2016 Draft Talk

Post#1 » by Powder Blue » Wed Dec 9, 2015 4:44 am

http://www.tankathon.com

Eventually we can get into players but I at least wanted to get this up for pick tracking.

Current Pick Position: #6 (21% chance being top 3) and #15. Knicks at #11 so no swap

Not too bad but if we're going to be bad..we might as well be bad enough to get into the top 5 and maybe try to trade for another pick in the teens. Hell maybe with 3 first we can add at least one perimeter shooter.

Wow, first time I tried the Simulator on your link, DEN came up with the 1st pick...must be broken or something.

This draft appears to be 6-7 deep so we'll probably land another solid piece to our rebuild. Funny, the 76ers are tanking so hard they'll probably be in the top spot yet more times than not that spot doesn't get the top pick...I'd just be ecstatic with a top 3 pick !! Here's how I'd rank the top 7 picks (for the Nuggets)

1. Simmons
2. Ingram
3. Brown
4. Labissiere
5. Bender
6. Murray
7. Dunn/Rabb/Ellenson

There is also at least one more probable 1st, via HOU (most likely), POR (still a possibility if they make the playoffs) and MEM ( just 2 games beyond the 14th spot).

If we could get Simmons that would be amazing, hopefully the lottery falls in our favor. I'm not quite sold on labisierre or bender yet. I think furkan korkmaz is going to rise a lot this year on boards, and would fit perfectly next to Mudiay. I also like Timothe Luwawu, who's playing for the same club Jokic played on last year. I see Kawhi Leonard potential in him.

Either would be good with the HOU selection but not with our lottery pick

Yeah that's the pick I'm hoping we get one of the euro guys at, hopefully the lottery pick goes to Simmons or Ingram!

So IF we were to get Simmons or Ingram, does a Gallo or WC trade become more likely ??

I haven't seen that much of Simmons play but from what I have seen, I fee like he doesn't have the shot to play the 3 unless it is with a stretch 4. Am I wrong, does he have a decent shot from distance. The rest of his game makes me think he could end up being one of the most skilled power forwards we have seen in a really long time. If we somehow end up with him, we would have to surround him with shooting IMO. He and Mudiay playing together could lead to some amazing ball movement.

On the heels of this recent 6 game losing streak we are sitting tied with Minny for the 6th/7th pick. With Houston playing .500 ball as the 7th seed we would also receive the 16th pick. The Knick are 5 games up on us so that pick swap is not in play.

The Suns recent tank job has dropped them to the 4 pick and the Pelican are sitting at 5 not yet being able to get out of their funk.

I can still see a scenario where we get the 5th slot in the lottery giving us a decent shot at a top 3 pick.

Just wondering what positions other Nugget fans think will be the FO's target or BPA. I can see Harris and Barton manning the SG position, Mudiay and Nelson taking the PG (next years draft appears deep at PG for our backup), Gallo and WC are vets at SF, Nurkic and Jokic/Lauvergne ( depending on if Jokic can play next to The Predator) at Center, with some combination of Jokic/Faried and Arthur at PF. Personally, I'd like a SF (Ingram/Brown ?) at our lottery pick and a backup C (Jones/Stone/Zimmerman ?) at the HOU pick.

I personally look for them to take a SF and a PG in the next draft, unless something changes. I just cannot see them taking more bigs or another SG at this point.

I don't know. Our schedule has been brutal thus far. It's about to get much easier and we're finally starting to get healthy bodies back. There's zero chance we can out tank the Lakers, Sixers, Suns, or Nets. So unless the Knicks really start sinking, I think it's very unlikely we finish in the top 5 (errr... bottom 5?). We should have at least two first round picks though, maybe even three if Portland somehow sneaks in. Moving up will definitely be a possibility if there's someone TC really likes.

A dynamic scoring wing and a point guard are what we need. I'm not very familiar with the upcoming draft class outside of Simmons though.

Right now I'd like to see the Nuggets take Jamal Murray and develop him as a combo guard with Mudiay. It's still pretty early to determine who would help us but Murray is arguably the best shooter in this draft.

Hopefully we can get lucky and then use our pick, + the Hou and possibly Portland pick to move up to one or two. Simmons and Ingram look like they could be immediate impact players.

I doubt you are moving up to a top 2 pick from where our pick is likely to be with a pick in the late teens and a future 1st that is a 50/50 shot to turn into a couple of 2nd round picks.

Like RRFB said the schedule is much easier from here on out and with getting these guys back I do not see us dropping in the standings at all, and depending on injuries both on our team and the rest of the conference than I can see them moving up a couple of spots still.

I also do not see the Knicks staying where they are at, I can see them easily dropping a couple of teams if not more just in the next month as they have a brutal 5 weeks they are just starting. I look at that team as free ping pong balls, if they get lucky and hit on a top 3 pick it is ours, if they drop like a rock it will be great but I am not counting on it.

No bigs, need some backcourt/wing shooting....same thing we've needed for years.

Dempsey wrote a good article on the scouting dept of the Nuggets, well worth the read

Getting Joffrey and Jokic in the 2nd round in consecutive drafts is pretty damn impressive. TC has been great on draft night. I wonder if/when we'll see last years 2nd round pick, Nikola Radicevic.

Radicevic has a hip injury last and has not played this season from what I heard, although I have no idea how bad it really is or long term affects of the injuries. At best I would not expect to see him for at least another season.

We should look at Edin Atic in next years 2nd round. He is Bosnian, so you get Nurkic a friend, that can play SG really good, his only problem is his FT's...
I know this is not tough competition, but, it's 2nd round pick, what could go wrong?

From the outside looking in this time around, id say the nuggets would be best suited taking jaylen brown.
