I know BPA has to be used to certain extents but I just want them to solidify the wing positions with this draft and even FA. I'm completely fine with Ish being the starting PG next season. Even if BPA dictates we take Dunn in a scenario where we get the Lakers pick I still wouldn't turn the team over to him right away considering how crucial Ish's experience is for developing all the other young guys on the team.

BPA doesn't ensure the pick starts, so I'm with you. As far as the wings, if they get picks 1 or 2, that's addressed, but FA also has a nice set of SF in Durant, Barnes and Batum...the wings should be much better next year.

Re: 2016 NBA Draft/College Basketball Thread
I really do wonder what would happen if we ended up with that fourth pick and the draft went Simmons, Ingram, Dunn.
I think if we picked first and got Simmons, the team would be ok pulling the trigger on Bender at 4 as he easily be the most talented player. But if we picked second and got Ingram, that wouldn't be a big enough coup (it really is a coup), to be able to get away with picking Bender.

BPA or trade if at 4. Hield may rise, and in think Brown drops. Hield may be a special scorer.

Re: 2016 NBA Draft/College Basketball Thread
I'm willing to take a chance on Brown at 4. In hopes that the open spaces of the NBA game has a Wiggins-esque effect on him and thus the pre-college hype was warrented...but yeah falling to 4 seems pretty bad. Bender IMO is a no go if he can't play the 3 AND also come over right away...he can be talented as he wants...we can't wait and taking another bigman is lunacy.
A trade down with say Denver in hopes of getting their second pick could be a smart move...get Brown or Murray there AND get another first rounder for your troubles. Basically take a quanity over quality approach at that point in hopes that one of your dudes Paul George or Jimmy Butler it up. Covington not being dead and Ish have us looking like an actual good team...I think we can find some guys better than both in this draft, weak as it may be (Its really only "weak" at the top in terms of near lock stars). Falling to four would crush my heart but that doesn't mean we kick the can again. Move on from the OKC method and into the Houston method of stockpiling dudes while you hope one of those dudes turn into a star (Embiid in our case but also whoever we draft next year)

Hield at 4 would be a massive reach

Doesn't have the freak athleticism like a Josh Jackson. But his skill set for his age and size is freakish. I would take him #1 easily if he was in this draft

While I agree, Randy Foye went 7th overall in 06 and was traded for the 6th pick (Brandon Roy).

I don't view PG as a very high priority for us in the top of the draft. I wouldn't be upset if we drafted Dunn but if we did re-sign Ish I doubt Dunn is a better player than Ish at this time. Dunn wouldn't start. TJ is a good backup too. We need wings in a major way.

I agree 100%. But if your sitting in the 3-5 range, Dunn could be hard to pass up. He simply check's a lot of boxes.
Who else would we target?
Jaylen Brown is the only prototypical NBA wing outside of Ingram currently projected in the top 10 or so. Jamal Murray may be able to be a CJ McCollum esque combo guard, but outside of that its a total toss up.
Im not sure I see a star in Jaylen Brown. Maybe they get allured by his measurable's and think they can mold him into a high level player, but IDK if I see it.28% from 3PT and 63% FT scares me. Unless you see Kawhi Leonard/Jimmy Butler like traits in him, it would be tough to swallow spending a top 5 pick on him.

If we have a doomsday scenario of no Dunn, Ingram, or Simmons, then it should be Murray. I think we will see a much more efficient player moving forward if the Cats get some consistent big man play. I do believe that Skal will begin to make a bit of a difference and we should start seeing more of Tai Wynyard which will help rebounding and keeping offensive possessions alive.
Murray is a Brandon Knight type player that is being forced to play off ball because of Ulis (who is no slouch himself). He has his warts and is appearing to be a chucker, but that's not really his game. Calipari boils his top players jobs down to one specific task. With Cousins he had him stay under the basket and only take easy shots. Was he capable of shooting and facing up? For sure. But that's not what was asked of him. Archie Goodwin was asked to essentially be the offense because he can drive to the basket and draw fouls/sometimes convert. People hated him because he got too many charge calls, but that's what Calipari was looking for. Now, Calipari would have loved him to dish the ball off to one of the many wide open guys, but he knew that the offense's best chance at scoring was having the ball in Archie's hand. This is a similar mentality with Murray/Ulis, except they do pass and pass well.
In this dribble drive offense, the guards need to penetrate and either finish or dish it. Murray has been quite good at that, but he's also making freshman mistakes (3 t/o per game). Additionally, aside from a few shots, I honestly feel like every shot he takes is going in. That's rare for me from a UK player. The only reason he's shooting pedestrian numbers is because Marcus Lee and Poythress (along with Skal) provide zero threats offensively. Why double them or collapse the defense? It's not like they are even good at offensive rebounding. It's a shame that we are wasting Ulis and Murray with garbage play from the front court. I do believe it will get better though.

Re: 2016 NBA Draft/College Basketball Thread
People who don't think PG is a priority because of Ish are just fooling themselves. He has made himself into a nice offensive player in many respects, but he is an undersized defensive sieve who lacks a real threat from the three point line, plus he takes a beating on those drives to the basket and very few have that Iverson-esque ability to absorb that kind of abuse over the long term. He is much better situated as a reserve on a really good team, which is where we are trying to go, not just to mediocrity.
After the top two it is really too early to see how this draft will shake out, and trades may shake things up in the meantime. I kind of like this draft at the moment in the 8-18 range, better than I do in the 3-7 range, so trading back if the lottery balls don't bounce our way would be fine with me if the right trade can be found.
I expect at least one trade of one of our bigs for an established wing or point before the offseason is over, in part for roster balance, and in part to be able to recruit free agents here who will want to join with whomever we get.

I think that the point with Ish is that he is sufficient to ensure competent play and development for our prospects. He isn't the long term answer, but he is good enough for us to not have to worry about that position right now.
I would feel very comfortable giving him a solid back up point guard type of contract this off season.

I actually have him going to Philadelphia in my midseason mock, just way lower than that,
