Surely that might be part of the equation but we still are in Phoenix not New York, Los Angeles or Chicago and our owner is Robert freaking Sarver. The best players seem to gravitate to the bigger markets and best owners. It will come down to coaching at some point.

If Booker could not make the starting lineup, how much talent did he really have on last years squad?

or

Maybe his judge of talent isn't so good.

If we were guaranteed a future front court of AD and Boogie, and then AD and Towns after that, I'd be game, but I'm guessing it still won't be all that simple to sign guys if they are legends in their cities when free agency hit. I don't know that you'd leave your nba team of 9 years, teammates, coach, fans, etc, to go play for a guy you played for 1 year a decade earlier.

^ Definitely no guarantees but if he recruits a Kentucky big or two as mentioned, maybe it's worth it.

I don't know if you ever saw the post on the general board (or maybe it was Nets board) where some "insider" basically broke the news about Kidd leaving the Nets to take over the Bucks....

well he's at it again.. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1421944

Dropping $120m on a coach with an unproven NBA record doesn't excite me.

He's a great cheerleader for the current system though and he's worked it perfectly:

"Come to Kentucky! You'll get exposure! We make the final 4 every year. You'll be part of a college all-star team. I have NBA connections and all my top performers go in the first round. Give me one good year and I'll get you millions in 12 months!"

The players get the 1 and done they are looking for. Put up with college for a year then get paid.

He get's his national championships.

Davis isn't going anywhere for a number of years with his contract, and I don't see Towns going anywhere once they have things rolling with him and Wiggins.

Cousins though I could see following Cal. He can't be that happy in Sac. I'd be tempted to sign Cal if it got Cousins. Stars are that valuable, and it's not my money and it doesn't count against the cap, so what do I care? But I don't think Cal is anything but an average NBA coach at best. He works at UK and worked at Memphis because he's a phenomenal recruiter. He has had a massive talent advantage everywhere he's been, and that just isn't as much a factor in the NBA.

Everytime I see this thread I **** cringe. Seriously. What is the fascination with Dantoni? I just don't get these desperate attempts at reliving the past.

THAT TEAM IS GONE. NASH IS GONE. MARION IS GONE. AMARE IS GONE. DIAW IS GONE. KERR WANTED TO HELP BUT YOU SENT HIM PACKING. LET IT DIE IN PEACE SARVER.

I expect the reason to look back is that the current Suns team along with it current coach suck, in a lot of our eyes. It is not fun to watch Suns games these days. Thank goodness for Devin Booker or it would be far worse.
