Riley did the right thing. You don't get much with lower picks. One of the picks is the Minnesota pick which will convey next year as two seconds (over two years). Winslow will be much better next year. He really could use some time in Sioux Falls learning to shoot though. In another season (where we didn't need him on the court) I can see him having a better chance for development.

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^

According to articles at the time, it was #16 (Terry Rozier), #28 (RJ Hunter), the Minnesota pick (which will convey as two seconds), and a future Brooklyn pick. Two seconds were also reportedly added.
Think about this. Charlotte wanted Frank Kaminsky more than Boston's offer and the deal was never offered to Miami. Or have you heard that Ainge tried to do the same with Riley?

We save over 10 million dollars in the trade and get an open roster spot. Green would become the starter at SF. It works out for the Blazers cause they could use a veteran at SF to backup Aminu for a potential 8th seed playoff run and they also need to take on the salary to get to the cap floor. No way is Mickey going to foot a repeater tax bill for this product. I do not see any of our players that we want to get rid of having the value needed in order to obtain a Ryan Anderson or any of the names being thrown around in the trade market unless we want to take on years in salary. I think the goal now has to be get under the tax and roster flexibility. Josh McRoberts has to prove health first before anybody dares take on the next two years of his deal. I think we are essentially stuck with him. We got lucky last year when Dragic forced his way to Miami. Don't think that is happening again this year with any of the potential free agents.
That second rounder is going the wrong way. Portland doesn't need either Deng or Birdman. You need to add value if the trade is to stop Miami from paying repeater tax.
True. Disregard the 2nd rounder. Portland needs some depth behind Aminu. Why not a veteran like Deng to help them get the 8th seed? They are essentially getting Deng for free and they need to absorb salary to get to the floor. They could use veteran depth at SF.
Remember there is no penalty for not reaching the cap floor. Teams can just spread the balance between there players and problem solved. No need to add a contact, especially a contract with extra years on it.

Who has extra year's? They are trying to improve there team for a playoff push by adding Deng(expiring).

No. Portland is not trying to make the playoffs. They are rebuilding their squad and they want a lottery pick.

Do you know that for sure considering they are only one game away from Utah? Also the added revenue by even making the playoffs.
They are actually debating this on there board

I see them aiming for the lottery. It's like us last year we could have made the playoffs but a lottery pic made more sense

Collins, Van Gundy, NBA scout opine on Heat at halfway point; Marlins, Dolphins, Canes chatter
WEDNESDAY BUZZ COLUMN
With the Heat beginning the second half of its schedule on Tuesday, we solicited insight on this roster from a veteran scout and ESPN/ABC analysts Jeff Van Gundy and Doug Collins. Some feedback:
### On Miami’s chances to make the Eastern Finals: Collins: “To be a [contending] team, I look at point differential, road record and [players] that can close out games. They have two who can close out games in Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The two things I worry about with them: In this league, you better be able to score and you better be able to shoot threes. They struggle in both areas. They play championship-level defense, but I worry when they play teams that really score. There’s no clear-cut No. 2 in the East. I put them in a group with Toronto, Atlanta, Chicago; I am not counting out Washington.”
Van Gundy doesn’t dispute that Miami could use another shooter but “to get something you have to give up something. They already gave up two No. 1s for Goran Dragic. There’s not a lot left…. Their defense is elite. Whether they have enough consistent offense after Bosh and Wade, that remains to be seen. That's where Dragic has to play consistently effectively at that end of the floor. Miami’s in that group of teams after Cleveland, and I believe someone is going to rise up and separate themselves.”
But Van Gundy believes Chicago and Toronto are the two teams who could "push [Cleveland] in a series."
The scout: “I know some people expected more, but you have to realistic. It’s not like they have a 23-year-old Wade, and they could use another shooter. I had them finishing three to six in the East and they’re still on pace for that.”
### On Hassan Whiteside: Van Gundy: “What's interesting is they're a little bit easier to guard when he's on the floor than when Bosh is at five. They certainly have an interesting decision to make at the end of the year. You never know how somebody is going to react to security, either positively or negatively.”
The scout says Whiteside’s rebounding and shot-blocking gifts are obvious but "he’s still limited offensively, struggles to finish around the basket. He has lapses in concentration and that hurts him a bit." He also said his "motor" isn't always good enough but he would still try to re-sign him if he were Miami.
### On Dragic: Van Gundy: “I just think he has to find the balance between being deferential to those two guys [Wade and Bosh], who are obviously Hall of Fame players, and being assertive himself. Can Dragic do that with a slower tempo? I think he can. He’s very good.”
Collins: “I felt they were trying to find their way with Dragic. When he was really successful in Phoenix, he was a one-man fast break and could push and probe and get in the paint. The Heat doesn’t play that way. I thought he was making the continued adjustment. But the ball is going to be in Wade’s hands. Goran always struggled being off the ball in Phoenix. That caused him duress playing that way.”
The scout wondered if this team is the ideal fit for Dragic. “He’s going back to the way he played in Phoenix when he was unhappy. I don’t know why they’re playing him off the ball so much. I see him stuck in the corner and Dwyane’s up top. I don’t know how that benefits Miami.”
### On Justise Winslow: The scout: “The guy I’m not really crazy about is Winslow. He doesn’t do a lot for me. His shot is broken and it really needs to be fixed. He has a great body, can get to the goal, can defend. The best part of his game is in transition. But I was really high on him in Summer League and he has lowered my expectations. He’s not a catch-and-shoot player. He can’t come off screens and shoot. It’s almost like a set shot. [Detroit’s] Stan Van Gundy made the right decision to take Stanley Johnson ahead of Winslow; Johnson is the better player.”
### Collins likes Luol Deng and Winslow but notes that “when you look at the top five teams in the league, every team has a very strong scorer at that [small forward] spot that can put up huge numbers. Lou is a corner-three guy; he’s a slasher and cutter. They are not a team that plays with great spacing and that hurts him, because he has always made his money getting on the break and getting easy buckets and cutting and slashing.”
The scout said Deng is still a plus-defender “and can still help as a rotation player, but he’s fading, not knocking down shots consistently.”
### All three naturally like how Bosh and Wade have played, though Wade’s mid-range game hasn’t been as efficient as past years. “Wade totally amazes me – he’s got a bounce in his step, looks a lot healthier,” the scout said.
### On Gerald Green: “He’s like a lot of players in this league; when he’s good, he’s good. When he’s bad, he’s bad,” the scout said. “It’s hard to rely on guys like that. He’s too streaky and too inconsistent for me. But they really need his scoring.”

The 16 draft sucks outside of Simmons. All of those assets would just be a waste of roster spots. How are the scrubs that Boston drafted in 2015 doing? Not well I'm guessing, they'd be sucking here too.
If Brooklyn's pick was indeed included it could've amounted to something big if it jumped into the top 3 or we could've ended up with Kris Dunn who was project 10-15 last year anyway before deciding to go back to school.
We made the right choice. We drafted a sure thing over a bunch of Norris Cole's/Shabazz Napier's

man Winslow with Brad Stevens as coach with a Smart and Bradley already that would be a hell of a defensive trio. Stevens would ahve Winslow looking like Kawhi out there. He has been great so far with us though but I think he can do even more. Seems like he is playing it cool not trying to step on anyones toes. He was much more aggressive midway through the Duke season when he realized he had to pick it up.

We have a streaky shooter in Green that can make a difference.
We have a solid PG in Beno Udrich that can manage a game and hit jumpers.
We have a ton of assets.
This team should not be losing like this.
It must be the system and/or coaching.
Yup, there's no other explanation.
We can talk about fit till next week, but a team with our talent level shouldn't look like we do.
A big part is coaching and system, and fit is a smaller but real factor too. Hunger and fire (or lack there of) if part of coaching.
At this point I'm tempted to say blow it up. All our talents are worthless if we end up being a 500 team. Nothing fits, nothing clicks, we're a completely RANDOM collection of (pretty good) players with no direction or style to speak of.
Wade should stay because of the history,
TJ is just a classic Heat guy so him too.
I'm getting to the point where everybody else should be on the trading block if we can get a good value back. And that includes this entire coaching staff that hasn't done 1 thing yet to make me think they're making this roster any better then any random Dleague coach would. NOTHING.
This current **** isn't working and I'm not seeing it getting much better without real changes.
