The only tech the VC has gotten this year is when he was arguing with the refs on Hassan's behalf. Yeah, the guy he personally wants to see out of this league.

Spo has NEVER yelled at a player during a game, not even Rio, certainly not Bosh, LeBron, Winslow, etc.. And Wade when he cursed him out during a timeout when we played the Pacers during the ECF.

But can you guess what player he has now decided to yell at? Yep you guessed it, Hassan Whiteside.

Coach Spo is the one keeping alive the Whiteside's project. Hassan is still a rough diamond and yes it was a good idea to bench him when our opponents go small ball :

- To not expose him as you know : he is not quick enough and cant repeat the effort for a long period, he needs to work on his stamina, if you watch him closely, he is often gazed




- You must play with his pride in order to get the best from him. As you can see against the Nuggets, he was on a mission after all the critics he got ("people were saying he was lazy...") then he proved it them wrong on the court.

I would have been worried if Coach Spo was yelling at him all the time as you pretend but i see a lot of chemistry between them



And i agree with RBW : his main problem is the mental, he gives too much attention to the critics and he needs to handle better the fact he can be ignored. I was very surprised and happy that he was able to pass the ball when they were double team him last night : that's a big step. Of course as KingDavid pointed it out, he did send a ball to the cround : i see more the fact that he was willing to pass the ball than the turnover !

As long as we make it to the postseason and perform well, I'm not worried about resigning Hassan Whiteside.

Big if factor... I'm not sure if Whiteside or Heat would be willing to co-exist if it isn't working by then because he can probably find a better role elsewhere and Heat could probably find an easier fit at Center(probably not as dynamic or young) like Horford

I'd like to believe we keep him even if we barrel out because of youth/potential... lot of money and things at stake this season

I think this mantra gives us a leg up. Hassan seems to be almost exactly the opposite of what the media portrays. He is passionate, hard-working, and loyal both to his friends and family. The image of the complacent dude that is just in it for the money doesn't fit.

Only eat with who you starved with and doc said no (along with the rest of the NBA). We have every reason to be hopeful.

I'm feeling extremely confident now, Bishop45. Once I realized we don't have to trade McRoberts/Stokes/Richardson and are still able to sign Wade for 3/45 and Whiteside for full max (not saying we should - just saying we can), nothing bothers me about the off season. Wade may not want 3/45. It's even likely that we'll have more hoops to jump through, but I'm not worried anymore. Having to dump an injured McRoberts whose value is destroyed meant giving up assets. I'd like to keep our assets.

And yet Spo has still chosen to use Hassan against small lineups while playing him 29.1 minutes per on the season and 31.4 minutes per over the last 15 games... including 4th quarters.

Spo has no choice but to "try" and play him. Because if he don't he would look stupid, and it would guarantee a Whiteside bolt during FA. Trust me, Spo hates this guy.

“I was told that they would not let Whiteside go because they didn’t want to lose him for nothing so they were going to have to pay him and they are less sure of that now,” Le Batard said during the local hour of his radio show Tuesday. “That they are vacillating the same way that the fan base is vacillating and Riley changed his mind often on that one. Whiteside is the type of player that can change the complexion of any game. Come playoff time having a game changer like that will be huge. His biggest issue is consistency.

If he learned how to flip a switch late in games when we need to lock in defensively...

When he's engaged he looks like a superstar center. The problem is that he'll also have nights where he puts up an empty 10 and 10 while getting outplayed by the opposing teams center.

Games like last night are why I want to keep him long term. He's only 26, there are worse gambles then betting on an athletic 7 footer who is the best shot blocker the league has seen in the past 20 years.

Last night we saw growth, the physical aspect has always been there he just needs to learn how to dominate games to get us wins because really thats all that matters in this league.

Worth noting though that when he really took over the game yesterday--no Wade, No Dragic, No Bosh. The group he was with had no choice but to trust him and do things like...get him post ups. And his confidence grew and grew with each trip down the floor. The Bulls used to have a thing in the Jordan years where they started every single game with 2 or 3 post-ups for Cartwright or Longley--just to get the big man involved early. You don't really see that in today's NBA much--but I think that kind of approach would work with Whiteside. Get him some early post-ups, get him locked in on the game--and then watch his effort on both ends go up. You gotta reward your big man throughout the game, and maybe if we had a real point guard, which Beno is closer to than Dragic, that might happen more often? When Hassan's man scores on him, let him go right back at him. When he gets a big block, reward him when he runs the floor. I think that kind of thing would really help chemistry. We really needed a floor general more than a Dragic scorer type. We needed a guy who could come in and say okay Wade hasn't got his touches in a few, let me set him up. Or Chris is getting isolated from the game, let me run a pick and pop with him. Or let's run something for Whiteside. A guy who really knows how to run a team. we'd be a better team I think with Rubio as our point guard, even though Dragic is I think a better player overall.

On Hassan's end, I wish he'd realize that if he set better screens, he'd probably get a lot more out of playing with Goran. If nothing else following Goran in on drives for put backs.

As long as we make it to the postseason and perform well, I'm not worried about resigning Hassan Whiteside. We have the money to resign him and offer Wade a decent contract. June 2017 we'll have another $19M in cap space for free agents. Wade & Bosh will have aged, but Winslow & Johnson will be a year older, and we even get a first round pick. We're not going away anytime soon. These are good problems to have.

Honestly we should. Everyone will be throwing money at him. Its what role and what he wants that will dictate his choice of team he selects. This is very similar to the Lebron situation. We can offer him the money but if he gets a better offer, being more of a featured player, then Whiteside will do what is best for him just like Lebron did.

On the other hand, I do think we'll get a loyalty bonus that other teams won't get, because we're the only team that took a chance on him. You'd like to think if this team makes the playoffs though that a lot of the chemistry issues will resolve themselves, and he'll have a more positive place within the team.

But I am worried about the Mavs and Lakers putting the press on Hassan. He'd fit a few other teams with cap space a lot better than he has fit down here, and they may be more willing to make him a feature player. But who knows how much he trusts those promises?

A big plus is that we'll have Riley handling it, and if we do truly want Hassan, I don't think there's anyone that can make Hassan feel more wanted than Pat and Mickey.
