I think Durant is a pipe dream. If anything, Durant signs a 1+1 back in OKC to max out more salary in 2017.. Lakers need to learn from the past 2 off seasons and realize that we absolutely CANNOT put all our eggs in one basket and tie up our cap by waiting weeks and weeks for a pipe dream superstar to finish his tour of meeting teams and disappearing to Aruba for a couple weeks to mull over his decision-- only to decide to return to his team or choose a team ready to win now.. All while, the smart teams are focusing on the remaining talent who they can actually get.. This is a must or die off season for lakers brass.. We cannot wait around and get Milwaukeed by other teams swooping in on the remaining talent.
DeRozan is very much an achievable get for us.. He's a great player, only 26 and can grow and fit in nicely with our young talent. We land Derozan then we will finally be in the running to land superstar free agents. How do you land a Durant, Westbrook, or Lebron type free agent?? You sign a player like Derozan on your team first to make it a better place to play.
Derozan would be a solid robin to A future Batman. We just got to come to terms that Batman isn't coming unless there's a Robin waiting for him. So let's get our Robin!

People who don't watch him regularly fail to realize how good Derozan is.
He's improved every facet of his game from one year to the next. Raptor fans used to scream about his D, and he's become a very capable defender. They cried about his passing and his efficiency ... and he's become an excellent passer and really cut down on the bad shots, and become more selective. He has been called a terrible outside shooter - but even that part of his game has improved dramatically.
Problem for LA is - he's not leaving Toronto.
He is happy in TO, loves playing with Kyle and as nice as it would be to "go home" he has a much better chance of making noise in the East with the Raps than trying to be part of a rebuild in west with the Lakers.

Zero to hero doesn't work, logistically speaking. This team has always gone from good to great, not from absolute trash to great. You kinda need that middle step.

This middle step would be the path to putting us on mediocre. Derozan surrounded by a bunch of young players won't make the playoffs in the West, must less be a consistent threat. Not to mention that we'd have to max him out for him to leave a great situation like the Raptors. Signing Derozan screams panic move, only to be disappointed down the road with the unfair expectations the team would have heaped on him.
