Sean Marks accepts GM Job

Post#1 » by Ror1997 » Mon Jan 25, 2016 8:34 am

Late night WojBomb (for us net fans atleast)

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--four-serious-candidates-emerge-for-nets--gm-job-074420156.html?soc_src=mail&soc_trk=ma

Woj lists Ferry, Conalgelo (who we know already) and Denver assistant GM Arturas Karnisovas and Houston vp of BBO Gersson Rosas.

I would probably like Karnisovas out of all four because of Denvers success and experience in scouting overseas talent

Karnisovas was a college star at Seton Hall University, and has polished a strong global basketball résumé that includes jobs in the NBA's league office, director of scouting with the Rockets' front office, and currently as assistant GM with the Nuggets. Karnisovas spent two years as USA Basketball's global basketball scout.

Working with Denver GM Tim Connelly, Karnisovas has had success with player personnel decisions involving overseas players, including the drafting of Jusuf Nurkic, Nikola Jokic, and Joffrey Lauvergne. Karnisovas played a part with selecting Emmanuel Mudiay and Gary Harris, too.

After Seton Hall, Karnisovas won two Olympic bronze medals (1992 and '96) for Lithuania and was chosen as FIBA's European Player of the Year in 1996. As a player, he reached the Euroleague Final Four three times.

In his 13th year with the Rockets, Rosas, a native of Bogota, Colombia, has been the franchise's Executive VP for five years and worked closely with GM Daryl Morey in remaking the roster and building a 2014-15 Western Conference finalist. Rosas played a prominent role in the Rockets' reshaping of the roster in the post-Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady era, when the franchise traded McGrady for multiple draft picks and built up the assets needed to acquire star James Harden via trade and lure Dwight Howard in free agency.

Rosas played a significant part in bringing Patrick Beverley from Europe as a free agent and drafting a future max-contract player, Chandler Parsons, with the 38th pick of the draft. During those years, Karnisovas was the Rockets' director of scouting.

Rosas has strong personal and working relationships with two potential coaching candidates, Jeff Van Gundy and Tom Thibodeau. Both coaches worked with Rosas in Houston.

Wow. This would mean so much for our (Lithuanian) basketball :-) Karnisovas was my favorite player when I was a child. I liked him more than Sabonis/Marciulionis/Jasikevicius/etc. He was a freaking stud - NBA starter caliber player. He finished his career at age 31 due to back problems if I remember correctly :(

Since then has carved out a nice career for himself in the NBA.

I wonder if pursuing Karnisovas would mean the Nets would try to make a move to pursue Sabonis' son in the draft. Karnisovas seems to have an eye for international bigs

Rosas + Thibs.

They have experience working together. They can work in concert: Rosas finding pieces that will play well under Thibs, fit the long-term vision for the franchise, and compliment each other.

He has experience finding talent that fit within our current constraints: Parsons - a 2nd round pick - which we might have this year if the Clippers can finish in the top 5, and brought in Beverly from overseas.

Well respected - time within successful franchises, was a finalist for the Spurs Asst GM position.

Agreed, anytime we see GM's connected to our top coaching prospects its good to hear. So seeing a Rosas + Thibs combo means we know they have history and can work together on one goal

All good choices tbh. It seems like the Nets are taking a more thought out and traditional approach to developing its front office which is definitely a more measured approach - very good news for a team that seems to be focusing on fostering sustainable success.

Ferry, Karnisovas and Rosas are all good options, actually I'd try to add all of them, one as GM, the other as head of scouting and another one as president of operations or head of statistics, offer them significant salary rises.
Colangelo maybe as a consultant, or something related to his connections, that is all that could be useful.

Whoever we pick, I seriously want them to suggest hiring David Blatt as our lead assistant. This guy's offensive philosophy is exactly what we need here.

I'm in favor of Rosas. He's deserving of it. Not too many candidates have been offered a job at San Antonio and Dallas. I would love to still hire Karnisovas as an assistant GM with control of European scouting.

I mean this is getting ahead of myself, but a perfect storm could be getting Rosas, Thibs in as coach (maybe POBO, as some reports suggests he wants a dual role), bring in Blatt as AC to run the offense

That seems like a system and structure that can be built around

Ferry should be out of consideration at this point.

yeah well as long as King is "advising" on the search then I think Ferry has a shot.

This is what I'd want too. Rosas has a solid reputation in the NBA, while having knowledge of global scouting, and he has worked under one of the forward thinking/best GMs in the league (Morey). Like you said, he has experience working with Thibs and this would make the job more appealing for Thibs.

So far out of what I've heard, Rosas as GM, and Thibs as HC is the best combination by far.

Like the youth and analytics of Rosas. Like the experience of Colangelo.

Don't know about karnisovas other than I liked him in college. Denver is a bit of a mess and I'm wondering if he's the reason why they are so Euro-centric with the draft and trades. Some have worked out but I still don't want a Euro bias. Plus who knows how much was him and how much was the actual GM.

Maybe he's worth the risk but he is that...a risk.
At least the Houston guy has been wanted by all the Texas teams.

No to Ferry.

Liking Thibs as the coach and not a fan of Blatt as HC. LBJ has tarnished his rep IMO. Assistant coach sure, but not HC.
