This will most likely be our Finals team:

RoLo
KP
Melo
Batum
Westbrook

That's what I've been telling people. You leave that PG spot open until 2017, or get someone cheap and short term like Mario Chalmers to stop the bleeding at the position.

The lineup you just listed could win a championship or at the very least make it to the Finals. Westbrook would be an awesome Jordan/Kobe in the triangle.

or as in not a giant gaping hold on defense? cuz fan favourite delly is a fa this year

Dellavadova would be a great fit in the triangle. Dunno how much $$ he'd command though.

Guy is gonna get paid this summer. Playing with LeBron deep into the playoffs two season in a row typically makes someone like that look good enough to dupe a team into giving them starters money.

Cleveland gave Shump 10 mil. Imagine what Delly will command--he actually had some huge moments in the postseason last year.

I personally believe that the top target this offseason is going to be Rajon Rondo. If they don't sign Rondo they will stick it out with Calderon and Grant for one more year. I have a feeling that if the spot is open in 2017 Chris Paul will come over to end his career with his buddy Melo.

Rondo is like the anti-Christ for a triangle guard. He's small, a terrible shooter, and a ball stopper. If Phil had wanted him, he would've chased him this past summer.

Great, I'm glad you are posting on this board Phil...

The Knicks are going further and further away from the triangle the more comfortable Fisher gets coaching. Rondo is a player that can push the ball and set the temp, break down the defense, get the ball to teammates in the right spots and oh yea play Defense! You build your system around the players you have not the other way around!

IMO we could just bump Galloway to starter and let Calderon come off the bench. I would even like to see AA and LT at the guard spots. We have guys with potential, and right now our team has chemistry. Do we want to mess with that? Of course in 2017 that's when the sexy names are FA.

Chris Paul will be 32 when he hits free agency and he isn't exactly the picture of health historically. I want no part of that. Signings like that are what have doomed this team. Westbrook or Curry? Please god yes. A CP3 with one foot in the NBA grave? No thanks. Seen that movie before. It sucks.

Curry will probably be locked up in a verbal agreement with GSW before he even hits FA. Just like Draymond did this past offseason.

Lack of Point Guard Play

Post#31 » by Mecca » Sat Jan 23, 2016 3:43 am

It's become quite evident that this team's potential is crippled due to the fact that we have extremely weak point guard play. Jose Calderon, while anchoring the triangle system efficiently is 35 years old and simply can no longer defend at the NBA level against starting point guards. This is a young mans game, and Calderon's lack of athleticism is apparent.

I completely understand that this topic is beat to death, but it will only continue to hamper our future until we take care of this issue. We did't expect for KP, Lance Thomas or Derrick Williams to be this good. Afflalo has taken the role of a mini-Kobe, and Robin has been coming on as of late. This team can seriously compete for an ECF appearance with fresh legs at Point Guard.

What PGs that are active in the NBA play worse defense than Jose? I'm genuinely curious to see how close to last he sits. I haven't seen a PG play this poorly on D as far back as I can remember. Even Felton would give some effort here and there if he saw a hotdog vendor in the stands.

explain?

I didn't mean AA is Kobe... just their styles are similar. Don't see anyone in this conference thats dangerous outside of Cleveland.

I don't see a playoff team yet. I see a team that will have ups and downs and hover around .500.

That's because we have a weak Point Guard.
