He's done it before. And I think he would do it again for Whiteside.
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

Ignoring every other factor (Wade supporting Spo, Spo being more accomplished etc etc ) :

3 time champion Shaq ≠ Dleague gem Whiteside

19 players since block stats were kept. Not listing them all, but they can be found here:

Q: who has done that two or more times in a single season?

A: Robinson (89-90, 90-91, 93-94), Olajuwan (89-90, 95-96), Mutombo (92-93, 93-94, 94-95), Bradley (95-96, 96-97), Camby (97-98), Whiteside (15-16)

And there's no reason Whiteside should do that anyway, you don't leave a great situation for the possibility of maybe getting 5% more touches on a new team where a ton of other issues could pop up.

Whatever difficulties Hassan is facing here He'll face in any team he goes to. Growing pains are expected, it's how he handles them that will determined his future.

It does not matter. Whiteside is clearly in the the drivers seat. Whiteside will do what is best for him and rightly so. At the end of the day money will and role will be the deciding factor. Treating a player to a double standard while he is an unrestricted free agent is so "Spo"

*True Story:

Spo is the only coach in the league who has ever given Hassan the opportunity to be a full-time, NBA starting center.

Spo is the only coach, who has tried to break Hassan and who has treated him like crap compared to other players. Spo did say, that this is a small ball league basically saying there's no use for Hassan. Pat Riley was the one who has given Hassan his chance, not the video coordinator. Where ya at?!

And yet Spo has still chosen to use Hassan against small lineups while playing him 29.1 minutes per on the season and 31.4 minutes per over the last 15 games... including 4th quarters.

It's so obvious that Hassan see's what everyone on Twitter is saying.

Still don't think he's getting it. No one thinks he's lazy because he doesn't put up stats! He was getting called out for his effort, or the lack of it. You could see the obvious change this game, but this comment still has me scratching my head. Dude is too caught up in his stats.

Anyway, that was an awesome game yesterday and way to come back after all the chit from last game, Hassan!

The only tech the VC has gotten this year is when he was arguing with the refs on Hassan's behalf. Yeah, the guy he personally wants to see out of this league.

Spo has no choice but to "try" and play him. Because if he don't he would look stupid, and it would guarantee a Whiteside bolt during FA. Trust me, Spo hates this guy.

Spo has NEVER yelled at a player during a game, not even Rio, certainly not Bosh, LeBron, Winslow, etc.. And Wade when he cursed him out during a timeout when we played the Pacers during the ECF.

But can you guess what player he has now decided to yell at? Yep you guessed it, Hassan Whiteside.

Another thing I'd like to say, this thread started out about how Hassan would get a max deal from the heat and now it has devolved into folks hoping he leaves and get a max deal from the Lakers or another team. Not only that, the same folks hope he comes back and destroys our team :banghead:

A bit better in full context, but the reference to stats or putting up numbers is what I was getting at. Stats should be the icing on the cake and not the whole cake, the box and the stand too!

B-b-but we're better with small ball, Bosh is our best center! Beat writers and Hassan nay-sayers looking like idiots right now.

Coach Spo is the one keeping alive the Whiteside's project. Hassan is still a rough diamond and yes it was a good idea to bench him when our opponents go small ball :

- To not expose him as you know : he is not quick enough and cant repeat the effort for a long period, he needs to work on his stamina, if you watch him closely, he is often gazed

Image

- You must play with his pride in order to get the best from him. As you can see against the Nuggets, he was on a mission after all the critics he got ("people were saying he was lazy...") then he proved it them wrong on the court.

I would have been worried if Coach Spo was yelling at him all the time as you pretend but i see a lot of chemistry between them

Image

And i agree with RBW : his main problem is the mental, he gives too much attention to the critics and he needs to handle better the fact he can be ignored. I was very surprised and happy that he was able to pass the ball when they were double team him last night : that's a big step. Of course as KingDavid pointed it out, he did send a ball to the cround : i see more the fact that he was willing to pass the ball than the turnover !

Coach Spo is trusting more and more Hassan even when teams are playing small ball

As long as we make it to the postseason and perform well, I'm not worried about resigning Hassan Whiteside. We have the money to resign him and offer Wade a decent contract. June 2017 we'll have another $19M in cap space for free agents. Wade & Bosh will have aged, but Winslow & Johnson will be a year older, and we even get a first round pick. We're not going away anytime soon. These are good problems to have.

Honestly we should. Everyone will be throwing money at him. Its what role and what he wants that will dictate his choice of team he selects. This is very similar to the Lebron situation. We can offer him the money but if he gets a better offer, being more of a featured player, then Whiteside will do what is best for him just like Lebron did.
