem is almost every team has money for 1 near max slot so the nets are going to have to sell someone by letting them know they will be the 1a or 1b option
which i think is why they have a shot at barnes
i think beal would be a better player but washington would match any offer if they dont get durant
Jordan clarkson to me is an intriguing option

I'm seriously impatient... The next three months are going to be torture watching this team with no rudder while we wait to hire our GM and coach. Even if it's Cal, I imagine we have to wait til April, once the tourney is over.

Its seriously hard to watch how sick Porzingis is, how ballsy, alpha and aggressive he is in the 4th qtr of a game and ever have any hope of this team competing with Brook Lopez, who is a pussy and a coward.
Cut bait and trade him.

Well, here's the interesting thing.
If Beal signs an offer sheet, the Wizards have 3 days to match. If a team gets Beal to sign an offer sheet as soon as free agency opens, it puts pressure on the Wizards to decide if they want to match or wait to see Durant's decision.
However, this is all moot if Washington intends to give Beal a max extension anyway as well as pursue Durant with a max contract.

I laughed to myself when I read comments from the blog suggesting that Porzingis isn't better than Brook.
Even if you don't think Porzingis is better at this moment, you'd have to be blind as a bat or an extreme homer to not see how Porzingis' potential blows Brook's out of the water.
He spaces the floor with his 3pt shooting right now. His shotblocking ability is great and he's already good at help defense from the weak side.
