MKG is probably the only wing in the league that can anchor a defense.
Kawhi can also but is now carrying the load offensively for the Spurs.

I would love for MKG to get some minutes at the 4 too in particular matchups. I think we could be very effective playing a fast break style with Lin lamb Batum Mkg zeller lineup or some variation of that. I have also liked when cliff has put Batum at the 4 this season even though it's a very small sample size.

Yeah, I mean you would think that Kawhi carrying load on offense would be a hindrance to his defense but not at all. Due to the system that they run Kawhi has the highest % of his shots assisted by a 20+ ppg scorer and rarely ever expends great energy on offense. If you watch him he is very much checkbox 1 to checkbox 2 on offense with no herky jerky dribbling or movement all straight line moves, that also helps him save energy. Spurs have one of best defenses of all time this season.

I do think MKG is perfect player for a warriors type of series though. He can switch and guard 1/4 very smart on offense I would love to see how MKG would fare in that curry green pnr as I believe he is one of only players In nba with capability to guard either player.

Yep, no surprise there. The question is what happens with the PJ / Lamb situation. At this point I'm honestly ok with using Daniels over both of them.

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
Lamb will be the first wing off the bench (not counting Lin subbing in at SG) and PJ will still see some minutes behind him. There will be games where PJ gets more minutes when Lamb is playing poorly or PJ's defense is preferable. I'd feel comfortable with Daniels instead of PJ if our second unit bigs weren't so soft.
Kemba, Batum, MKG, Marv, Cody
Lin, Lamb, PJ, Frank, Al
I really hope that Frank starts by the time MKG returns, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen at all this year.

the thing you guys don't admit, or don't want to accept is that it MIGHT be possible that the cause of his injury has something to do with him being forced to work so hard on the D, to cover up the other players weaknesses. If thats true then when he returns, he might not be the same player he used to be. Just throwing that out there, don't shoot the messenger.

he will be fine. most of his injuries are small "hustle" injuries (diving on the ground, fighting for a rebound etc.)
besides that he has suffered some of the most random fluke injuries ever.
-Jeff Taylor (teammate) kneeing him in the head
-Jose Calderon smashing his hand in the backboard
if he could just change his play style a little he will probably be a lot more healthy. getting him some defensive help should help him out tho.

Honest question - do you know when and how he got injured in the first place?
And are you saying that more defensive oriented players are injured more often than offensive oriented players? Are you saying that players can't be defensive specialists without getting injured?

I did say "don't shoot the messenger". All Im trying to say, is that its possible his injuries are a result of over extending himself on the D, for far too long. If he played with a team who had better defenders, then maybe JUUST maybe, mkg wouldve lasted longer before busting his shoulder. Maybe his superhuman effort on the D has nothing to do with his injury, or maybe it does. Noone will ever know for sure.

i appreciate your optimism, I also try to hope for the best before accepting the negative view point. And YES, cliff or CHO needs to find someone who isn't a constant greenlight on the D

You do realize that the past 2 seasons before this one, the Bobcats/Hornets were among the best defensive teams in the league, with a bunch of defense first players like MKG, Biyombo, Henderson, Taylor and Zeller. MKG still got banged up those years with fluke injuries, that had nothing to do with covering for teammates. He played 12 minutes with this current group, so his injury in the preseason had absolutely nothing to do with covering for bad defenders.

We need to get MKG back asap, especially with everyone hurt. I need a reason to watch these games other then Kemba shooting 30 times and Frank doing cool stuff.

That's why I asked if you knew how he got hurt. He got hurt on a freak injury in the first quarter of our first preseason game. Had nothing to do with him extending himself on D for too long.
He's never played big minutes. Your theory is just wrong.

Just MHO, but he's focused more on fixing his shot than he has on building his body. His last injury was a freak slip, but I've long felt like with a bit more strength he would have been better off and injured less.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

His theory may not be remotely wrong. While it may not apply to this injury I do think his scrambling around to cover for others does put his body at a lot of risk on a regular basis. For us to be successful he plays with a reckless abandon to cover for teammates and puts his health on the line more than maybe he should.

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
MKG only plays at one speed, same as Gerald Wallace (excluding All-Star games). You can't ask MKG to not play ball to the wall. The injuries are certainly frustrating though. He definitely could get stronger to help protect his body. He's never going to stop flying around the floor, diving for loose ball, jumping into the crowd and trying to chase down every block possible.

The biggest reason why I've been kinda distant from this board as usual has been MKG's injury. I can't wait until he returns. I'm expecting it to be within a month from now either right before the all star break or right after.

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
I hope when MKG return that we use him as a PF as much as SF in small ball lineups that help us push the tempo and allow us to switch defensively. MKG will probably be our best rebounder other than probably Marv when he return.
