If we get Ben Simmons. Who's the PF that will go? LNJ or Randle?

Post#1 » by thegamefritz » Fri Jan 15, 2016 5:42 pm

I guess it is not wrong to dream esp. with what we've been through for the past years.

Let's say we are fortunate enough to be the #1 pick next year.

Most likely we will pick Ben Simmons, we will pick the best player not by fit

so we will have 3 young PF'S, logged jam @ pf. So who are we getting rid? no way Ben Simmons can play SF nor Julius (they don't have consistent outside game) LNJ might be but I doubt if he will be effective

For me. I would retain LNJ, the guy's game is just so mature, Randle and Ben Simmons got more or less similar game.

Why trade anyone? If Simmons and Randle develop jumpshots, we can play all 3 of them together.

You have a couple options where you don't have to necessarily move them. Depending on how much Larry Nance develops his mid range shot you might be able to run him at the 4 with Simmons at the 3. You could bring Randle off the bench in a 6th man role because of the energy he plays with.

Simmons also plays as Center at LSU so there is a chance you can run him at the 5 in a small ball line up with Nance or Randle at the 4 and a 3 and D guy at small forward.

I still have have a lot of faith in both Randle and Nance panning out as good players so I'd hate to move them if it doesn't net us a player to fill one of our holes.

Depends on if Simmons can guard a SF. If he can, we can play the three of them together. All can switch and recover without losing much on defense.

I seen some things from LNJ that remind me of DGreen...he is a great disrupt or on defense(6 steals last night). He can play some center too.
If we get Simmons it (Nance/Randle) will be a good problem to have.

None for at least a year. theres room for all of them, you play them together for a year, to see who meshes well together. Simmons can use a year coming off the bench and working on his jumpshot. Wait to see what big name free agents sign, then adjust from there.

Nance, because it's simple: Russell and Simmons would be handling the ball a lot. You need a power forward who can play off the ball - that's Nance, not Randle. Randle also can't shoot right now, he's a ball stopper. He's better off as 6th man where his usage will be higher.

Re: Simmons' position - it'll be a nominal one. He's 6'9" and plays like a point, has a 40" vertical. He's a physical freak, and he's as position-less as Lebron, whose nominal position is SF but he's played anything from the one to the four. Simmons will be placed at SF/PF, like Lamar Odom until later in his career, when he played PF/C. Basically, Simmons can play anywhere, he's that good of a basketball player.

Durant and Batum have also played different positions depending on the matchup, from the two to the four. That's just juicy, because essentially we're able to avoid being in the situation we're in now - big holes at certain positions.

Defensively, that's the exciting thing about getting Simmons + Durant/Batum, that's a lot of length on defense to shut down passing lanes, rebound and fast break, switch everything, hedge and zone, their length and footspeed allows them to impact a greater area on the floor, because they can still close out on shooters. Long players with foot speed are valuable for what some analysts have been calling "defensive sphere of influence."

On offense, it's cake. It's just domination. Russell, Durant/Batum, Simmons would be the star trio, but we should have some serious money to play with in the frontcourt and bench while we enjoy the space afforded by Russell and Simmon's rookie contracts. Our PF and Center need to be guys who understand their roles and can embrace being complementary players to the star trio. So far, that's Nance.

Yeah. Simmons can likely do SF though..his 3 ain't too certain. That said...it's early to worry about bridges far away. The guy has a sweet learning curve. #1 pick has been as much about LUCK as SUCK. Several times, the #1 went to a team not even top 5 at SUCK... but tops at luck. It's always good to have top level players. The SYSTEM...adapts to make it work...or..you get a better system.

If we get Simmons i can def see chances of a Durant/Batum signing rising a good notch

Russell - Clarkson
Durant/Batum - Lou - Brown
Simmons - FA - Young
Randle - Kelly - Black
Nance - FA - (Black)

Sign Boban Marjanovic 7 mil
Sign Jeff Green 7 mil
Or
Sign Al Horford 25.3 max

Let go of Byron kindly
Hire Luke Walton as HC

Off season winners!!!

Room for the kids to keep growing and room for a max slot next year. Horford being 30 helps our young front court guys learn to play the pf/c from one of the nba's best.
2014: Randle / Clarkson
2015: Russell / Nance
2016: Ingram / Zubac
2017: Top 3 Pick? Fultz, Ball or Bust

I don't see why you have to trade Randle. Maybe you start Nance and bring Randle off the bench when Simmons is out. They're going to have to learn to adjust their games and play together. Period.

give Randle 1 more year, play small ball, simmons/nance/randle....and I wouldn't live in this simmons fantasy land. We'd be lucky to even stand at 2 and even at 2 I think that's even more of a natural fit with Ingram. HIs shooting ability and off-ball player would be more ideal for this team, Simmons IMO will need to be a high usage player and dominate the ball in order to be effective early in his career.

why would we ?

we should just **** the league with 3 6'9 highly skilled big. Or even throw Black out there. We will **** the league and create a brand new identity.

This talk about trade Beast soon will be sound very stupid. Soon. i can't wait the opportunity to bump this kind of thread. Can't wait.

Keep them both. Nance or Randle can handle the bench whenever Simmons is ready to take a starting spot. That's a good and deep rotation at the SF and PF spots. Maybe even play one of them as back up center.

You don't trade players unless they are either asking for/due to receive more money than they are worth to you. Until that point, you don't just trade players because you're afraid of bruising some egos.

I alway thought of Simmons has a SF in a PF body. We wouldn't need to trade Randle or Nance tbh...

Randle. I like Randle I just don't like his inability to shoot from midrange. I'm not sure if he'll ever develop the touch. I'd rather trade him now before we find out he will be a one trick pony.

why would KD sign if we get simmons... he wants to win right now... not in 5 years.... randle sucks..russell sucks.. simmons will take time to develop. His best chance to win is OKC, if he leaves there it will be for home - Wash..IMO.

Hold up...a 2nd year player that is really playing his 1st season in a professional league sucks? A rookie playing his 1st season in the league sucks?

What do you expect out of these guys? I mean seriously...This is beyond ridiculous how much people expect out of these YOUNG players...

They've shown plenty than other rookies and 2nd year players. Sometimes I think people expect a Kobe Bryant right out the draft...smh...

Russell (2nd yr, 20) Vet
Clarkson (3rd yr, 24) Lou (11th yr, 30)
Durant (9th yr, 28) Simmons (1st yr, 20)
Nance (2nd yr, 24) Randle (3rd yr, 22)
Whiteside (4th yr, 27) Black (3rd yr, 25) Upshaw (22)

That team is not really that young to be honest and could make the WCF in its first year and win it all with the addition of another max player like Westbrook the following year. And get them at least to the WCF for the forseeable future.
