Start with Jrue and Davis. That's a good starting point as any for a newly hired GM. Alvin Gentry can stay too, since he never had the personnel to run the 7SOL offense.

The problem isn't not having the personnel to run the 7SOL offense. The problem is wanting to run that stupid offense in the first place. It's also stupid to take a superstar PF who is dynamite from the mid post/elbow area and the first thing you want to do is turn him into more of a 3pt shooter.

I think it's less the "forced" offense, rather, I think Gentry wants Davis to be a super-Amare from his Suns days. Which is a good start as any. And Jrue as a lesser Nash.

I can't really fault Gentry for having that crazy vision for his system.

But what it does to the defense of a team running it is just reduce it to "the 24 secones between offensive possessions".

It seems like a very interesting time for the news and good luck to him if it does happen. I think I would rather do a complete search, hire a firm (just like how we did) and find out all the potential moves. Sure, Dumars has a track record and you would rather have him then a Billy King, but ... really? What if you could get someone better? Someone who has been waiting or stuck in an organization, or is young and visionary?
Anyway, being in a market like NO, Dumars better be smart with his money. Hopefully, he has learned something about fit and where the NBA is headed.

I wish him the best if true. I also hope they do well, except for when they play us.

I can see Anthony Davis leaving for a larger market when his contract is up. Joe has until then to win a title.. Haha..

Zarren from the Celtics might have had a better chance if McDonough had a better 18 months with Phoenix...

I'm not well versed in assistant GMs looking for a promotion though

Reading these two sentences together leads me to "another amnesty clause", which Joe was unprepared for twice.
