Re: Around the NBA 8.0
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/nbarankSGs/ranking-top-10-shooting-guards-ever
ESPN did top 10 all-time shooting guards today
1. Jordan
2. Kobe
3. West
4. Wade
5. Drexler
6. Iverson
7. Gervin
8. Allen
9. Miller
10. Monroe
No real beefs with this ranking, except I would have Richmond, Dumars and maybe Maravich ahead of Miller. I could also probably argue for Moncrief, Harden and a few others as well. Most everyone knows by now that I consider Miller to be among the most overrated players in NBA history. Also, have to wait and see which players they have listed as small forwards. For example, what position do they use for: Havlicek, Barry, Westphal, Thompson. First three I assume are SF. Westphal won't crack top 10 probably in either spot, but at his best, he was probably better than Reggie. Thompson as his best was most certainly better than Reggie. Reggie seems to get that bump for being good for a long time and having memorable playoff moments. His peak years were definitely not top 10, not even close.

Re: Around the NBA 8.0

Some of that is misleading (i.e. "giving up" both Bogdanovic and Lorenzo Brown when they were traded for each other as part of it); but still, a few solid players had a cup of coffee in Minny and the Wolves got nothing more than a salary dump out of it. And now they have KAT and Wiggins, there's hope for the lolcats!
It's also a nice reminder on why you don't sell 2nd round picks for nothing. We could do one of these on the Hornets' 2014 draft class depending on what happens with Batum and Hairston.

Interesting strategy by Dallas. They are resting all their starters on the second night of a back to back against OKC. They are getting crushed at halftime. Seems like the team should be fined by the nba, the fans deserve to see a better game.

They did that last week and actually won.

Re: Around the NBA 8.0
the more i see Bismarck's play, the more I feel that Hornets should never let him go... he set two big screens for Corey Joseph, clean and on time...he protects the rim, makes Vucevic difficult to score in the paint... he rolls hard to the rim off the PnR...
If he had Batum and Lin with him, he would be viable on the offensive end, the hornets probably would not have given up on him...
it makes me wondering about the situation with Cody Zeller, without Batum on the court, basically Zeller is a garbage guy out there to collect all the junks on offense...did not the hornets almost give up Zeller on the Batum trade?
batum is the most important piece of this team

Re: Around the NBA 8.0
Just looked up Cody's and Biz's defensive stats (I know that they aren't mutually exclusive, we could have had both) and I am surprised to learn that Cody has just as good rim protection stats as Biz. His contest % is a bit lower, but that's mostly because he is much more active defensively outside the lane. I did not realize that Cody had reached Biz level on his paint defense. Both are top 10 in total points saved (source). What is literally unbelievable is that Marv is ranked 13th on that list. Who would have thought that was possible last season.
I still maintain that Biz is a good paint defender, a great rebounder, a good screen setter, and below average (at best) at nearly every other facet of the game (defensively and offensively). His niche skillset are in the areas that Cliff has been able to get our team to be elite at. We have the third fewest DFGAs within 6 feet in the league. Last season we had the fewest, and the season before that we had the third fewest. This season we have the sixth lowest DFG%A on shots within 6 feet, so not only do we limit shots in the paint - we also hold those shots to a low %. The fact that we don't give up many shots in the paint diminshes the value of a guy who brings rim protection but otherwise sacrifices defensive versatility, and we've shown to be a top tier team defending the paint this season without either MKG or Biz.
Everyone knows we have been a dominant defensive rebounding team since Cliff arrived. That remains the case this season. We don't need Biz to be able to dominate the boards. Our schemes work.
Honestly I think our FO is having their decision to let Biz walk vindicated. We are doing just fine in Biz's strength areas without him. That's not at all a knock on his value to other teams, but he would just add strength to strength by sticking around and what we needed was to add strength to areas where we were weak (ball movement, offensive versatility, three point shooting).

I swear, I think the last 10 Lakers games have been nationally televised (except our game, which was locally televised).

Re: Around the NBA 8.0
Went to the Raps/Magic game last night here in the Big Smoke.
Cool crowd that ate up the tried and true entertainment schtick (bongo and air guitar cams, t-shirt cannons, etc.). Saw Yannick Noah and John Amaechi, which was kinda cool. Lot of mixed support as you can imagine, but heard a lot of Canadian accents and saw a few Canadian flags. Lot of guys there supporting their home country guys like Valanciunas and Vooch.
It was a good game as well. Biz looks a lot more comfortable on the court these days and his form at the line is excellent. Really liked what I saw from Joseph, and Oladipo all but willed the Magic into OT.
Best part?
Muggsy and Hakeem halftime appearance (with Ho. Grant as well).

Of course, had to subtly rock the purple and teal.

My jaw literally dropped. One of my friends (rugby player who has never been to a basketball game) asked "That was really good, right?" I just shook my head and said "Yeah, that was really good."

Re: Around the NBA 8.0
NBA Rank top 10 SF All-Time
1. Lebron
2. Bird
3. Dr J
4. Durant
5. Baylor
6. Pippen
7. Havlicek
8. Barry
9. Worthy
10. Dominique
I'm good with the top 3, even the controversial Lebron over Bird. Just going off career, I don't see how Durant can be ahead of Baylor and possibly the next 4 names on the list. I'd probably have Durant 8th. I love Worthy, one of my all-time favorite players, but I can't help but feel he's benefited greatly from playing next to Magic and Kareem all those years. Nique the quintessential numbers w/out wins guy is probably too high.
Seeing now that David Thompson is not listed as a SF, means he was snubbed as a SG. He's most definitely better than Reggie Miller.
if only looking at career peaks, Bernard King has to be mentioned in the top 8, definitely ahead of Worthy and Nique. Before he shredded his knees, he was as good as anyone.
Are we considering Billy Cunningham a PF? What about George McGinnis? Alex English has an argument over Nique as well. Paul Pierce?
