Kendrick Perkins on Pelicans | "This is Not What I Signed Up For"

Post#1 » by laploutocratie » Sat Jan 16, 2016 5:21 am

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After being an NBA champion, a member of three NBA Finals teams and playing with the likes of Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Paul Pierce and Russell Westbrook, Kendrick Perkins is accustomed to maximum effort and a commitment to winning.
So far in his first season with the New Orleans Pelicans, the veteran center has been disappointed with some teammates’ effort.

“It’s very disappointing. At the end of the day, this is not what I signed up for,” Perkins told Yahoo Sports before Wednesday’s win against the Sacramento Kings. “I signed up after I looked from the outside, coming in to a good young team that has been making strides in the right direction. We got real comfortable. We ain’t got long to make a push.

“At this point in time, we are all just searching to find the right lineups and who is going to come out and compete at a high level every night. That’s been our main problem before anything else. We just come out too many nights and don’t compete at the level we need in order to win. What really is the key to everything is our level of competitiveness.”

Dude has 9 games and played 83 minutes so far this season. He doesn't have a leg to stand on if he wants to start calling teammates out.

I agree that Perkins sucks I think he's been the worst player in the nba for a while bar maybe Kobe this year but I agree with him and think he's in his right to call out the team.
He wasn't brought there to be productive but more of a mentor and teacher and the team hasn't been putting on the effort. So the whole "he can't talk " is bs.

Perkins would never have been anywhere near NBA if he hadn't won in the genetic lottery. Might as well have any random bum from the street if he was 6'10 with 270 lbs.

Meh, don't mind it really. At this stage of his career that is pretty much his role to be the grumpy veteran presence who calls out his team mates for lack of competitiveness when he feels they need it.

he doesnt have to play to call people out.. He is a fan of the game too. Sad part is he is right we all thought the Pelicans were the up and coming team to watch yet they have not been able to win consistently. Seems it takes more than just AD to win.

You hate Kobe that much to compare him to Perkins? And who is Perkins going to mentor and teach?

The point is that Perkins has been a major negative for 83 minutes, Kobe has been a major negative for 986 minutes. In a vacuum Kobe probably isn't among the worst players in the league (and even that is questionable) but he has had the biggest negative impact for his team out of everybody this year.

What he said. Both are negatives Kobe just gets far more minutes.

Kobe was just a reference of how bad I think perk is on court. But as far as a locker room guy and a mentor his past teammates and coaches etc all love him.

I couldn't stand him just last year because he sucked so bad but the team loved him.

He's terrible as a player, but I've got no problem with what he said.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

What he is saying is not a secret. Alvin Gentry has said it, Dell Demps has said it. Regardless of what everyone thinks of the roster structure, this team is way too talented to be where they are. And AD is one of the guys they are talking to for what its worth. I have no problem with him saying what he said.

Can't say that i'm the biggest fan of Perkins but I don't have a problem with what he's saying.
