Re: The Jeremy Lin Thread 2
im not sure why we are even talking about rob, he has played 21 games averaging 9mins (which the large majority are because of injury or blowouts)..
and Lin is having plenty of plays ran for him, he is averaging 14ppg over his last 8 games (12 for the season) and is averaging 48 touches per game for the season (3rd on the team).
more ball possessions stats for lin
seconds per touch- 4 (3rd on team)
dribbles per touch 3.89 (3rd on team)
2nd in both if you dont count Rob ( who is #1 on team is both, which is surprising)

i am happy for lin to get all the exposure, endorsements, attentions etc, these are all good... but as a lin fan, I am more interested to see how lin evolves as a player, to see if he can become an all-star level player... yes, I have a high expectation for him and I believe he has the inborn talents to become one.... however, so far I am not seeing the major improvement... I am a little disappointed

Hi Clutchie, I love you...

These endorsements give him the financial flexibility to choose his team more carefully. He could afford to go to Charlotte for a single year at $2M partly because he makes more than that in endorsements ($4M in endorsements last year, top 100 in Forbes list last year of highest earning athletes across all sports).
Whereas someone who doesn't have that financial cushion may not be able to basically sacrifice one year's salary in the middle of their prime. Though obviously it's a calculated risk and he likely hopes to recoup the lost earnings with his next contract in the higher cap era with whatever team he signs with in the summer.
Just like how guys who have made a lot of money in their career like David West can afford to give up money to go ring chasing for vet min.
Without this endorsement cushion that lets him ignore his salary for a year, he may not be in Charlotte right now.

sometimes I really don't understand my fellow lin fans' perspectives... you guys sound like lin had a lot options last summer, the fact is he did not have a lot options... I am surprised he did not get Hornets' MLE though...
lin is not a guy who lives in a luxury life anyway... NBA players contracts not only mean money, also mean your status in the team and in the league...

He had lots of options but the Hornets was the best. MLE means he is locked in at a low salary longer. Not a good option for Lin. Better take a one year deal and go from there.

I remember an interview with Lin's dad saying that Lin got a few offers in the last offseason, lowball ones tying him up for cheap for a few years. Think the specific team mentioned was backing up Conley on the Grizzlies for 3 years, no opt out.

I respectfully disagree on your take on Lin's progress this year. His 3 point shooting is the only thing that took a dive this year, and it is because he is tweaking his shooting form. Not that I agree with him changing his shooting form so often, but that's the reason, and he will get his 3 point percentage back to around 39% or even 40% eventually, hopefully soon.
He had improved and demonstrated his defensive ability, and Clifford had kept him in game on several occasions for defensive purposes. You don't hear people calling him a defensive liability anymore. He is actually a great defender, but the concept of JLin being a defensive specialist will take some more time for people to sink in.
He also improved his off ball movement and cutting. You see him running off ball constantly, and cutting to get himself open in game very frequently, only if he can finish them with 3 point shooting, his point average per game would improve at least by 3 point by making just one more 3 pointer per game. No one is saying Lin needs the ball in his hand to succeed anymore either, because he is essentially playing SG at hornets and has been doing a great job.
I do hope he gets his 3 point shooting back soon, but his progress in other areas had been over looked in my opinion.

Coming to Charlotte was definitely a better move than being tied up on a cheap contract for 3 years while backing up Conley.
AT least now, Lin can get back on the free agent market and look for a much better deal....At the very minimum, Lin should get a 6Mil per/ 3 years contract.....If he can boost his 3ptfg% to 35, that'd make him even more valuable.
The fact that he's better at playing off the ball may increase his value...Everyone thought that he would not be able to play off the ball, specially with Kemba, but Lin has done well playing off the ball...He just need to work on his outside shot.

lol grizzlies tried to pull a fast one. Conley is having an OK year so far, and having lin on the team would have meant a backup PG better than your starter. Still, the grizzlies are a pretty awesome team, it would have been cool to play next to tony allen, the best defensive player in the league, marc gasol, etc. Too bad they tried lowballing though lol, that lakers season last year with the lakers really set lin back in his career. Lesson learned...NEVER go to a tanking team again.

He was traded there, he had no saying on that move. He did choose Charlotte, and given the situation, I think he made the right choice coming here. In just half a season so far, he had improved his value greatly while being a major contributor to the team.

You say "back" as though he's shot that percentage before. 36.9% is his career best 3PT%.

He changed his shooting form several times in the past including this most recent one. If he didn't make this most recent change, he could have been shooting 38% this season. Based on his track record for various improvements over the years ever since his year at GS, I think he earned the benefit of the doubt that he can and will improve. And I think 39%+ 3 point shooting percentage would be a good place for him to settle.
