I think Al Horford makes more sense than Whiteside. He's a more versatile player. Admittedly not a defensive beast or a deliverer of huge rebounding numbers. But certainly a competent to above average defender and rebounder, nice mid range game, good passer. He's a solid upgrade over Ian Mahamni and Jordan Hill and other than Paul George we need to improve just about everywhere else.

I also think an argument can be made that Indiana is a good destination for him. Join forces with a budding star, a team that is better than Atlanta (if you take him off Atlanta). As I see it he's in the same place Aldridge was in Portland (Best player on a good but not great team). I haven't given it that much thought but is there another possible destination for him that would be that much better than the Pacers?

I could see Detroit making a run at him, though he's not the type of PF SVG really wants so they may ask him to play backup center as well, which he likely doesn't want to really do. Could also see the Wizards going after him once they realize Durant is a pipedream and I expect Boston to chase almost every big name guy, but neither of those seem like good fits for him either.

Ultimately, I think most teams that have cap space (which will be a lot) will chase him as he's probably the best FA that would seem to be actually attainable. I think we could have a good shot at him though if he does decide to leave Atlanta (which I'm skeptical he will though).

He's really the dream acquisition possible this summer for the Pacers. He's an amazingly solid veteran in the locker room who just works his butt off and plays hard every night. He's got a very good jumper. He's a plus offensive player. Double plus defensive player. Plays the C spot, and the PF spot. And he's developing a usable 3 point shot slowly as he ages. He'd be a great person and player to put next to Myles Turner for the next 4 years, too.

Really, as good an acquisition as David West was several years back, Horford would be a monumentally better acquisition. And with the level of respect we have for David West, that says an awful lot. He will be 30 this offseason, but with his game, and how he could age like a David West, a 4 year contract would be no worry, whatsoever.

I think you'd look to keep Ian, still, too, as Horford and Myles' abilities to play either the 4 or 5 means you could play almost any combination of the 3 together. You still have Christmas and Lavoy, too. And the possibility to play some small ball minutes with CJ or PG at the 4.

We definitely will, but I think a lot of teams will want him to be a center for more minutes than he wants to. We can sell him on starting at PF next to Ian and then getting him in the post with Myles on the floor and Myles guarding the other center. A lot of those other teams don't have a legit superstar (PG), some good to great 3rd-5th options (Ellis, Hill, Miles), up and coming complementary pieces, and having Bird always selling always helps.

I still expect him to stick with the Hawks, but you never know what will happen until the offseason.

Not sure why we don't do this with Jordan Hill at the moment. Would give us some extra shooting on the offensive end, but still provide the rim protection that Hill doesn't provide, but he is capable of guarding 4s.

I'd love to see Horford in a Pacer Uniform, I agree with Scooter Horford would be bigger for us than David West was. I'd like to us sign Ian as well and Play him at starting center until Turner is ready, Horford at PF and PG at the small forward, with Monta and George Hill that would be a pretty good starting line up. With Allen and Turner off the bench you have a very versatile front line.

What I like about Whiteside is his big rebounding and shot blocking numbers. But I don't think he's gonna be signing here.

Whiteside definitely won't, but I don't see why Horford wouldn't at least consider Indy. He doesn't seem to be the type of guy who would only go for big markets. And we have a player better than anyone on the Hawks who is young. Millsap is better than everyone not named Paul George, but he plays the same position as Horford, is older, and the rest of their roster is comparable. Plus outside of Schroeder they don't have any young players with potential and Schroeder has had issues with wanting to start.

I could definitely see him resigning as Atlanta still has a lot to offer, but I think we have a better situation for the future.

I like him. Horford is a very good all around guy. A Poor Mans Timmy. And the way Myles is playing it could create one hell of a front court tandem. Myles looks to be poised to at the very least be a starter for the rest of this season in the very near future. He is playing like a star right now (as of the last four games).
