i feel like im always the devils advocate but

kidd was coming off hitting his wife i doubt if that happens kidd ends up in NJ

Also kidd benefited from a healthy vanhorn, a recovered kmart and for the first time in his career kittles being consistently healthy

not to mention rookies richard jefferson and jason collins

Marbury never had that team around him so its not really fair to say kidd took the same team to the finals

I was upset for weeks after we traded Marbury. Marbury was one of my favorite players. On paper, Marbury was the better piece. We are lucky that Kidd worked out because like you said, Kidd was damaged goods when we got him.

I'm really hoping this is a smoke screen or a ploy for Calipari to negotiate. I do not want Colangelo at all. Was awful in Toronto, and that bargnani pick just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I also don't want Thibs or Mark Jackson, as they remind me too much of Lionel Hollins (inflexible coaches stuck in their ways, who can rub players the wrong way).

Someone like Brad Stevens would be pretty amazing for the Nets. I'm sure there's more young coaches like him in college basketball.

I'm mixed on Colangelo, on one hand he put together that Suns team which was one of the most explosive teams in the league and ushered in the current era of basketball. On the other hand, yeah he drafted Bargs but to be fair the 2006 draft was one of the worst drafts of the 21st century NBA, you can literally name the good players in that draft on one hand.

I won't be disappointed if they pick him.

He was hardly awful. His biggest mistake was his loyalty to Bargnani but he's responsible for where the Raptors currently stand. Masai did not do anything significant there except trade Rudy Gay and sign DeMarre Carroll.

yeah, this guy takes a crap on Billy King. Look at this and then compare this to King's resume.

Thanks for all this.

His moves look mostly good in hindsight too. Looks like he's smart with trading picks.... something we shudder to think about when it comes to King. Also looks like he has a good record in drafting players (Bargs being the exception).

As long as we have a competent GM who (A) understands he's walking into a bad situation for the next 3-5, (B) realizes he needs to create a watchable/competitive team until then, while (C) without mortgaging anymore of the future, then that's great.

I can't wait for the next chapter in the Nets franchise to begin next year.

Anyone trying to justify Colangelos moves are simply being nice.

He made terrible decision after terrible decision.

He traded for a washed up Jermaine Oneal, and then traded him away for Shawn Marions expiring. He signed Hedo Turkoglu to a horrible contract after that.

He let Bosh walk for nothing, when it was obvious to everyone that he wasn't going to resign. In fact, the Miami cap space they used to sign Bosh was the expiring Jermaine Oneal contract.

He hired Jay Triano as a head coach.

He spends recklessly, and basically just built a bunch of crap teams. He couldn't put a star next to Bosh, who was a 25/11 player at the time.

We all thought he built the Suns team, but anyone who looks into that knows that it was Jerry who built that Suns team.

yeah but he drafted most of your current core.

you have to remember, we're coming off of being managed by the worst GM in the history of professional basketball. Colangelo looks like a god to us with his resume

Random chance. Dude also drafted Bargs first and drafted Ross over Andre freakin Drummond. The only pick I attribute to him making a real choice that turned out well was Derozen. Val was in the same boat as TT/Kanter and Colangelo was gonna pick whichever one of them was left.

Dude's a bad GM, no point rationalizing it just because a few of his moves turned out well.

colangelo is a risk taker. he's a decent drafter. he's also a company man and players like him. he's a wheeler & dealer and after bosh left, he basically made the raptors starting 5 the past 3 years. his biggest criticism was not drafting bargnani, but sticking with him for so long.

you guys don't really have draft picks to rebuild with, so you need someone that can do deals and that can sign FA's. that's colangelo.

cleveland wanted val - colangelo got his agent to force his way to toronto.
ross over drummond was just bad.
derozan turned out to be a great draft pick.
we also dealt a pick for lowry (which ended up 13th in a weak draft) and he's been a stud.

There is no such thing as a perfect one either. The Warriors took Barnes over Drummond. Nobody is calling Colangelo an elite GM but his mistakes are absolutely in line with other solid GMs. Has Masai Ujiri done any better?

- Bruno Caboclo over Rodney Hood

- Lowry to the Knicks for Shumpert or Hardaway JR & 2018 1st (veto'd by Dolan)

- Lowry to the Nets for Bojan Bogdanovic, Mirza Teletovic (rejected by King)
